The inaugural Hawaii Fashion Month culminated with the revival Governor’s Fashion Awards. Hosted by the Hawaii Fashion Incubator (hifi) with support from the Hawaii State Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT), the awards were held at The Modern Honolulu, the official hotel partner of Hawaii Fashion Month.
The awards recognize Hawaii fashion’s past, present and future in more than a dozen award categories from retail and design to photography, beauty, styling and more. David “Pua” Rochlen, founder of Jams World, will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Hilo Hattie and Iolani Sportswear were also honored for their 50th and 60th anniversary.
The evening also featured a runway show produced by Ralph Malani capturing the evolution of Hawaii fashion from the colorful tropical prints and designs of the 50s through to the globally-inspired looks of today's local designers.
