Ramadan is the month in which the Qur'an was sent down: this Book is a perfect guidance for mankind and consists of clear teachings which show the right way and are a criterion of Truth and falsehood. Therefore from now on whoever witnesses it, it is obligatory on him to fast the whole month, but if one be ill or on a journey, he should make up for the same number by fasting on other days. Allah desires to show leniency to you and does not desire to show any hardship. Therefore, this method is being shown to you so that you may complete the number of Fasting days and glorify Allah for the Guidance He has shown to you and be grateful to Him. (Holy Quran 2:185)

Taken at my home in Muvattupuzha, Kerala, India. These are the pollen stems of wild plant. Last week, we found a lot of these flowers on the sides of roads in Kerala.. Picked a few of them for photography
The pollen stems are long and curved. The pictures show only the tip. Purposely chose a very large aperture to get this effect. Broke a rule of macro/closeup photography (generally an aperture of f/11 is advised. This is shot at f/2.2).
It seems, pollen forensics is an upcoming area of study and research. Watch this TED talk by Jonathan Drori . He shows microscopic details of different kinds of pollen in this video. This photo is an inspiration for this shot.

Imagine a Pooram without elephants !
Elephants have always fascinated me, its an experience very similar to sitting in a beach and watching the waves, I could do that all day !
There is considerable opposition from "Elephant lovers" pertaining to using elephants for the Pooram. In fact, there were groups collecting signatures both for/against the cause at the Pooram site.
One of the elephants - Erattupetta Ayyappan developed cramps during the Elanjithara Melam and collapsed. There was some news in the papers that the elephant was used again in Guruvayoor two days after the Pooram. That is absolutely ridiculous, thanks to a few irresponsible morons out there, the whole community gets a bad name.

The International Indian School Jeddah formerly known as the Embassy of India School, was founded in 1969. It made a very humble beginning with a limited number of students, staff and infrastructural facilities in a makeshift area. The objective of establishing the school was to impart quality education to the children of Indian nationals residing in Jeddah. The construction of the present Girls' Section started in 1982 with the foundation stone laid by the Late Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi and was completed in 1984. The section located in Al-Aziziah Dist. spreads over an area of more than 8000 sq. meters and has all the required facilities. By the late 1980s, the students' strength had unexpectedly increased to the extent that the vast premises of the school in Al-Aziziah was not sufficient. Hence, the construction of an additional premises - the present Boys' Section was started in 1990 and completed in 1994.The Boys' Section in Al-Rehab Dist. spreads over an area of more than 17000 sq. meters with a big playground and all other facilities. With the blessings of the Almighty and constant efforts put in by well wishers, the school has expanded in a phenomenal manner. Currently the school is catering to the educational needs of over 12000 students.
