A fragment of board which came with some letterpress blocks (unfortunately the block itself was not with it) which seems to be a proof of a wood-engraving.
Ephemeral, undoubtedly, but the Malayalam figures make it exotic too.
Does anyone recognise the ten-legged spider-like creature, or the nine fruits/vegetables?
From the way the background hasn't been cleared in places it was intended to be stereotyped.
This image just looked nice but ordinary in colour. I felt that the black and white conversion made it look like an engraving. I love the textures and the lines in the tree stump that are repeated in the cat's coat. It was not the lovely little moggy that it looks but a spitting wildcat when you got too close.
A picture of my engraving bench in the house. This is separate from my workshop proper, largely to keep it clean and to encourage me to focus on what is essentially very detailed work.
Late example of the classic Wetzlar black paint M4 along with a very rare black paint v3 11817 50mm Summicron - anodised barrel, painted depth of field-grip ring, focus ring, f-stop ring. Different style engravings than the usual v3.
A while ago, you may remember, I found 7 double sided wood engraved blocks but never got around to printing them all. Well the ink was wet and there was some rice paper available so.... I have not rated this one, but, having printed it, it is now one of my favourites

Practising wood engraving on a bit of engraver's plastic - much cheaper than boxwood and less traumatic if it all goes a bit wrong! The leather sandbag makes things a lot easier when moving the wood/plastic about.
wood engraving by Charlton Nesbit (1775-1828), after a design by John Thurston (1774-1822)
For the 1800 edition of Robert Bloomfield's book 'The Farmers Boy' Nesbit was apprenticed to Thomas Bewick at the age of 14.
Page size 9" x 4"
The book, minus its boards was in a box getting soaked in the rain. For 50p it had to be rescued! You have to be impressed that he has engraved both names at the base at a height of 1mm.
A detail of one of several stunning engravings on slate by aboriginal artist Damien Karadada. These slates were some of the best of the treasures in the idiosyncratic and fascinating museum at Kalumburu mission.
There is no real method to my madness and I don't have the finesse required , I don't even know how I am going to do the mane yet, but..... what the hell.... you have to start somewhere ;-)
ps like my new sand bag, bigger than average but seems to work
