A battery of cannons is lined up in front of the Esplanade des Invalides. These cannons are made of bronze, date from the 18th century and come from the capture of Turkish enemies (they have beautiful Arabic inscriptions). They have charming names... such as " Caressing ", " Rigid ", " Burning " and yes... even " Penetrating " !
For many years Windsor Esplanade was the most southerly street in Cardiff. Now overlooking the Wetland Sanctuary, in place since 2002 with the building of the Bay Barrage, it once had a view of vast tidal mudflats at low tide and the comings and goings of thousands of ships during high water to what was once one of the busiest ports in the world.

Esplanade – Theaters on the Bay, aka The Big Durian locally, are performing art theaters in Singapore's Marina Bay. It has aluminum triangles covering the two glass shell structures (only one can be seen in this photo) to provide shades from the direct equatorial sun. From afar, these look like two-halves of a durian, therefore the nickname.
Walking along the Queen Elizabeth walk in Singapore, we ran across this nice pedestrian tunnel.

Another photo of Esplanade (foreground) and Gargoyle mountains in Jasper National Park. This view is from near Snaring Campground and it isn't really a photo hotspot, although I think these mountains are quite impressive.
The Corran Esplanade in Oban is where you'll find many guest houses and hotels for the visitor as well as St Columba's Cathedral.

At Lake Thun "Thunersee" in Switzerland. Shot with Sony A7 Mii and the Zeiss Batis 1.8/85mm at F=2.2.
Lake Thun (German: Thunersee) is an Alpine lake in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland named after the city of Thun, on its northern shore.
The lake was created after the last glacial period. After the 10th century, it split from Lake Brienz, before which the two lakes were combined, as Wendelsee ("Lake Wendel"). The culminating point of the lake's drainage basin is the Finsteraarhorn at 4,274 metres above sea level.
Lake Thun's approximate 2,500 km² catchment area frequently causes local flooding after heavy rainfalls. This occurs because the river Aare (German: Aare), which drains Lake Thun, has only limited capacity to handle the excess runoff. The lake is fed by water from Lake Brienz to the southeast, which is 6 metres higher than Lake Thun, and various streams in the Oberland, including the Kander.
In 1835, passenger ships began operating on the lake. Ten passenger ships, operated by the local railway company BLS AG, serve the towns of Interlaken and Thun; the Interlaken ship canal and Thun ship canal connect the lake to Interlaken West railway station and Thun railway station respectively.
Following World War II and up until 1964, the Swiss Government disposed of unused munitions into Lake Thun. The quantity of munitions dumped is reported to be from 3,000 to more than 9,020 tons.
Europe, Greece, Attika, Athens, Marousi suburb, OAKA Olympic Esplanade (Santiago Calatrava) (slightly cut from all sides)
Going thru my Athens 2008 folder, lookin' for the pic that is my previous post, I came across the OAKA pictures. So…..
Shown here is the Esplanade that gives access to the main Olympic facilities of 2004 in Athens (Santiago Calatrava, 2004). It's an array of 99 interconnected metal parabolic arches.
Most OAKA facilities were, by the way, already created in 1980-1982 for the European Athletics Championship and enlarged or embellished. In the BG is the Velodrome. Almost entirely devoid of people it was a fascinating but also a somewhat eerie place to visit.
An other capture of the Esplanade from within is: here
A capture of the renovated Olympic stadium (Calatrava) is: here.
A capture of the roof (Calatrava) of the velodrome is: here

A previously unpublished shot from the Scottish International Air Show in September 2017. Chips always taste nicer right next to the sea and even more so when they are somebody else's chips! Enjoy.
Built in 1753, the large flat area was the stage for Edinburgh's military. After being refurbished to its present day appearance, the esplanade is used today as the annual outdoor showground for The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

These are two mountains in the ridges north of Jasper Lake in Jasper National Park. Esplanade is the mountain on the left, which I believe was given the name Esplanade because it is a moderate scramble to the peak. Gargoyle, snow capped in the background, is tougher and got its name from the appearance of a creek that originates near the peak.
With a good view of the taxi pier, the Outdoor Performance Theater and the Waterfront promenade that stretches from Jubilee Bridge all the way to The Helix.
Ps. This is Not A Blue Hour shot! The blue sky is due to the reflection of light from the Helix Bridge.

The Esplanade overlooking Darwin Harbour in Darwin Northern Territory Australia
The Esplanade overlooking Darwin Harbour with approx. 3klm of paved walk ways surrounded by lush green lawns and palms.
There are many places of interest such as the 200 Territorians On the cliff top running parallel to the Esplanade is a series of commemorative tiles dedicated to 200 typical Territorians.
They are not all famous figures, but they all performed jobs upon which the Territory relied.

There are stockmen and missionaries, politicians and aboriginal leaders.
Then there is Eddie Connellan, who ran the Territory airline Connair (unofficial motto, ‘There's no tellin' with Connellan'), and many other colourful characters.
There is also the World War 11 reminders of what darwin experience many years ago. From the Espanade at the end it adjoins the road past the Administrators House.
As you walk or drive alond the esplanade you look out over to darwin Harbour and often you see large Live Cargo ships, Luxury passenger Ships and even Oil Rig Platforms coming and going thru the habour. 'Only in Darwin'.
