I am a real-life Aesthetician and am currently working on getting accepted into medical school in the hopes of becoming a Dermatologist someday. So, needless to say, skincare is my passion!

Our skin tells us so much about our health; like if we're getting enough hydration, sleep, too much or too little sun, etc. It can even tell us about our intolerances and gut health! I know a lot of people forget about their skin, thinking it's just "there" and that people who obsess about their skin are superficial, but remember... your skin is the biggest organ of your body and is the first line of defense to bacteria, viruses, and toxins!

So, if you're having skin issues, I am your girl! I will analyze your skin through a series of questions, or pictures (if you feel comfortable with that) and provide care recommendations. I have extensive knowledge of over 20 product lines including, Obagi, Farmacy, Elemis, Byroe, The Ordinary, Glow Recipe and so many more!

Book a consultation with me and let me guide you onto the path of beautiful and radiant skin! My IW Name: BijouNoirr

*If you are under the care of a dermatologist for an auto-immune skin disorder like psoriasis, scleroderma, dermatomyositis, etc. I cannot provide care recommendations as that is above my knowledge and qualification! Come back and see me in 6 years or so, :) .*

This gorgeous red covertible marks the spot in this beautiful flowering garden!

This is what I do for a living-a professional hi-def makeup artist & esthetician. This is my favorite makeup EVER! (we won 1st place in the Tiffany Awards competition of evening style!) Sad to say, this shot was not taken by me. Special thanks to Dino Mangano for the awesome photos & April Templin for the incredible hair! EHM-this one's for you!

31 October 2020: Update on The Corona Pandemic – To ensure that our healthcare system does not collapse Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, in concert with the regional governments, announced yesterday evening strict lockdown measures. The measures that were positioned as our last chance to avoid an unprecedented tragedy will become effective on Sunday night, and will remain in force until 13 December. In summary, we are no longer allowed to receive visitors at home, with the exception of one “cuddle contact”. Outdoor gatherings are limited to a maximum of four people. Non-essential shops will be closed and non-medical professions requiring close contact (i.e. hairdressers, estheticians, etc.) will be shut down. Schools will remain closed until 15 November and teleworking will be made mandatory. In contrast to the lockdown earlier this year we are still allowed to take the car to go for a walk somewhere in a forest, 30 km from where we live as long as we do it safely. We are in lockdown, but the good news is that we can still go for a walk, we can meet some people if everyone wears a mask, keeps their distance and stays outside, we even can go fishing if we want...:-) The measures imposed are not going to make life easy, but they are definitely necessary. Let’s hope that we start seeing the impact of our efforts in the weeks to come. Stay Safe, Stay Healthy! – Damme, Belgium

Today's story and sketch by me, #1364, would be a fabulous funny tale, it it wasn't actually such a tragedy. The confused pedestrian you see under the banana palm, just arrived through a dimension portal, that opened as a swirling Blue Cloud and spit out the Elf known as Arni. His tragic adventure started two days ago in Keebler Oklahoma, Arni was going to star in a cookie infomercial, but just as he walked into the makeup trailer, he the make up artist and company Esthetician, a professional lady who uses steamy hot wax to brush on unwanted hair, let's it cool then rips it off removing all hair a bit of flesh, usually a with a bit of screaming. Elves are known to have gnarly facial, and back hair, which doesn't look attractive in close ups. Just as Arni walked into the trailer, it was swallowed in a Big Blue Dimension Twister. Arni was spit out where you see him, on this Tropical Volcanic Planet we call Budahunga, what happened to the makeup trailer, the makeup lady, and Esthetician, will have to be a story for another time, until then Tata the Rod Blog.

my roommate lloyd is a skincare esthetician. this is how i see him.

Today's story and sketch "by me", as I sit at my man cave drawing table pondering the terribly bad decision I made this morning going after the Space Monkeys that had escaped from the maximum security prison on the Planet Feridoo. Rescue Randy was on Mars with his Brazilian Esthetician girlfriend Jordan, who is removing massive amounts of Randy's excess body hair, a condition he's developed after his latest reconstruction by the Medical Staff at UCSB, they used way to much crash test dummy testosterone, a story that was covered in a previous tale. And the go to guy when the Earth really needs a professional Bounty Hunter it's JB, but this week JB is chaperoning a group of swim suit models at the Lake Havasu Miss Cosmos Beauty Pageant, which will be a story for another time. As you can see I have traveled through the space time continuum dimension Stargate in the back of the man cave, and traveled here just North of Santa Barbara, and located with the help of the space convict tracker chip, one of the escaped Space Monkeys, he seems to be terrorizing a family of squatters camping near the Nojoqui Falls Park near Solvang. And just seconds before I made eye contact with the beast, I see JB over my right shoulder, And am I relieved he received my urgent help message just in time, as the beast jumps off the roof of the squatters RV, and sprints off in a dead run, I will return to the man cave and leave the capture and half million dollar reward to Bounty Hunter JB. Be sure to look for the latest news and Space Monkeys update on this blog, until then taa ta the Rod Blog.

Today's story and sketch "by me" is a tail I didn't think I would be reliving so soon, last night was like a flashback from a couple of weeks ago. Around midnight the interdimension stargate incoming buzzer began buzzing, but the buzz was very quickly dround out by a loud howling that could only be made by one creature in the Galaxy, a howling Malumutt came through the Stargate into the man cave. Pat and I hurried in and found the Martian Malumutt named Jumbo had returned and quickly had it's paws on Pat's shoulders licking her face. After calming Jumbo down, the beast consumed half a dozen moon pies and a half gallon of milk, Pat read the note on its collar, which read could Pat please look after Jumbo during a possible attempt to overthrow the Flhem Galaxies government, that required all available Intergalactic Space Force personnel to Bivouac at the unprotected temporary facilities on the Flhem's orange moon, a mission that didn't require Jumbo the Galaxies best tracker, but a story that will have to be continued at another time. Above you see Pat myself and Jumbo in one of my favorite older Space Gliders a B&R Silver Streak, who you don't see is Rescue Randy the most interesting living tissue crash test dummy in the Cosmos, he's laying in the back of the glider with a growth of hair of his own thicker than Jumbo's, which is the reason he is not on the Flhem mission, because of fast growing hair that's has been a problem for Randy sense the medical team at "UCSB" over dosed him with crash test dummy Testosterone during his last reconstruction. You can see we are traveling through dimension "BDI-732 home of spirit tree Doug and his Bat with no name, and it looks like Doug is being visited by tourists. As we fly over on our way to Mars to meet up with Randy's Esthetician girlfriend Jordan, she's the only girlfriend who's an expert removing carpet thick hair with a European Wax treatment, until next time taa ta the Rod Blog ps: after many requests Randy is still refusing to be sketched in his Furry condition.

My friend Susy poses with a Ponderosa pine. Isn't she lovely? Susy is an esthetician and a personal gardener. She takes excellent care of herself and remains virtually ageless. I love her cool bohemian lifestyle and style of dressing.

On 24 April 2020, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp allowed gyms, fitness centers, bowling alleys, body art studios, barbers, cosmetologists, hair designers, nail care artists, estheticians, and massage therapists, among others to re-open, with theaters and dine-in restaurants to follow on 27 April. In March, Kemp had closed or curtailed operations of 'nonessential' business in Georgia for coronavirus concerns. Now, he has re-opened them even as deaths in Georgia from the disease have passed 900 and continue to rise.

Georgia Governor Bryan Kemp begins to rescind his statewide stay-at-home order instituted to contain the coronavirus, even as the statewide death toll rises.

20 April 2020.

***************

▶ “Gov. Brian Kemp took the first step Monday to reopen a Georgia economy battered by social restrictions to contain the coronavirus [...] allowing certain businesses — gyms, fitness centers, bowling alleys, body art studios, barbers, cosmetologists, hair designers, nail care artists, estheticians, their respective schools & massage therapists, among others to open their doors on Friday [24 April 2020].

Kemp also announced that theaters and dine-in restaurants will be allowed to reopen on April 27. [Bars, nightclubs, operators of amusement park rides, and live performance venues will remain closed.] However, a statewide shelter-at-home order remains in effect through the end of the month.

Under the emergency powers granted him by the General Assembly, Kemp said the easing of business restrictions would be uniform statewide 'and will be the operational standard in all jurisdictions. This means local action cannot be taken that is more or less restrictive.'

The announcement came as Georgia’s death toll from COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, reached 775 by Monday evening — an increase of 86 since Sunday night. Laboratory tests have confirmed coronavirus diagnoses in more than 19,000 Georgians.

Public health experts warned he was all but inviting a new wave of infections. 'It’s a very big risk,' said Dr. Marc Lipsitch, a professor of epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. 'If you open up enough, it’s almost for certain the virus will hit Georgia again. It’s just waiting for more susceptible people and more contacts. That’s how viruses work.'

Kemp was among the last of the nation’s governors to impose statewide social-distancing measures, and now is among the first to begin lifting them.

Another picture taken over the holiday of my sister.

SO, I was tagged too and really I feel quite honored that you all want to take the time to read my 10 things and because I am Incredibly enjoying reading about each of you here goes....

1. I met Jackie Kennedy Onassis

I started writing out the story but it's long. I was a child with my sister, father, and grandfather and my sister and I were petting her horse before she went on a fox hunt.

She is on the top of my icon list, thank you Dad!

2. My favorite book is The Great Gatsby.

I give all the credit to my English High School teacher who first taught me to see meaning in words. I adore the movie too with Robert Redford, he is HOT and I think every scene is gorgeous. My cat's name is even Gatsby ;)

3. My all time favorite movie is Overboard with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell!

4. I have a bachelors in communication and business and was once a licensed esthetician giving facials. Although being a stay at home mom is the hardest, most important, most rewarding "job" I've ever had

5. I am a super Sheye Rosemeyer fan!

I found her blog almost a year ago, nothing written has ever touched me the way her words have and do. I am forever changed as a mommy and person, a truly immeasurable gift not to mention her photography is a complete dream!

6. Celebrity gossip is my guilty pleasure, I read the magazines in the grocery isle, E is my favorite channel, I try to stay up for TMZ and sometimes I just have to check out the celebrity baby blog and the suri cruise fashion blog :)

7. I have been writing a children's book for 4 years, to work on it is always on my to do list. At first I just wanted to write it and when I decided I wanted to illustrate it, it became too big and I haven't picked it back up.

8. I really love ebay, I have 97 (I just checked) saved searches that are sent to my email everyday to a special ebay folder :) Most of my saved searches have to do Hope's wardrobe :) Oilily, Room Seven, Misha Lulu, Elephantito, and Flora Henri are some of my favorite searches. I'm constantly having to delete searches and watched items so I can add more ;)

9. I am a huge Sex and City fan! I LOVE girl talk, I am not the most modest person you'll ever meet so much so that I sometimes think how can add that into my photography. I've had some ideas but nothing brilliant yet. :)

10. I love to look at my contacts favs, it's just an extension of that individual's style, way better than explore, although I do love to look through explore on weekend mornings like reading the Sunday paper :) I have found some amazing contacts that way, I wish there was a way to organize favs though.

11. Because 11 is my favorite number (really it is) I love the sound of my children breathing and I've been trying to think of an eloquent way to describe that. I love checking on my little ones while they sleep, they just look so angelic, your heart swells and you hear their breath, it's such a beautiful and peaceful sound, I wish I could describe it better

Also I'm feeling so guilty for not getting around to all your streams yet, I am taking a lot of time to access this new year. I know it's just a day, a number really but there is such a sense of newness. I really believe in setting goals (maybe not every one gets met ie that childrens book (sigh) but when I look back at last years list it's pretty amazing to have accomplished something, an actual task or life change. I am constantly on a journey for more balance in my life! And is it just me or are all of you just bursting at the seems with creativity, what I have had time to peek at is just blowing me away!

I'm tagging 11 people, can't wait to read all your lists! :)

How to Get Liquid Gold Skin: The Glow-Boosting Complexion Trick For Brown Skin:

If you're tapped into the beauty community, you know glass skin has been a buzzy trend for some time. The hydrating skin technique has influenced how some of our favorite MUAs and estheticians approach skin and inspired countless products. Achieving radiant, reflective skin is possible no matter your skin tone, but a new trend has emerged specifically for Brown skin: liquid gold skin.

How Can Liquid Gold Skin be Achieved?

Instead of an eight-step routine, our experts have something more sustainable in mind. "You've got to have beauty hacks instead of a bunch of steps," Grover says. "Often, we're told we need 45 minutes to an hour to create a glass skin look for Brown skin, which I don't think is realistic. Liquid gold skin breaks down into a couple of things. The skin has to be smooth and firm. It has to be even."

I had a hard year to say the least... but I'm back!

I have a new PC, a new build that is even better than the last, and I have some very good friends both here and RL to thank for helping both mentally and physically get through the ordeals that I have now survived.

I just got my acceptance letter to begin studying to be an esthetician starting in February! I plan to build myself into a Master Esthetician with a focus on queer customers and gender-affirming care for all. I wish I'd figured this out a year ago but ultimately I just had to get there mentally.

Thank you to everyone for your support and your love during my hiatus. I can't say I'll be back in the same capacity as before but I hope to continue to create art for our SL community.

I'd also like to thank the team at CheerNo for their patience with me as I very likely failed to meet a deadline last year. They continue to be one of my absolute favorites.

I also discovered the Cubura store has closed and want to thank Oly Mylek and the Cubura team for all the wonderful years and products. It was a pleasure being on their blogging team for the brief period that I was.

Much love to everyone,

Mateo

Mayra told me that she likes having her photo taken. I can understand that. She does have a great figure. Some of that is thanks to a lot of salsa dancing. Mayra works as a esthetician. I think I would like to shoot her again. When we met earlier today she was on her way to the beach with her daughter Michelle.

No, I won't say who's hairy feet :) Pine Street condo, San Francisco.

Thank you Flickr Friends for all of your love the light, the inspiration, the lessons you bring of yourselves to the world daily!!! You are a sizeable part of what keeps me sane half the time! I wish you all the best in the New Year, and only request that you go out there and share a little love with someone!! The world needs it everyday, but an extra dose right now!! Love you all!! xoxo

Finally, here I go. This, by the way is not the photo I wanted. I was thinking blue jeans, half-nekkid... way better... oh well. This photo, like me, is imperfect in many ways... which makes it the perfect photo for this after all.

1. *Already done a couple posts back, basically I'm a perfectionist.

2. I loooove Valentine's Day, as far as holidays go. I love to make Valentines, I love hearts, I love LOVE, and February is the month of my birthday, so more excuses to indulge in lovey things.

3. I love animals and fresh air. They help me breath and appreciate lifes ups and downs for the lessons and the cycles that are inevitable.

4. I met my husband on a week-long backpacking trip in the Sierras when I was 14. I hoped to someday find a man like him in my future because I knew I was young and cool guys never liked me. I wished for "him". We started dating when I was 17, completely out of the blue, and we have been happily together ever since.

5. When I was 18 I graduated highschool early so I could go on an exchange program to Australia for one year.

6. As much as I love the country, there is a part of my heart that lives in the city too. I lived in Los Angeles for two years after I got married.

7. When I lived in L.A. I tried out acting and modeling. The modeling was atrocious! The acting was fabulous. I had some lucky encounters and a lot of fun!

8. I am a fantastic cook and baker! I sometimes think I would have been better served going to a culinary academy then cosmetology school....

9. Which led me to being a successful esthetician. I have worked for others, had my own business, and quit when I had my daughter. It is a business I won't return to, but I learned a lot of ground work that has helped me heal and grow since my daughter was born almost 5 years ago. And having a good understanding of skin care serves me well in so many different situations.

10. Except that I have battled with an over-abundance of facial hair for as long as I can remember. I wax everything! It is painful, not fun, not pretty, and not how I like to spend my time... but I can't get lazer treatment yet, and don't know if I would if I could.

11. When I was 4 years old my parents got a piano. I sat down and played Chariots of Fire. I am musically inclined in just about every way, but when I have quiet time, the piano is where I soar. Nowadays I just like to sit and improvise whatever's in my soul.

12. I want to be a great photographer someday as much as I want to be a fabulous dancer!! I think that I am a poet deep down, and while finding the words is sometimes difficult, taking pictures, dancing my heart out, and tickling the ivorys are just a few ways I can express myself creatively and try to express the beauty in everything... that's the poetry, I believe.

13. I am somewhat of a hermit. I live 20 minutes from anyone I want to really spend time with and with my husband gone a lot for work, my daughter and I are a couple of well-bonded home-bodies. We enjoy our time at home, our time with each other and all of our explorations and animal friends.

14. My husband is my rock and my best friend. I believe that he has been my soul mate in more lives than this one.

15. I am the eternal optimist and I like to try and see the beauty and love in everything... there's enough hate and darkness in the world for me to spend too much time feeding it.

16. Inspite of my ultra-sensitive nature, the realist in me can usually handle whatever's thrown my way. But don't you dare lie to me!!! Nothing pisses me off more! I can't tell a lie to save my life, and wouldn't want to... let's all be honest, things are so much less complicated when everyone is truthful with one another!!

Phew.... if you read all that, you must be an avid reader... that was a lot about...me...wierd. Okay, let's move on now. I've been tagged by three friends: 2 nutty girls, and one Yives. The tagging is going around quite well and as I've been sitting on this one for awhile, please if you haven't been tagged yet, I've got 16 to use up, so feel free!! You're IT!

Spokane, Washington.

RF Microneedling Is a Must-Know Treatment for Skin of Color:

Struggling with stubborn acne scars? You’ve likely heard that chemical exfoliation and lasers are your best friend. While that’s true for some people, if you have a darker complexion, relying on those methods can do more harm than good. That’s why radiofrequency microneedling is such a popular treatment these days. By combining two trusted methods, a single treatment is able to address multiple signs of complexion damage without causing more in the process.

What Is Radiofrequency Microneedling?

Let’s break it down, shall we? Microneedling is the use of teeny, tiny needles to create microaggressions in the skin that speed up wound healing, while radiofrequency is a type of high-intensity energy that’s able to penetrate the skin to lead to an improved complexion. When the two are combined, medical esthetician Tamila Deveny says that the cosmetic procedure, which uses “specially insulated needles that deliver high-intensity radio frequency energy into the targeted tissue once the needles have broken through the skin,” stimulates collagen and elastic production to boost new, healthy tissue in the skin, ultimately working to restore your complexion to its flawless, pre-scar appearance.

“In my opinion, it is one of the most effective treatments for anti-aging and to treat scars on the face or body,” she shares.

Benefits of Radiofrequency Microneedling:

•Improves acne or surgery scars (on the face and body)

•Reduces fine lines and wrinkles

•Reduces the appearance of hyperpigmentation

•Reduces the appearance of stretch marks

•Helps with dull or uneven skin tone or texture

•Shrinks enlarged pores

•Helps with loose skin (face and body)

•Reduces cellulite

•Firms upper eyelid skin

•Smooths lines on the upper lip skin

While coming up with photos for my three year flickrversary I spent an afternoon at Castle in the Clouds in Moultonborough, NH. This is known as "Falls of the Songs" and is about 50 feet. Unfortunately, there's no real good vantage point to see the thing, and this woodsy area was still swarming with black flies weeks ago and I left sporting a large welt on my temple.

The shot was a total accident, and in fact I hated every other shot I took there that day. The falls are really tucked away behind a craggy area and narrow and dark, and god forbid you crawl over a fence out there.

It is now officially July.

I have 54 days in NH left.

That is roughly 8 weeks.

I have 32 days left in the office.

I have 1 wedding to photograph.

1 vacation to Portland left.

1 more trip to Lubec, ME.

1 more trip to Storyland.

1 more trip to Clark's Trading Post.

I have 1 week left until I'm 29.

I have 2 shitty anniversaries this month.

And my going away party is planned.

So in honor of my leaving NH I came up with a list of 100 things I'm leaving behind. It's not your typical 100 list, and not everything that made this list is a positive. In fact, some of the following items contribute to my hightailing it out of this state!

Good, bad, or otherwise, I have spent 20 years here, and not all of it loathesome. I will say my opinion as a non-native is that the difference between a trailer park in NH and one in Alabama can be answered with one word: SNOW. The jokes about NH are plentiful, from racially motivated cracks about "The White Mountains", to a bit of humor stolen from a Maine comedian, "you can't get there from here," to commentary on the weather, "Don't like it? Wait a minute." I have spent a great deal of time trying to run away. 11 years in fact.

But in my adult life I have also made truly irreplaceable friendships, and that makes it harder to leave than anything else. But just like me in this photo, my time here is fading quickly, but the tattoos and memories are permanent.

I now present to you, 100 things in NH I am leaving behind:

My daughter likes me to respect her privacy, and I pretty much try to. But this morning, her employer asked us to attend a big staff meeting for her company, Nordstrom's, where she was to be surprised with a award--a big honor for all her hard work.

She's an esthetician and has so many clients that have become her good friends as well. They write to her bosses, singing her praises, "she knows all my secrets", said one commentor.

I won't pretend to really understand what her job entails, but it's clear that she's good at what she does, and deserves a lot of respect for her talent and hard work. She's got a knack for it, too--whenever she sees me, she comments disdainfully about any wayward hair that might be growing out of my nose, or whether I have "Andy Rooney eyebrows."

Well, everytime I see her, I shake my head over her nosebleed high heels. I predict it's the source of her backpain--"whatever, Dad", she replies. Well, after a morning spent in that room, of home-run hitting fashionistas, I won't be commenting on footwear anymore. It's a good moment, when your kid gets to bask in the glow of their success. A Dad just needs to enjoy the reflected light, and maybe make a quick picture, too. Those Shoes!

Min was a regular Club 57 member. She was in the 13 all girl band Pulsallama. She was an assistant in New York for artist Kenny Scharf. She is married to artist Oliver Sanchez whom she met in 1980 and has a 17 year old daughter. They live in Miami Beach. She is currently an esthetician, a hotel concierge, and has an organic cookie business. Over the past few years she has resumed performing with Kenny Scharf.

I took this photo of Min on a rooftop in the East Village. Rooftops were a great place for a retreat from Manhattan madness.

this is my esthetician's house. isn't it cute with all the little lovely flower pots? this picture makes me incredibly happy for some reason.

today's positive thought...there is sunshine and a nice cool breeze. one of my fave weather combos.

this is my picture for may 11, 2010
