Self-Evaluation

I feel that the project went well in general. The space provided plenty of angles and content to capture that were interesting and created a flow. The theme for the set was taken from my family’s Irish roots and humble beginnings. A barn that stood for generations, now gone, still breathes life today as a garden. Taking the old barn frame and turning it into a garden shows how the space “land” can be reused to provide growth and life. The use of the flag as the emerald ward watching over the land, provides the rest of the set meaning. The entire set has focus on green, playing a symbolic role to the “emerald garden”, with the framing and other content providing the rustic feel and creating a simpler sense of depth.

In the set, the rule of thirds, lighting, depth and framing are used in the composition of the photos. The only photo that should be re-shot is the flag. Compared to the rest of the set, the lighting is off but I felt that the flag tied what I was trying to convey and chose to use the best image of the flag.

In conclusion, I feel that I did well in the project, yet there is room for improvement. The set is taken to show the flag “Emerald Eyes” watching down upon an important tradition within my family and to ensure that the green is always alive and thriving. Showing the beauty of the emerald scene and what my family had been doing for generations brings joy to myself and my heritage.
