Gah - really stressful afternoon - glad to be home at last.
More slinky fun - this time with the Lumix. The flash created some interesting shadows.

34/52 weeks for dogs
Harry loves to jump into a little dirty pond in the garden of my mother in law. I think mud ist healthy so I let him have the fun !
We will stay here one more week then we start our trip to Scotland.
Say the word "evergreen" and I think of the firs, hemlocks and spruce trees of the Pacific Northwest. These trees grow extensively on the westside of the Cascade Mountains.
Now, if I ask myself what makes the forests here so green - water, lots of water comes to mind. And it's not just the trees that are green west of the Cascades. Pretty much any thing that doesn't move and doesn't see much sun light turns to green. Like these mossy rocks which can't move and won't likely escape the water.
This is Mom, scooting out of the nest as soon as she heard a couple of us walking nearby. As quickly as anyone approaches the birdhouse, both Mom & Dad head off in opposite directions until any perceived "threat" is gone.
Then they make their way back via several poles and fence posts - landing on each one to check out the situation before moving closer, and finally, back into the nest. Unlike eagles, just the female bluebird sits on the eggs but the male is always nearby. A team of devoted parents. :)

2020 has been my best ever year for foxes and this is one of my favourite photos of the year.
I had photographed this huge dog fox at a distance but this was the only time I had him come this close. He was feeding well grown cubs so was forced to hunt during the day.
I watched him for several minutes as he slowly made his way towards me with just the tips of his ears showing above the long grass. When he was in the perfect position I gave a tiny squeak between my teeth and he stopped an lifted his head a few inches.
I toggled the single focus point onto his eye through the gap in the grass and took a single shot, then he slowly disappeared into the hedge and that was the last I saw of him.
We followed this train the CHEXT from Garnett and while we had sunny skies when we started by the time they cut out the helpers at Ice Deck siding there was quite the storm brewing. Fortunately the sun low in the sky illuminated it all very nicely. One of the darkest storms I ever witnessed.
Now more than ever we have to be grateful for the little moments and big moments when the world is losing so much. I love being up here it makes me forget everything except for what is presented before my very eyes.

Living 10 minutes away from the top of Te Mata Peak, I come here often. The main, structural elements of the view from the peak are always the same. However, the time of day, the season and atmospheric conditions always make it a unique experience. On top of that, my mood when editing the photo also has a lot of influence on the final image.

Looking Close... on Friday: Plush Toys
It has been four weeks without my little Pixie, and I am still in shock and devastated and hurt, and I miss him so terribly. He was such a special little cat, playful, naughty at times, sensitive, so intelligent, so loving, and we truly had a fusional relationship. It was so unfair that his little life was cut short so early, although I take comfort in the fact that he was loved, and that he brought so many smiles and so much love.
You will forever be in my heart, my little angel. ♥

'Cause I'd never treat me this shitty
You made me hate this city
And I don't talk shit about you on the internet
Never told anyone anything bad
'Cause that shit's embarrassing, you were my everything
And all that you did was make me fucking sad
So don't waste the time I don't have
And don't try to make me feel bad
I could talk about every time that you showed up on time
But I'd have an empty line 'cause you never did
Never paid any mind to my mother or friends
So I shut 'em all out for you 'cause I was a kid
You ruined everything good
Always said you were misunderstood
Made all my moments your own
Just fucking leave me alone
This is why I keep a camera with a long lens handy when I’m on the fells, because in beautiful places beautiful things happen. For the record and for anyone who read my tongue in cheek narrative I wrote to accompany my last post, this photo was taken last Thursday with my Fujifilm xt5 and xf70-300mm f4-5.6 just so you fan boys/girls out there can give an hooray to Fujifilm.
Anyone else done with this heat? Cause I am!

Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni) female breeding Spain_4106
An elegant little falcon, often seen in groups. Males are unspotted above with a blue-grey head and similarly-coloured patches on the upper-wings; also note largely pale underwings.
Females like this one, have an indistinct moustache and slightly paler cheek, but are otherwise very similar to Eurasian Kestrel. Shape very similar to Eurasian Kestrel but tail slightly shorter and central tail feathers can project slightly. Wings are more rounded and shorter than those of Eurasian Kestrel.
Hovers frequently and catches insects on the wing over open terrain. Breeds in noisy colonies on buildings and cliffs.
