52 Weeks of Pix 2014, Looking Down - I'm stuck at home with an ill child, so all plans of something more exciting look unlikely - although you never know what freedom tomorrow may bring!
7DOS, Week #34 - Ordinary Household Items, Technique Tuesday - bear with me, but the container is an ordinary household item in some parts of the world, I promise :-).

The story is that we found this demi john sitting abandoned, and looking rather forlorn, next to a skip on a dusty roadside when on holiday in Puglia (Italy) nearly 4 years ago. Demi johns are mostly used for storing wine, particularly on smaller farms where the wine produced is for personal consumption rather than sale. It had evidently been used quite a bit so it needed a good clean, but it is the perfect container for the many corks Mr Nomad and I have collected over 15 years of travels, dinners, barbecues, parties and smarter events. It's a truly democratic collection, including very high-end wines from Italy and bargains from the local supermarket; also, not every cork ends up in here and some are from friends who know we collect them, but there's a story connected to every single one.
Thank you in advance for any comments and/or favourites, which are always appreciated. I'm sorry I can't always reciprocate in kind over the coming weeks, but will try to when I can.
I'll also be posting images on my photography page on Facebook, which you can visit at www.facebook.com/LyndaHPhotography

Humble me Lord
I'm on me knees empty
Please, please, please forgive me "

I've loved this song since the first time I heard it. I'm not all that religious, but I "get it". Fifteen years ago, I was halfway homeless, hopeless, helpless, and perhaps even a little hateful. It took quite awhile to find my way to health and happiness. Some days are still better than others. Hold on to the hard lessons learned from such times.
Shirley Ann Nord was born June 27, 1944, in Jordan, Minnesota to Clarence and Eloise (Logeson) Loken. She attended school in Jordan, MN. In 1971, she was united in marriage to Rick Nord and they resided in Northfield where Shirley and Rick owned a custom combining business, one of Shirley’s favorite duties were to keep the men well fed with her homemade cooking. During this time, Shirley worked at Fairway Foods and on the weekends she took her lunch wagons to auctions in the surrounding area. Shirley’s true passion was cooking and serving others. During her life she had the opportunity to own her own restaurant’s over the years. She owned and operated Castle Gardens Restaurant during her marriage with Rick, the Black Knight Restaurant in Reading, Minnesota, and Shirley’s Restaurant in New Richland. During another season of life Shirley worked for the Faribault State Hospital in the laundry unit for many years.
Shirley was faithful in using the gifts she was giving from our father above, and that was her homemade cooking and being service oriented. You would find Shirley either feeding the old so they can stay home and endure the best quality of life, teaching an old dear friend or a new found friendship how to cook or you would just find yourself with the privilege with an invitation to an evening of entertainment for a home cooked meal along with great company and laughter.
Sitting idle was never an interest for Shirley even after retirement she became a private cook to a local farming family. Shirley was always committed to her family, friendships and her hard work ethic.
She was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in April 2016, but Shirley never wavered, she was courageous, continued to have strength and not give up, hope by enduring and accepting the gift God will grant by either prolonging her life here on earth with her family and friends, or to be brought to her next journey with Christ. Shirley’s faith continued to grow and she was so ready to meet her Father in Heaven. Shirley passed away peacefully on Monday, November 7, 2016, at the Northfield Hospital with her immediate family by her side, holding hands and in prayer encouraging Shirley to go home to Jesus. The family promised to carry her torch and the great responsibility and love she had for her family being the “glue”.
Shirley is survived by two daughters Jody (Cory) Ulrich of Dodge Center, Julie (Tony) Malecha of Northfield, seven grandchildren Amber Kreidemacher, Megan Bongers, Hanna Jo Bongers, Zachary Bongers, Dylan Stadler, Jana Kreatz, Cory Ulrich and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Eloise, her stepfather Kenneth (Andy) Anderson, a grandson Jake Tyler Malecha and two brothers Vernon and Lonnie Loken.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, beginning at 11 am at Rejoice Church with Pastor Zach Thompson officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, November 14 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Bierman Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will be at Prairie Creek Cemetery rural Northfield. Followed by lunch at the VFW.
As a child my parents used to take us to Castle Gardens Restaurant. It was a real treat and we didnt do it very often. I dont remember ever seeing Shirley but I always remember the food being spectacular. May she rest in Peace.
Note: Castle Gardens Restaurant used to have Frog Legs on the menu. I will tell the story of my sister and her frog leg experience some other time
Never succumb to apathy

Everyone has a story... A happy story, a sad one, a funny one, a dramatic one, love story, depressing story, stories about hate, stories about breaking up, unforgettable stories, stories that changed our lives, stories that we make, stories that just happens, some stories we don't want to have, some stories we want to cherish, stories that open our eyes, stories that make us cry, stories about stories, EVERYONE has a story...
I actually have a story but I think this is not the right time to tell it.. maybe at Day 200.. It's a story why I got into photography, and why writing this right now, and why I am feeling like this, why I can't sleep at night and need to drink meds just to get me to sleep, why I sometimes have mood swings.. but that story is to be continued..
and yeah.. I don't really write well.. so bear with me..
You? What's your story?

Whenever I travel, I love to meet people and hear their stories about their experiences, their lives, their journeys. When I go on road trips, I always wonder what peoples lives are like in the little houses and farms we pass in far away remote places. I would love to be able to stop and talk to them.
In this shot, I was in the little town of Lindos on the island of Rodos in Greece. I was up in the hills by myself when this guy came by on a donkey and with another in tow. We talked for a while and he asked if I wanted a ride back into town. This shot was taken from the saddle of a donkey.
He was a sailor traveling the globe for close to 40 years and then started having serious heart problems. His doctor told him he needed to find a new profession with with significantly less stress. He ended up moving back to the city of his youth and became a donkey tour guide. The structure to the right is a school and is actually where he went to school as a child. There were children running and playing as we ventured by. His heart problems have improved significantly. I really enjoyed my time with him.
Everyone has a story.
These guys were passing the time in the parking lot arm wrestling. They are both friends & from Honduras.

This is absolutely true, and so many people out there don't realize it until they have been left all alone. #appreciatewhatyouhavebeforeitsgone #donttakepeopleforgranted #everyonehasastory #wisewords #relationships #relationshipquote #friendship #friendshipquotes #quotes #instaquote #truth #storyofmylife #choices #gowheretheloveis #honest #heartonmysleeve #loyalty #lifequote #life #lifegoeson #lifelesson #lonelyheartsclub #keepingitreal #nobsinmylife #nobobyisperfect #moveforward #flaws #raremomentsinlife - danni874
