Back with the answer to the enquiry of "Where the Wild Lights Are" project, another one from the road back from Berlin to Storkow, this was a tricky and somewhat illegal (well, one would say more naughty than law breaking) shot to take, over a 21 second BULB exposure, utilising the wing mirror attachment as a resting point, both hands on the camera, with the additional hand grip, whilst Vera drove side to side from lane to lane, on a clear road with the exception of the truck ahead of us with red lights all over it. The result was almost a carousel looking light effect and we both love it!
It's great fun when two lover's beholden to our knowledge can merge our skills and go wild with it!

Sorry I'm a bit erratic with posts & comments. That's what more pothole enquiries than we've ever had and 50% staffing levels does for you! We typically repair about 40,000 potholes per year where I work but last financial year it was 120,000!! So if you hit one please don't swear at the poor highway people as their budgets have been cut a lot since 2010 whatever your MP may tell you. I certainly had to really concentrate on the road between Portree and just north of Staffin, there were some craters! Rant over!
The shot above was taken as I had started to walk back down from The Old Man of Storr. I liked the way the clouds were flowing up and over the land and the effect of the white coat Skye was wearing. Not a portfolio image (do I have any worthy? 😂) but one I liked and thought I'd post. I had hoped to be in bed sleeping off a 3am shooting the Milky way but the forecast deteriorated and didn't feel like risking a 90min drive to get to site for about 2am so am posting this instead Lightweight aren't I ?!!

"The work of Berlin-based artist Alicja Kwade repeatedly explores a transferral of scientific questioning into artistic concepts. Her exhibition ENTITAS offers poetic, intuitively comprehensible responses to the conundrum of what transpires in the invisible plenums of knowledge; what is it that happens between two blinks of an eye, between two glances?
Kwade’s exhibition title ENTITAS (Latin: entity) alludes to enquiries about the essence of things: what is the world made of? And further even: what information is available for us to attempt an answer to this question?
Extending into the space of the room, the installation “Die bewegte Leere des Moments” [The Moving Emptiness of the Moment] is central to the exhibition. It was created for Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt in 2015 and consists of two objects—a colossal stone and a copper station clock—that orbit above the heads of the visitors; motion is rendered perceptible as a draft. Enhanced by loudspeakers, both the ticking of the clock and the sound of the stone cutting through the air are audible. Time is passing. The composition as a whole evokes the basic functions of human existence: heartbeat and breathing. The rising sun reveals ripples and texture at various scales in the Mesquite Dunes, Death Valley National Park, California.
A friend and I woke at 3:30 in the morning to observe the Milky Way and the darkness of the heavens in this relatively remote spot. It was fascinating watching the detail of the universe give way to the detail of our beautiful planet. Navigating the dunes in the nascent morning light, it was also interesting to observe the quantity of fresh Sidewinder marks in the sand. Thankfully, the Sidewinders appear more than capable of avoiding blundering hominids in the dark.

I have had a few enquiries on how the Cygnets are doing, as you can see they are doing well!
Since this photo was taken, Albert has had a territorial battle with a Cob, who resides four miles away along the canal. He came into Albert's territory and a fight took place. All his newly grown primary feathers have been broken close to the growing point and his tail feathers have been torn to shreds. He is a bit down in the dumps, but I think he will be alright!

There is evidence to indicate there was a settlement at Hamsey in Saxon times with King Athelstan having held a court of enquiry to settle local disputes, then called a Gemotte, in the year 925 at Ham near Lewes. A later family named 'de Say' owned the manor of Ham for 200 years and is thought to have given rise to the name of Hamsey for the village.
It is known from the records of the Domesday Book that there was a church at Hamsey at that time (1080). It is probable that in Saxon times there was a wooden church that was demolished and rebuilt in stone by the de Cheyney family that owned the lands at the time of the Domesday Book. The lands passed to the de Says by marriage in 1189. The church tower was added in the fourteenth century.
The parish now has two churches. Most of the houses of the old village have vanished over the years so a new church was built closer to the village houses in Offham that was consecrated in 1860. Fortunately in time the old church was restored and without modernisation in the 1920s. It has no electricity supply or heating. There are only monthy services in the summer and a candlelit carol service at Christmas.
The church stands in an isolated position between a loop of the River Ouse and a dismantled railway and is a Grade I listed building.
