High in the mountains stars above my head

I lay myself down in a makeshift bed

The atmosphere was cold and clear

And deep into the heavens, I did peer

In silence I viewed the Milky Way

In hopes to soon return one day. :)

This was taken while on an adventure with Wayne Pinkston on the same night that we ran into Brad Goldpaint who was teaching a nightscape photography workshop. I told Brad that I was considering taking his course and when Wayne walked up behind me and Brad realized who he was said "Why would you take my workshop when your hanging around with Wayne Pinkston" :) LOL

I have begun a new life journey allowing the Tao to guide my thoughts and it has allowed me to realize that life is not guided by my actions, but in fact, it is the actions of lives past, that dictate my future.

Wow, I can't believe I just came up with that. Haha.

Such is the way of the Tao. :-)

I have been reading Dr. Eliott McGuckins, Tao of Epic Landscape Photography. And I have a new outlook on my life and my photography. Thank You Eliott, Your a huge inspiration my friend. Looking forward to shooting with you again soon. :)

and it is NOT photoshopped. Can you spot it! I was awe-struck when I saw it. This is shot close to Goðafoss,, where the river is taking its further cause after the immense plunge it takes at Goðafoss, waterfall. The landscape appears so archaic and could be right out of a legend of old :)

Happy Textural Tuesday!

I'd promised myself—and one of my gurus, Ronnie—months ago to take a relaxed time-out over the border to see if I could photograph a proper, epic landscape... perhaps wandering around, watching and waiting for hours with a packed lunch, for the weather to evolve...like I imagine landscapers do when they capture the wonder before their eyes.

This was not that, by any stretch. More a potted moment. still plan to take that time-out though, one morning or evening.

On a fleeting whim after delivering logs, I drove up the long steep hill out of Os and into Wales to chase what I saw in the sky. I drove miles following, trying to find somewhere to stop, get out and shoot. Stopped loads of times. And changed my mind as much as the sky did. Just couldn't get out of the van and find a spot in time.

Seemed I was on the wrong road. And of course, in that half an hour or so, the world changed.

There had been brief sprinkles of snow all day. You can see just a few tiny dark spots of it here, if you zoom, blowing towards me. It was a storm in a teacup.

Chuffed though, to chase :-))

A shot from my pre digital archives taken at Bryce canyon NP in Utah back in 1997 . This was during our first trip to America and at the time we thought it would be a once in a lifetime trip . In fact we returned to the Western USA on three other occasions. This first trip though was our longest I clocked up 4,500 miles in a three week trip. I remember the impact on us of the epic landscapes of Utah, Nevada, California and Arizona . It was so very different and more dramatic than anything we had ever seen. The sense of open space and wilderness was also powerful. It made England feel so tiny and crowded Shame i did not have a digital camera in fact did they even exist in 1997. I certainly went through a lot of rolls of film on that trip .

This is a scanned image from a print photograph the quality is not that good but I thought it deserved an outing

THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT TO MY STREAM.

I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU COULD NOT FAVE A PHOTO

WITHOUT ALSO LEAVING A COMMENT .

Besenheide - broom heather (Calluna vulgaris)

It don’t has to be the epic landscapes and great sunrises all the time. Even in the small details is laying so much elegance and beauty. For that reason I’m going to show you today this small single bush of heather that found me and talked to me on my early morning hike through the Koenigsbrueck heather.

This area of Kyrgyzstan, close to the Chinese border, is sparsely populated in summer and almost uninhabited during the winter. The local population still largely lives in yurts during the summer when the area is used as a pasture for lifestock and removing them when leaving the area in winter.

Two young birch trees are standing directly on the precipice and swaying back and forth to a melody that probably only they can hear. They froze in mid-movement.

Their branches are covered by a layer of ice and now, in front of the smokescreen, you can see them beautifully and in detail. A real feast for the eyes.

Like the music of the birches, so is this photo. No epic landscape in grandiose light. no This picture comes along quietly, you have to take your time, get involved and let it sink in. And maybe you can hear the music after all.

Back to the Epic Landscape of Norway

This little house at mountain side appears too small for human and perfect for Hobbits. There is a delicate chimney made of stone too, meticulously maintained....another one just like it down the hill fell to despair ...Mmm

Any clue as to what it is good for ?

In J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy world of Middle-earth, "Lord of the Ring" and "Hobbit", the Misty Mountains are an epic mountain range.

The Fellowship of the Ring tried to cross Misty Mountain through the Redhorn Pass, but a blizzard forced it to go under the mountain instead of over it.

First off, 14+ hour work day yesterday so I missed out on keeping up, but I did peek at comments (more often than I should have) on my phone and want to thank you all again for taking the time to comment, usually the less than epic landscape images land with a thud so I was happy ya'll liked it as much as I do.

Second, why yes, this is a teaser shot, took it as an afterthought after being surrounded and astounded by what most of you probably recognize as the amazing Panther Creek Falls, but I stopped in my tracks as I was folding up the tripod and just ogling when this smaller scene appeared. I found it so indicative of where I live, water is everywhere and we aren't called the evergreen state for nothin'.

Sunset in Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia, is a beautiful place. However, the temperatures drop in a short period of time to well below 0 celcius and this maybe be unexpected given the high temperatures during the day. Warm clothing becomes necessary very quickly which I unfortunately did not have!

Pangnirtung can be a huge challenge to fly into during certain times of the year. Fog and high winds plague the fjord, grounding aircraft for sometimes weeks at a time.

Fortunately after five days of rescheduled flights due to weather I made in to the hamlet to be treated by this vista as I got off the airplane.

Yosemite Valley, Yosemite National Park

Epic views from which no one can escape. The Grand Canyon with its red rock formations shows man his place: a mere speck of dust in the face of the creation that has taken place over millions of years.

A mi lado estaban @rafadiez78 y @mardonss

This photo captures the epic landscape of las Torres del Paine that greeted me after a challenging first day on the W Classic trail in Patagonia.

Exhausted but exhilarated, I conquered 30km (18.64mi) of dramatic climbs and descents, swapping stories and trail wisdom with fellow hikers from across the globe (some even spilled the beans on the best campsites for the W Reverse!).

Refugio Central's delicious dinner, potent pisco sours, and a soothing hot shower were just what the doctor ordered. But before sleep claimed me, I had to steal one last look at these majestic mountains bathed in the golden light of dusk from my bedroom window. The raw beauty of this place takes your breath away - I can't wait to delve deeper tomorrow, ready for day two of six on this incredible adventure!

What better spot to capture the epic grandeur of the magnificent Rottnest Island than Salmon Bay on a beautiful Friday morning

A view across part of Icelands epic landscape captured high above the Endless Black Beach at Dyrhólaey in the South of the country. If you look carefully on the right you can see some people on top of the cliff taking in the wonderful view.

After two trips to this out of this world place via guided tours, I decided that I wanted to experience sunset and and sunrise at White Pocket. We rented a 4x4 Bronco and drove the deep sandy and rocky road out into the back country to get the freedom to explore as much as we wanted and car camp for sunset and sunrise. It definitely didn’t disappoint.

A sunburst coming through the lone pine tree at White Pocket

From Piz Boe, Dolimites, Italy.

A quiet reflective time spent wandering around the mountains. Spending time just looking. It often turns out that the simple streams and heather capture the moment rather than the epic landscape that we chase.

MALHAM MOORS...

THIS is the last place we took my lovely son, Michel when he was here.

It was quiet, peaceful and calm, only the wind caressing your ears, strange little birds chirping and sheep blaring.

Michel seemed to come to rest from his all too busy life.

The three of us absorbed the epic surroundings, no words were needed.

I would like to say to you all, do not ever leave a loved one on a bad note, you NEVER know if you will meet again.

Due to circumstances, like a virus and lockdowns... this was the last time we hugged, when he left, and like usual, we told each other: I love you, take care.

He died on the 7th of July 2020.

Malham Moor and the surrounding area is wonderfully rich in natural history.

This wealth stems from the climate and the geology – the limestone laid down beneath ancient seas and capped by sandstone deposits, raised up, fractured by fault lines and scoured by glaciers to form the watershed of our modern rivers.

With love to you and thank you for ALL your faves and comments, M, (* _ *)

We're starting today a little more cautiously, if one can even speak of caution given all the natural beauty that surrounds us.

But at least the protagonists are of the more reserved variety. These aren't epic landscapes or historic castles, but simply a group of young birch trees in winter dress on a rocky plateau in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.

And until a few minutes ago, I hadn't even thought about taking a photo of them. But then the morning sun climbed over the ridge of the Schrammstein cliffs in the background and caught the branches of one of these birch trees.

And suddenly, the scene was filled with life and warmth and definitely worth capturing in a photograph.

It's hard for me to comb through all my trip photos. Occasionally I'll go back and find a few gems. I like this shot of this incredible rock formation in Scottsdale, Arizona. I took this on my first morning walking around and dealing with jetlag. * I replaced the sky.

As we were driving through the desert, we came upon this lonesome camel enjoying the epic landscape while soaking up the morning sun.

In the highlands of Iceland, barren areas alternate with epic landscape panoramas. The roar of the waterfall fills the air as does the cool spray that covers the face.

Here’s a photo I took beginning of May this year. We had some perfect sunset clouds on that day in the middle of Germany… the sky was rather more grey during afternoon but turned into an amazing orange during sunset… really intense and beautiful.

I did a walk on a nearby Castle „Weidelsburg“ where I got this great view. The castle is the largest in the region I live and was built in the 12th century.
