from "Stray Birds" by Rabindranath Tagore

"Stray birds of summer come to my window

to sing and fly away.

And yellow leaves of autumn,

which have no songs,

flutter and fall there with a sigh.

O troupe of little vagrants of the world,

leave your footprints in my words.

It is the tears of the earth

that keep her smiles in bloom.....

If you shed tears when you miss the sun,

you also miss the stars. .....

Once we dreamt that we were strangers.

We wake up to find that we were dear to each other.

Sorrow is hushed into peace in my heart

like the evening among the silent trees."

So beautiful and in love. This nice couple was seen in a beautiful and romantic evening in Rio.

This is just to make soft your heart, just to make better your day.

***

I know that it's so sweet to love you ;

Bitter is to want you only for me ;

What I need is to remind me and see myself ;

Before having you and being yours ;

What did I want ? What I used to do? What else?

Something else I must love !

But what else I just don't know.

Bom dia.

Obrigado.

enjoy your day!

So much London stuff left from March this year... time flies! :(

This was initially one *VERY* misty morning, teaming up with Scott Wilson (check him out) around 6 'o' clock in the morning - I was already physically devastated in the first few days of my week in London. :)

This was a bit later on, when the sun came up and the mist started to fade, giving this peachy glow all over the place.

Nice mist in the morning but terrible harsh light and hazy horizons during the day - I hate it with a passion.

Went out to enjoy blue hour. Not a brilliant choice.

The Erasmusbrug (Erasmus bridge) - The Swan - is 25 years 'old'. I live exactly 25 years in Rotterdam right now - so I thought it would be nice to celebrate it with a visit. Nothing spectacular.

Oh yeah, the new tower in the back is 215 meters tall, a new Dutch Record. Happy shooting! :)

Leuk verhaal!

[English]

Weather alarm, code red and I decided to climb the Euromast, our local tourist trap (185m height). A terrifying experience, felt like being blown off the platform (at 96m), but a smashing sight with fantastic clouds and light at the same time. Really frightened and desperate to escape to the elevators, but I knew I *had to* shoot the whole fabulous sight and experience.

Glad I did, trending topic on Twitter today, even made it to the local weather news. "Best picture so far, this year" said Ed Aldus, the weather man. Too much honour, but it made it all worthwhile!

I have fond memories of our summer trip to Côte d'Opale, France. It was very relaxing, wandering along the coastline with my camera and ND110. Salut!

I wanted to go home, but the "Mission Space" ride pulled me towards the fairground. I shot it as part of an assignment for KMG Europe back in 2011, and at 80m height it's an impressive sight.

Pretty cool fact: KMG used my photo blown up to 6 meters (20 ft.) for an exhibition in London!

Hi folks,

7. Geniet van de sterren!

2nd "Mission Space" session. This is some sort of funfair panorama. :)

Do you know how hard it was to get a picture with all the rides in full fledge?

It took patience plus (long live) the bulb function on my camera. :)

This shot has a nice story to it.

When my younger brother died in a car crash back in 2011, I got an overwhelming warm response on Flickr. While I was in the process of dealing with it I got a remarkable heartwarming letter from Alexander Elzinga, a Dutchman living a quiet life with his wife for decades in the south of France. At the funeral I read part of his emphatic message to my family.

From where I live, the Ardeche is not around the corner. So we corresponded frequently, but I thought we'd probably never meet IRL (in real life). But... early 2014 we were planning our summer vacation, and my family agreed to go and explore the Ardeche!

On August 10, without prior notice, I knocked on his door in his tiny, tiny village Saint-Étienne-de-Boulogne. - Une grande réunion! - Hugs and smiles all over the place. Later that week we were warmly received for dinner with my whole family, and a hike around town. Plus we went out for an evening/night shoot over at the Pont d'Arc - which was a fantastic experience!

I'm far from a true (nature) landscaper, but there I was, standing in the river with my tripod, battling mosquitos, avoiding bats - oh wait, I *thought* I had to avoid them! Later on in the dark, *pitch* black, star trails, along a swirling river, waving our torches, unforgettable memories.

Merci Alexander, merci Dadou. Merci Flickr.

Two. Million. Views. It's amazing.

Thanks so much for viewing, faving and commenting on my work, the past 3,5 years - it's incredibly appreciated. Without exaggerating I wouldn't be where I was now, if it wasn't for the Flickr community, the feedback and the mutual inspiration and all that. I've met a whole bunch of amazing photographers around here who do smashing, inspirational stuff. Thank you all.

Oh btw, I'm hopeless. I know. For almost a year now I've been neglecting Flickr and most of my contacts here. That's terrible. My attention shifted towards other responsibilities, work and different social channels - most notably www.twitter.com/zzapback. Sorry for that, I'm not *really* showing my appreciation lately for what you all brought me, I'm afraid.

Win a large print

To make it up - a little! - I'm promising once again to come back to Flickr *cough* and be a bit more active over here AND... I'll throw in a large (60x45cm) high quality print of one of my most popular shots, and raffle it among the ones who favourite this post. Hope you like the idea?

Nifty clouds so I got my camera out, while on the bike from the south of Rotterdam to the north.

Nothing spectacular, plus a composition error (spot it) which occurred while levelling the images, gngh! Have a lovely day today.

Busy, busy, terribly busy with all the preparations - all fun though! Sorry for the neglect, I'll be back!

June 2012

Tired and not *very* inspired! It was a split second decision - jumping off the bike when entering the scene - to shoot it with a ND110 filter, just in time... 30 seconds. Have a nice weekend. :)

HEF experience

Website: Hef experience

This is just a fun shot, nothing *serious*. :)

Wereldhavendagen (World Port Days) and Monument day on the same day. For one euro you could visit the rooftop of the oldest skyscraper of Rotterdam. Terribly harsh light, flagpoles and flags, huge logos all over the place... I decided to stop shooting around them like everybody else was doing, hehe.

So I went for the in your face HDR look and feel (5 shots), with all the distortion and everything that's wrong with it... aah, like a breath of fresh air ;-) Enjoy!
