"I like coffee because it gives me the illusion that I might be awake." - Lewis Black

-----

Woke up much too early this morning and decided to embrace it. Laundry is almost done, the house is clean and my Sweet Sunday is done for this week, all before 9:00am and all before breakfast.

Not a bad start to a Sunday; although, since I've made such a dent in the to-do list I'm not too sure what I'll do for the rest of the day now.

I'm sure I'll find something to keep me busy though. The sun is shining and the temperature is mild, so nothing to complain about today.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Macro Monday: Theme - In The Dark

I realized during this challenge that I am in the dark everyday, and that's a good thing as far as I'm

concerned. From the moment I get up I go for the deep, dark, rich coffee waiting for me in my kitchen and at about lunch time I start in on dark chocolate and do so throughout the day and well into the night (lindt 70 or 85 percent - yum)

A happy accident! The chocolate pieces took on the oils of the coffee beans so when I took a bite of chocolate I was pleasantly surprised. Perfect!

*No chocolate was harmed or wasted in the making of this image.

Happy Macro Monday!

Well he told me: "a double espresso please, as black as you can get it, none of that sugar or fru fru stuff".

Sometimes you really can get what you want (no matter what the song says).

INGREDIENTS

1 roll (16.5 oz) Pillsbury® refrigerated chocolate chip cookies

1/4 cup Smucker’s® Sweet Orange Marmalade

1/2 cup Fisher® Chef's Naturals® Chopped Pecans

1/2 cup Pillsbury BEST® All Purpose Unbleached or All Purpose Flour

1/4 cup Hershey’s® baking cocoa

2 tablespoons instant coffee granules

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

1/4 teaspoon ground allspice

1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper (cayenne)

24 chocolate-covered espresso beans

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 to 2 tablespoons milk

1 tablespoon Hershey’s® baking cocoa

DIRECTIONS

1. Let cookie dough stand at room temperature for 10 minutes to soften. Meanwhile, heat oven to 350°F. In large bowl, break up cookie dough; add marmalade and pecans. In small bowl, mix flour, 1/4 cup cocoa, coffee granules, cinnamon, cloves, allspice and red pepper; stir into dough mixture with wooden spoon until well blended.

2. Shape dough into 24 (about 1 1/2-inch) balls. On ungreased large cookie sheets, place balls 2 inches apart. Gently press 1 espresso bean into center of each cookie.

3. Bake 9 to 12 minutes or until tops are cracked and edges are set. Let stand on cookie sheet 1 minute; remove to cooling racks. Cool completely, about 30 minutes.

4. In small bowl, mix powdered sugar, milk and 1 tablespoon cocoa until smooth and well blended; drizzle over cookies. Let stand about 15 minutes until set.

I was surprised to see Steve and Kathryn's new mural, which is so, so, so cool, even though Kathryn's not so crazy about the eyes in the flowers, and I agree that not everything has to be weird, but the sunflowers and the beachiness are just so super, and I am terribly jealous of this painting—not that they own it but that someone can do this (because I can't paint at all), and you'll have to pardon me because I've eaten a couple espresso beans after an hour-long nap on the sofa, and I'm just about to embark on the four-o'clock beer journey and make some pesto with the fresh basil in my garden.

Oh one-touch cappuccino machine, how I love thee. You are there for me every morning at the break of dawn. You don't care that I come to you all bedheaded, mascara smudged under my eyes; you don't judge me. You never complain, you just deliver, seven days a week, 365 days a year. You give and give and yet ask nothing in return; except for the occassional descaling, but I don't mind because you are worth it. I love you. There, I said it . . .
