Who doesn't want to feel like royalty on their wedding day! And the best hue to accentuate royalty is a purple.
Here's a little history on the color purple, and why it's simply known as the symbol for "nobility." Back in the medieval times, blue dyes (red + blue pigments when mixed, produced purple) were so expensive that only the wealthy, or the aristocracy could afford it. Naturally over time, the deep-bluish purple became the wardrobe color of Kings, and is often known as "royal purple". Not only is the purple hue associated with royalty, but damask and brocade silk prints were common, too, in the aristocratic wardrobe due to its high production costs.
So for this wedding inspiration board, I had to pair the royal purple shade with the ornate, but sophisticated print. Inspired by the damask pillow design with its varying shades of purple, I knew the event colors had to be black, royal purple, and the secondary accent colors to be lavender and a light silver grey. I could definitely see the damask pillow in a modern, white seated lounge area for the cocktail hour and post-dinner celebration. For the tablescape, it will be a combination of pewter-like drinking vessels, crystals, white silver-rimmed plates, silver chargers & candelabras, black/white damask votives, bunches of purple hydrangeas & irises, and all set on white runners and black linens.
And other great embellishments to make yourselves feel like true royalty: how about a customized monogrammed aisle runner, empty oval baroque frames to get your cameo portraits shot by the photographer, and invest in good lighting to set off the whole environment.

I had an itch for a summer, emerald green color palette after I saw the Carolina Herrera's white gown called "Constance". The dramatic, wavy ruffles on the dress reminded me of the Peony's chunky white petals (on the second board, lower-right corner). Then I saw the dark green stem against the white Peony and came up with the perfect color combo – green, white and a soft grey. It's a nice combination for a spring wedding – fresh, crisp and clean.
I always love a nice, tailored grey suit with a nice tie, like the one above in green for the groom and his groomsmen. And for the reception table decor, only use fresh live plants like green grass, moss, herbs and even live plant terrariums.

Here are some of her key descriptor words from my client before I created this moodboard: elegant, antique, history, cream and black as the main colors. Of course, I had to throw some color in there and suggested an emerald green. It just felt right for the mood she was going for, and it will add that modern feel to the overall look. Also, I want her wedding to have a little more edge and playful twist to the European, Victorian era that she seeks.
Final color palette: an off-white hue, antiqued gold, emerald green and black.
The bold black & white classic hues are accented with green and touches of vintage gold. The Victorian flair is brought in with the traditional cameos that I plan to customize to her profile silhouette and her fiance's, too. And I felt the need to add antiqued gold & black frames in various sizes to bring out that sense of history. Whether the table numbers are framed, or a cluster of portraits of the bride, groom and old family photos are displayed somewhere in the reception venue. There are soo many fun applications that they can be used for; especially for photography.
When I say I want to the give the bride "a little more edge" to her wedding day, I mean to modernize it from where she wants which may come off a bit dated based on her original key words. And I plan on doing it with a custom, green pattern with a tailored European feel, and I would like to contrast it with another graphic pattern – black & white stripes. However, these patterns won't exist everywhere in the decor; it will be used thoughtfully & selectively throughout her wedding and reception. It's those extra little accents that will give it that personal, tailored, classic appeal with a twist to the European Era.
Invitation design: custom black cameo portraits, incorporate traditional scroll flourish designs, custom green pattern on thick, uncoated paper, letterpress, and a black envelope with a personalized wax seal
Apparel/Accessories: bride in off-white, bridesmaids in black cocktail length dresses and accented in gold antiqued jewelry, the groom & groomsmen in black, or grey suits with black & white striped bow ties/or a tie
Floral selection: white anemones with their bold-dark center and white roses
Table decor/seating: a mix of black and antiqued vases with white florals, candlesticks and eclectic frames on black table linens, gold chiavari chairs, white plates with gold chargers
Guest favor boxes: black boxes accented with a green ribbon, and a sticker seal of the cameo portraits of the bride & groom

Colors: Dark Blue, Turquoise, Green, Cyan + White
I had a good friend come to me recently asking for ideas and how to pull several ideas and elements together for an October 10, 2010 wedding. It's quite a popular wedding date since the date exactly translates to 10/10/10. I am currently working on another wedding invitation for the same date.
Here were some mandatories for this particular mood board:
- the roman numeral "X" symbolic of 10/10/10
- nontraditional wedding, no formal church
- some incorporation of Irish traditions
- early afternoon wedding
- reception is a non-sit down (cocktails & hors d'oeuvres)
- some key descriptor words: edgy, modern & Irish influences
And here's what I was able to pull together and push the concept to be visually stronger. I took the roman symbol "X" representing 10/10/10 and merged it with a traditional Irish, Celtic design and created a very unique & bold icon along with a textile Celtic-like pattern that can be incorporated into the branding of their wedding day elements (e.g., wedding invitations, napkins and/or "X" drink menu).
In Irish culture, I just learned that the bride wears a baby blue colored wedding dress which I think is really pretty. However with the wedding & reception already being not-so traditional, I thought it would be fun to push the color palette further once I saw this stunning Laila silk chiffon strapless dress on Bluefly.com. And as soon as I saw this dress, it inspired the color palette for the rest of the wedding with deep blues, turquoise, light blue and the traditional Irish green. Since the reception is like a cocktail hour, I thought the short cocktail dresses for the bridesmaid would complement the bride's dress and be perfect for the festive evening.
Though this is a modern, nontraditional wedding, I still wanted to have some rustic, earthy elements to represent the Irish culture beyond the Celtic motif. A collection of small vintage and eclectic vases from glass to brass materials holding lovely, simplistic arrangements of white & green plants are a nice budget-friendly touch to a cocktail happy hour. Also, what is missing on this mood board that I forgot to add are chunky white pillar candle arrangements to bring warmth to this cool, October evening reception. And it's definitely not Irish unless there are few Guinness glasses with clovers in it.

What inspired me to produce this specific look and feel came from a set of J.Crew necklaces. It's featured in the 2nd board on the black sweep. Like usual, I fall in love with jewelry; but this time it was for the layered baguette crystal and pearl strands.
The style and mood that seemed to emanate from the necklace was something romantic, modern & European. For the color palette, I went with classical, soft pinkish hues to soften the strong black and white tones. Delicate fabrics like the lace featured on the Vera Wang bridal gown below certainly plays up the romance factor. The bedroom, to the right, totally complements the mood that I am going for.
The perfect flowers to accompany this decor are the white & pink anemones. The soft, frilly petals contrast its dark, graphic center. If you want some matching glitz for the reception tables, check out some of ZGallerie's tabletop accessories like the jeweled tealight holder seen below.

Colors: Poppy Red, Orange + Mandarin Yellow
An intense burst of oranges + reds in this inspiration board. I was inspired by Reem Acra's silk floral gown from the 2010 spring season. This particular wedding I see it set in a spring garden setting. An effortless, beautiful bride with her hair gathered into an easy pony tail with a red-orange poppy flower accent. Fun, matching colored flats for the bride and her bridesmaids in stylish cocktail-length dresses. The groom and groomsmen in beige cotton suits with coordinating bow or skinny ties.
A simple, but delish menu of spring greens, caprese salad, pasta and warm baked bread. And it is accompanied with refreshing drinks like fresh squeezed lemonade, Italian sodas and theme-colored cocktails. :) As for decor, glowing paper lanterns that blow in the night breeze, twinkle lights wrapped around the local trees, and sunburst orange flowers contrasted against clean white, crisp linens.

Colors: Pinks, Aqua + White
After I saw this image of a bed of pink roses floating on a cool, blue watery haze, I just had to pull together an inspiration board to reflect it.
These shades of soft pinks and a wash of soft blues is perfect for the fun, flirty girl who loves her roses. The rose petal color and texture can be seen throughout the table decor, and it's even carried thru to the bridal gown and accessories. Even have the food reflect this theme. How about a rosey whipped frosting over a bed of vanilla bean cupcakes – Yum!

Colors: Peridot, White, Brown + Black
Spring is around the corner, and I can't wait for that first hint of green to bloom on branches and for the grass to peak though the ground. And it's getting close to wedding season, too! Here's a great color palette to pay tribute to a spring wedding that is fresh, rustic, and with an edge of modernity.
The lively color of Peridot goes great with the earthy brown, and then I wanted to add a bit of sophistication through black and white accents to add elegance to the overall setting. Use unconventional ingredients for the decor and table setting – mossy arrangements, dogwood branches with white blooms, black lacquered manzanita branches and an eclectic mix of large white vases. For florals – green mums and soft, white florals like peonies and tulips. And how about a hand drawn invitation design showcasing a flower which sets the mood of feel of your overall wedding with calligraphic and traditional fonts.

I call this inspiration board a Modern, Vintage Mexico, because I have elements of old traditions such as the lace on her veil, the church, the vintage map, gold jewelry, silver table decor and the use of old-world typography. The modern aspect comes from the use of nontraditional things for the wedding decor. I am embracing local plants to Mexico like succulents that can be used in the bridal bouquet, boutonniere, table centerpieces and on the wedding cake too. And throughout the board, you can see that "modern pop of color", the deep plum, as an accent color – in her bouquet with the orchids, her oh-so-chic pumps, and hints of it in individual succulent plants.

Colors: Green, White + Gray

Colors: Shades of Blue + Turquoise
This wedding inspiration board was inspired by Pantone's 2010 color of the year – Turquoise.
If you can't have a destination wedding on the beach with the ocean as your gorgeous backdrop, bring the ocean to you. Be bold! and wash everything in shades of the ocean for your wedding and reception. Surround your whole reception venue with strong, accessory lighting to create the effect that you are surrounded by the cool, ocean water.
I have the perfect wedding invitation design that will go perfectly with the look of this mood board. I am envisioning a very artistic treatment of waves, very graphic, on the cover, and the initials of the bride and groom are perfectly embedded into the design. If you like what you see and hear, email me for custom invitation designs. I am here to help in anyway to make your day come to life.

Moodboard created for my 11.11.11 wedding client.
Main Colors: Mocha + Golds
Accent Colors for Contrast/Pop: Cranberry Red + Orange Marigolds
Texture + Interest: Rustic sophistication, embracing nature elements, but richen them with warm, bold hues in florals + textural linens, allow for drama by creating height and dimension with flowing, suspended forms like red Amaranthus floral and structural branches like Manzanita or Curly Willow for the centerpieces. And to top all these visual layers off, add some glitz with jeweled, crystal chains for embellishment.
Invitation: Incorporate nature elements, wedding color palette, wedding date - 11.11.11, the Letter "H" and the glitz will come through with the pearlescent paper stock.

Colors: Yellow, Blue, White + Pale Golds
Being a June wedding, it had to be a sunny, intense yellow and the blue hue of the sky to be the visual focus. The best words to describe the feeling are Classic, Rustic and simply Fun.
The traditional white, lace, and the bronze/gold hues represents Classiness. The Rustic appeal comes through with natural, outdoor elements – the twig branch, bird and grey tones. And what makes it Fun is the untraditional use of these intense, summer colors of yellow and cyan together. No pink hues here.

Colors: Red, Violets, Green, Turquoise + Orange
Inspired by the Fall season. This moodboard is also influenced by Indian textiles, details and color. The two subjects just visually meshed so well together that I wanted to entwine them.
The main dominant colors are the reds & violets, and they are nicely accented by hints of purple, green, turquoise & orange. For the table details, I love the hodgepodge feel of different sized vases and materials. It gives it a more casual, family-style table setting and not so perfect & rigid. There is an overall warmth that exudes from these boards even though there is so much visually going on. Have fun with all the little details from the table numbers to other little accessories to adorn. It's all in the details!

BRIEF Create a tent installation that continues the warmth and humour of the 2011 event
WHY To create a talking point at the festival and attract new readers
WHERE Hay Festival of Literature & Arts, Hay-on-Wye, Wales
WHO Intellectual types, bookworms, fashionistas and comedians
WHAT WE DID Created a space where words & stories came to life: a reception desk with 'T' logo made of rolled up Telegraphs, hand printed wallpaper, interactive printing press, hand painted mural, writer's block
WHAT THEY ATE Food cooked by celebrity chef Xanthe Clay, branded cake pops served in wellies
WHAT THEY THOUGHT "The tent has been a roaring success as was the party. But most importantly I wanted to say that Rowena & Amy have been absolute legends - I literally couldn't have managed the last couple of weeks without them. They've worked so hard and gone beyond the call of duty about a million times in the torrential wind and rain."
