Same procedure as last week... I wasn't really happy with any of my images, and took several more (of the same subject) today, but in the end I decided to stick to an image taken last night. It's strange sometimes, isn't it? So here we go, circles, or rather holes of a reduction sieve (?) that came with my espresso maker. Each of the holes has a diameter of 1 mm / 0,03 inches. I wanted a very narrow focal plane and everything else as bokeh, and in that I guess I've succeeded – somehow. Well, I hope you like the image anyway, I've looked at it too many times yesterday and today, so I can't see the forest for the trees (or the coffee for the holes) :)

It's a single image illuminated with one LED lamp (equipped with the blue tealight holder), and backlight coming from another LED lamp (equipped with the yellow plastic bottle cap) on which I had also placed the sieve. Processed in DXO and Color Efex where I'd slightly tweaked the colours by adding some warmth with the Reflector Efex Gold filter.

HMM, Everyone!

Ready for a morning latte, my little espresso pot is reflected in the glass cooktop....

This was a test shot; I planned to go back and do a better shot later, but no, I didn't even come close to whatever it was that I liked here this first time. Sigh......

SSC - Tea or Coffee

This was a tough one and I was at a loss what to do, finally, I came up with the idea of visually showing the end journey of the coffee bean.

rachel's parents gifted us with new coffee mugs they were immediately pressed into service as double latte insulators.

Macro Monday: Theme - Comfort

oh sweet smell and taste of fresh brewed coffee! I love my morning cup! Such comfort when I need a little help getting ready for the busy day ahead. You never let me down - I can hardly live without you!

I see a lot of fellow Macro Monday friends feel the same way.

Macro Monday: Theme: Contraption

This one is for Will, a certain certified ninja here on flickr because he had no idea what my previous upload was. So here's a better view of where the contraption came from. Knowing Will, he'll probably say he still doesn't know what it is : )

BTW - if you don't know Will, you really should get a cup of coffee (or tea), sit back and click here

Induction heating is a fast and efficient contactless method for heating conductive materials such as metals and semiconductors by applying a fluctuating magnetic field. Recently, it has become one of the preferred heating technologies for industrial, medical and domestic applications due to its advantages over traditional heating techniques (resistance heating, flame heating, ovens, furnaces, etc.). Induction heating is particularly useful for performing highly precise or repetitive operations.

Basics of Induction Heating

In induction heating, an alternating current (AC) source is used to supply current to an induction heating coil. As a result, the coil generates an alternating magnetic field. When an object is placed in this field, two heating effects occur:

hysteresis losses – these occur only in magnetic materials such as iron, nickel, cobalt, etc. due to the friction between the molecules when the material is being continuously magnetized in different directions. Higher magnetic field oscillation frequency results in faster particle movement, which causes more friction and thus more heat.

eddy-current losses – these occur as a Joule heating effect in any conductive material because of the electric currents induced by the fluctuating magnetic field.

Both effects result in heating of the treated object but the second one is most commonly the main heat source in IH processes. Moreover, hysteresis is not observed in non-magnetic materials, and magnetic materials lose their magnetic specificities if heated above a specific temperature (the so-called Curie point).

Hello again flickr friends. Another one for bokeh Wednesday. Originally shot for macro monday but never made it. I heard this quote earlier today and giggled to myself because it's similar to what my husband might say about me. The bokeh espresso cup pictured here is also very similar to what it looks like to me before I take that first sip.

HBW!

Note the nice thick, rich crema on this nearly ready double espresso. It only took 3 double espressos to get the shot right. Why are my hands shaking?

When my cousin asked me a couple of weeks ago : "What is the best latte machine?" I didn't have an answer on the spot. When it comes to coffee brewing, obviously, all friends and family rely on my expert advice. I was a bit disappointed by myself for not being prepared for this question. In

I love my espresso maker, too bad it doesn't steam any more =( It brews shots but doesn't steam the milk. I miss it sooooo much.

That would be the reason I have a Starbucks coffee in my hand and yes I did go to Starbucks in my pj's but lucky for me there is a drive-thru near me and I put a coat on so no one was the wiser. Oh and when I went through the drive-thru this morning I ordered TWO because one was not going to do it for me today.
