Epping Forest. Formally known as Waltham Forest is an ancient woodland north-east of London.

As a former royal forest dating from the 12th Century, it is managed by the City of London Corporation since 1878.

The forest is 2,476 hectares in area, comprising woodland, grassland and open heath, forming a 19km long green corridor.

Much of the forest is a Site of Specific Interest, a Special Area of Conservation and an Ancient Woodland. Epping Forest is also accredited as a Green Heritage Site.

Nice to see this old bit of the Central line up and running with steam.
