SICHUAN, CHINA: IS THIS the most densely packed student village in the world? Dizzying images of thousands of log cabins piled high along hillsides and down valley are actually student accommodation. Stretching far and wide these incredible pictures show the red orange and green decorated make shift homes of local monks and nuns tightly packed together surrounding the main university for the study of Tibetan Buddhism. Other pictures show the traditional sky burial, whereby the deceased is place inside a vessel and left for vultures to consume. Photographer Jesse Earl Rockwell (32) from Santa Barbara, California spent six days on location at Larung Gar Buddhist Institute, Gharze Prefecture, Sichuan China to photograph this incredible sprawling hillside habitation.

Artist John Pugh is used to people's amazed reactions when they pass his epic architectural murals. John is a trompe l'oeil artist (trick of the eye) meaning he paints incredibly realistic scenes that delude the viewer into a seeing a 3D scene painted on a flat surface. "They say 'wow did you see that . I thought that was real'," said John, from California who works on a large scale on public and residential areas. "These life-size illusions allow me to communicate with a very large audience. "It seems almost universal that people take delight in being visually tricked." John's works can be seen all over the world from New Zealand to Hawaii and each piece tells a story of the area they are positioned.

"Epicly Mundane" - Part II
Reimagining the most mundane objects as epic architecture. This time it's my laundry container. The "gate" is a piece of aluminium I found on the street a few days ago.
What do you think it looks like?
Lit with a flash with blue gel on the inside and my studio strobe from the outside.

This stair-ladder led to the attic of Stewart Hall, an exciting find! Although it was mostly empty, going to the attic revealed the epic architecture of the main hall area, which was sadly hidden by drop ceiling, of all things. Idiotic graffiti scrawling mars the wall.
The Empress is another epic, architectural beauty smack in the middle of downtown Victoria! Learn more about it here: www.VictoriaBC.ca/History/
