The Library Ets Haim, also called Livraria Montezinos, which is both a museum and a library, is part of the specialized educational and research institute of the Portuguese-Jewish Seminary Ets Haim (Tree of Life). (עץ חיים)

The library collections contain 30,000 printed works (from 1484 to the present day) and 500 manuscripts (from 1282 to the twentieth century). The specialization and theme focus mainly on the humanities: all aspects of Jewish studies and cultural history, and, in line with the humanist ideals of Northern Europe, the collections also reflect the universality of the human spirit, science and skills.

The collections are maintained at the Portuguese Synagogue complex in Amsterdam - one of the one hundred most important Dutch monuments - where they have been since the complex was built in 1675.

The library was added to UNESCO's Memory of the World Register in 2003.

Bibliotheek Ets Haim bezit een grote en rijke collectie op het gebied van het 17e- en 18e-eeuwse jodendom en maakt al bijna 400 jaar onderdeel uit van het Amsterdamse culturele erfgoed. De collectie bestaat uit circa 560 handschriften (van 1282 tot de 19e eeuw) en circa 30.000 gedrukte werken in meer dan 20 talen, waarvan Hebreeuws (met ongeveer 50% van de titels) de belangrijkste is.

Ets Haim is de oudste nog functionerende joodse bibliotheek ter wereld. De bibliotheek is in 1616 opgericht en bevindt zich sinds 1675 op de huidige locatie in het prachtige complex van de Portugese Synagoge in Amsterdam. Sinds David Montezinos, de toenmalige bibliothecaris, in 1889 zijn persoonlijke verzameling handschriften, boeken en grafieken aan de bibliotheek schonk, luidt de naam Bibliotheek Ets Haim – Livraria Montezinos.

In 2003 werd de collectie van Bibliotheek Ets Haim - Livraria Montezinos op de UNESCO-lijst van het Geheugen van de Wereld geplaatst.

The Magical Barataria Preserve

10 miles outside of New Orleans sits the 20,000+ acre Barataria Preserve. It's an important home to over 200 species of birds.

This is an oddly processed view into the cypress-tupelo swamp region.
