The fragrant water lily is an aquatic plant that is most easily recognized by its eye-catching, open bloom and uniquely-shaped leaves. It is a radially symmetrical flower displaying either white or pink petals. The flower looms above flat, heart-shaped, glossy green, floating leaves.

Born from mud and lived among the trees - when the rains came amd washed our souls. It was the trees that gave us life, lifting us from the rivers of mud and soil.

Tinkinswood Burial Chamber

Tinkinswood's burial chamber was built around 4000 BC in a small valley (near Barry) in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. Excavated in 1914 and has a capstone estimated to weight over 40 tons - one of the heaviest of all British sites. It is thought that it would have needed 200 people to move it.

The chamber contained the bodies of at least 50 people, 8 children amongst them. Items found during excavation suggest that the chamber was used until 2000 B.C.

A typical general store from the south Wales industrial valleys. The shop is divided into three sections, on two floors, and includes ironmongery and grocery displays. In 1880 William Llewellyn developed his grocery business by building this shop. The original building was just the central section, flanked by the storeroom and Llewellyn's house.

Something a little different. Taken during our last visit to Dreamland, Margate.

This tiny two-roomed building, built of brick in 1936, is claimed to be the smallest free-standing post office in Wales. It was built by Evan Isaac, a local stonemason, and his cousin David Williams, a carpenter, and was run by Mr Isaac's daughter and her husband, who also operated the village pub, which stood across the road. The mail was delivered from Whitland, the local town, and was sorted here by Mrs Beatrice Griffiths who would then deliver it by bicycle to the surrounding farms and cottages, a journey of eight miles every day. The post office counter was located in the main room, whilst the second room (with fireplace) served as a wireless repair workshop. The business was moved to a nearby bungalow in 1963 and the building was moved to the museum in 1992 where it has been refurbished as it would have looked during the Second World War.

Now in 2022 looking back 40 years how the trucking industry has grown an changed over the years.

Here is an old photo of me around 1982 at about the age of 25, where I worked for 25 years for Sidney Freight Ltd. Est. in 1919. The company grew to one of the largest freight companies in BC while I grew in experience working there.

Photo taken at Sidney Freight’s main terminal at 2050 Mills Rd W, Sidney, BC now the Van-Kam Freightways Ltd terminal. I just completed my pre-trip on the set of joints (A-Train) that I was hauling to Sidney Freight’s Vancouver terminal, Via. BC Ferries Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen.

Unit was a short wheel base tandem MACK with a 350hp Cummins and a 13 Speed Fuller Transmission (Big Power Back Then) with two 26’ Pup, trailers connected with the A-converter. The idea was to maximise freight product (increase freight) movement to and from the Island while reducing cost in transport as BC Ferries charged per foot in commercial.

Margam Castle is a large Victorian era country house, built in Margam, Port Talbot, Wales, for Christopher Rice Mansel Talbot (1803–1890). It was constructed over a ten-year period, from 1830 to 1840, on a site which had been occupied for some 4,000 years and which from the 11th century until the dissolution of the monasteries was an abbey.

Although called a "castle", the building is really a large comfortable country house, one of many "mock" castles built in the 19th century during the Gothic Revival.

After making a Grand Tour of Europe as a young man, Talbot returned to south Wales and from 1830 he set about redeveloping the family estate at Margam. The new castle was designed in a Tudor Gothic style by the architect Thomas Hopper (1776–1856), while Edward Haycock Snr (1790–1870) was supervisory architect and designed parts of the interior and exterior of the house, the stables, terraces and lodges. Talbot also took a keen interest in the project, encouraging his architects to borrow elements from Lacock Abbey in Wiltshire (ancestral home of the Talbots and home to his cousin William Henry Fox Talbot) and Melbury House in Dorset (home of his mother's family, the Fox-Strangeways, Earls of Ilchester).

William Henry Fox Talbot was a frequent visitor to Margam, and the castle featured as an image in some of his early photographic experiments. Margam's links with photography also include being the location of the earliest known Welsh photograph, a daguerreotype of the castle taken on 9 March 1841 by the Reverend Calvert Richard Jones.

After the death of Emily Charlotte Talbot, the daughter of its first owner, the castle passed to her nephew and continued to be used by the Talbot family until 1941, when it was sold. David Evans-Bevan, who bought it, found it too large to live in, but could not find any public organisation interested in taking it on, and it fell into disrepair. For many years it belonged to the local authority, but was not open to the public. In 1977, a fire caused substantial damage, and it was only after this that a restoration project began in earnest.

Today Margam Castle is a Grade I listed building and is in the care of Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council.

Margam Castle was visited by the television programme Most Haunted in its 2006 series and also by SyFy's Ghost Hunters International in 2010. It has become a very popular venue for paranormal investigation events groups. In 2013 the Margam Ghost Walk (which seeks to explain the stories of the reputed hauntings but which does not undertake paranormal investigation) became the most popular attraction in the Neath Port Talbot authority area, according to the review website Tripadvisor.
