This is a PCI/miniPCI-to-Ethernet LAN Controller made by ADMtek in 2001.
There are inscriptions in all four corners of the chip.
This is a composite of 117 images taken by a pixel 2XL from a microscope at 100X. The images had 65% overlap and were stitched together in Autopano Giga.
For high-density, high-performance wiring closet functions, the 5698TFD offers 96 ports of 10/100/1000—including six in a combo configuration with 100/1000BASE-X SFP ports and two 10GBASE-X XFP ports. This top-of-the-line switch offers significant advantages in pricing and power consumption. As with all 5600 models, it features field-replaceable power supplies for enhanced resiliency.

Allwinner H3, 40x40mm, 512MB DDR3 RAM, 2xUSB, 100Mbps Ethernet. The packaging was wet for some reason.
My new computer desk at home. I love it. Notice the lack of cords below the desk (except keyboard and mouse cords). My DSL/ethernet/wireless, and USB hub are all mounted underneath the desk in back, keeping things nice and clean. I also have a basket/tray in back to hold all of the cords. The monitor stand is actually at the back of the desk thanks to a monitor arm, giving me tons of desk space back.

This works together with our HomePlug 85Mbps adapters to link all the network stuff upstairs with the ADSL router. The switch is an ultra-cheap one (and there's another connected to the router), but they've not given me any problems so far.
And if you think these cables look a bit messy, a glance underneath the desk would give you a seizure - maybe it's time I tidied up down there...
This hotel is new enough that it has actual ethernet and CAT5, no need to run LRE or anything like that. The internet connection is from a seperate plate on the wall. I guess they want to be ready for TV over ethernet or something.
Dipping my toe back into flickr and shooting pictures again.
Playing with my little EOS-M and extension tubes. This is the end of an ethernet cable.
This is a Gigabit Ethernet Controller made by Realtek. The package had 48 pins.
Midway between the middle of the die on the right hand vertical side "PL2A" as well as some other illegible text is inscribed.
I used the ring light for this shot, as well as Autopano Giga for stitching. Autopano is much more picky about the input images than Microsoft Image composite editor (ICE), but it produces much higher quality results. Unfortunately I must use ICE in structured panorama mode for any chip with large areas of repeating patterns, since they confuse Autopano.
