Epilepsy Action's runners and supporters at the 2015 Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon

Subdural strips had just been removed and I was on the phone with my parents. I've added this to the epileptics with cameras groups mostly because of a discussion I read concerning epileptics on flickr. Flickr users questioned if someone should associate themselves with a condition that they have, illness, physical disability, etc. Seizures, in my opinion, are so much different than other issues people face. We see ourselves as our mind, our memories and our thoughts. Those things effect everything we are and everything we do. It is hard to separate that from anything else. And it effects how we photograph things, how we see the world and thus how we record it. And when you go through this sort of thing it makes it even harder.... Not looking for sympathy, just wanting to try and explain....

"The photos that I have taken show all the activities I love doing, especially sport. I felt that even though I have epilepsy I am extremely lucky for the advantage of being able to do my favourite things. I hope this will help other people with epilepsy

Paul following the historic climb up the Clock Tower to view Big Ben. The rules restricted people who had epilepsy from climbing up. These were recently changed to allow that to happen.

Me getting a video EEG. No, I didn't have a lobotomy, and they didn't have to shave my head. (I got asked those questions a lot.)

I have been fitted with an ambulatory EEG System www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/eeg_ambulatory. I may have symptoms of epilepsy (petit mal seizures) and I have to wear this for the better part of three days. Next up a cat scan, I doubt they will let me take my camera in there.

Prescriptions like Luminal were specific for epilepsy and no longer contained opium. Phenobarbital, a barbiturate is the active ingredient in Luminal.

I had another seizure...

One of the numerous bitter ironies Golding included within his dystopic tale: The Lord of the Flies was actually a "sow's" head and NOT a boar's

“I’m warning you. I’m going to get angry. D’you see? You’re not wanted. Understand? We are going to have fun on this island. Understand? We are going to have fun on this island! So don’t try it on, my poor misguided boy, or else–”

i took this at BRI (Bradford Royal Infirmary) for an a/v presentation i was doing as part of my photography course. the subject of the presentation was epilepsy. i went out and met people with epilepsy, intervied them and took photos of them for the project. i never completed it (the audio part of it at least) cos i got a job and preferred to be earning money than... well, not.

i chose epilepsy because i have epilepsy and went thru similar tests as the boy above. it was quite fascinating being on the other side watcing the process and the machines that go 'ping'... ;)

i don't know whether the boy in the photo had epilepsy (i didn't ask) i was there to interview the doctor and take photos of a couple of the patients if possoble.

(his face is a bit out of focus tho :/ taken on slde film with bouced flash)

"End Epilepsy!" That was the message Sunday in Tolland at the Epilepsy Foundation of Connecticut's Nationwide Walk to End Epilepsy at Crandall Park. Many thanks to Laura Cassenti, the organizer of the event, and Linda Wallace, executive director of the Epilepsy Foundation of Connecticut, for their tireless efforts to raise awareness and funds to combat this disease. I also want to commend walk attendee Shane Conroy, who is a representative from Athletes Vs. Epilepsy and who was an ambassador and national representative for the walk in Washington, DC. Shane is from Glastonbury and is a swimmer. Shane will attend Ithaca College in the fall. Funds raised by the event go toward research and a summer camp for children with epilepsy. I am proud to walk with Team Justin! Thanks to all for walking in the rain for a great cause!

Due to recent reports by the NAAED Pregnancy Registry, a registry designed to track the influences of anticonvulsant drugs on mothers and their unborn children, the FDA has revised the pregnancy category rating of popular migraine and seizure medication Topamax (also known as Topagen or topiramate) to a class D drug.

Class D rating for a drug by the FDA means that there is significant evidence that the drug can cause malformations or harm to a human fetus if taken by the mother during pregnancy.  Topamax during pregnancy is of specific concern due to its link to the development of cleft palate birth defects.

Topamax cleft palate as well as other oral-facial clefts such as cleft lip, have been the birth defect most reported with use of Topamax. As a result, the FDA has required the makers of Topamax to add these birth defects to the label, of which they were absent prior to the warning and class change.  Due to the fact that women were taking Topamax and were unaware of these harmful side effects, many are turning to the advice of Topamax attorneys who can advise on the future of Topamax lawsuits and how they might be able to garner compensation for their child's birth defects.
