Jittery – What about a caffeine shot? Literally… some restriction may apply! LOL
Macro Monday project – 03/22/10
"Restrictions"
Macro Monday: Theme - Creamy
I'm a crema snob.
The perfect espresso has the creamiest crema layer on top. Nothing else will do and nothing else compares to the creamy goodness. Mouth is watering just thinking about it.
These shots are so much easier to take with the D300 :)
Strobist: 1 sb-800 camera left, 1 sb-25 camera right (can't remember settings), both bare and directed towards the spout.
I really love the new blobbyness with the reduced pressure. It just seems so much more gooey in motion. I'll be working on some videography in the near future.
This is an espresso extraction through a bottomless portafilter. It is an uneven extraction, however it tasted great! The machine used is an Isomac Millennium. Shot with a Nikon D300s and 35mm 1.8.
The perfect way to recover after a long day of work. I do not really know if it is a Latte Macchiato or a Cappuccino and to be honest - I do not really care. It is delicious.
I brew a good shot of espresso with our great machine, heat up some full cream milk and froth it by hand. I carefully pour the foam into the cup with the espresso, add some cacao powder on top and serve it with amarettini and or other pastry.
I could not decide if liked the colored version better or the black & white version better, so I uploaded both. Feel free to share your thoughts.
note to self: clean the espresso machine.

It can't be a coincidence that he gets the kiss for an Italian coffee (behind his back).
While in Wuerzburg/Germany my sister made me discover a cute new bar (I already forgot the name, something trendy) that mixes the best of several coffee cultures: it has good Italian espresso, but offers you the comfort of northern Europe coffee-houses, to say a lot of couches and newspapers to read. You can have a quick espressoshot at the bar, but you can have your chilly chai-latte, too. If you then pair an espressodrinker with a chailattedrinker as it happened to me and my sister, well then you just might hope that coffee has the soothing aspect of tea and you have a lot to talk (as women always have) - you sip and let time pass.
While the Americans discuss if they should go Italian and the Italians if they should embrace American-style coffee-culture, this bar in Wuerzburg has already found a good mix.
They should add some southern Mediterranean (Morocco) and eastern (Turkey, Greece) Coffee (plus their fabulous sweets) and it would be perfect!

in the first few days after roasting coffee, the espresso typically overflows the cup.

I remember talking in alt.coffee about how I was able to get a full centimetre or more of crema on my shots of espresso from home roasting, brewing the coffee at its peak, and not using robusta (which was a big experimenting debate at the time). I was called out on this by a few folk who didn't believe me. So I had to post some photo series to prove it. This is one of the rather crappy digital photos I took at the time. These shots would develop out having 1cm of crema in the glass.

Here is the short version of a video of us testing out the new Multi-Stage Extraction Pressure system on our espresso machine. Noting the difference extraction pressure makes on the taste of the finished espresso...and getting very wired in the process.

When you don't have a shotglass handy, sometimes a beaker will do for an espresso shot. Heck, it looks pretty, too.
Stealing a moment to enjoy silence, light and a well needed espresso shot. The setting sun comes much to fast in these winter months, this time they enhanced the aroma and the moment.
