Design Inspiration

A great part of the new city centre buildings in Christchurch is the art that adorns them. The inspiration for this design comes from these artworks around us. The brightness of the new, recovering Christchurch, rebuilt stronger and brighter than before. ‘Mischievous Penguin’ has been visiting these artists and getting very hands on enjoying their art!.

Go to www.printmag.com to read Mirko Ilic's story about these images.

Images from the collection of Mirko Ilic.

I know it's called Variable Linanthus, but 9 petals? Geesh. Leptosiphon parviflorus.

The aim here was to try and get silhouettes of people walking from the Spiller's-Wharf stage to the Baltic stage, as I'd read about achieving these types of photos somewhere on the net and the position of the sun etc, but in this case i reckon the sun wasn't quite low enough. But not to worry, I'm quite happy with how it came out.

Out of about 20-25 photos from this position, this is the best i got and it took a lot of experimenting to get this as I'd forgotten some settings which were suggested to me. The photo, i believe, looks best in black and white.
