Training to make improved cooking stoves (type 3 pierre amàˆlioràˆ), designed to save wood. The materials used are clay, cow manure and straw. - - Amanagement des Fà™rets et Gestion de Terroirs du Wallo (phase II): GCP/SEN/044/NET. This project centres on forest and village territory management near the Senegal rivier, in the northern region of Senegal. Irrigated (rice) fields are widespread near the river, which has contributed to deforestation. With a participatory approach, the project stimulates villagers to formulate an integrated plan for the village territory and the adjoining remaining forest, taking into account agricultural, pastoral and forestry aspects. The project provides organizational and technical training. Dagana and Podor are two (of the four) departments in this project. The multi-purpose garden has become rather popular in villages of those deparments. The villagers, particularly groups of women and young men, lay out a garden, around which they plant trees for protection against the wind and the sun. All sorts of horticultural products that can improve local living conditions are grown in these plots, usually situated on the edge of the village. The characteristics of each garden depend on the local situation and the imagination of the persons in charge. Some even have bee-hives. A course on agrarian studies has been included in the school curriculum in Podor to explain the multi-purpose gardens in their village.(18802-18818).

Anjanaben, a 35-year-old dynamic woman, works as a government health worker in Ahmedabad. She makes Rs 1,500 per month, and joined the programme to increase her income. She was also eager to learn about energy savings.
Not only did the training programme help her increase her confidence in her communication and increase her earnings, but it also taught her that doing meaningful work can increase one's respect within the extended family.
Anjanaben used her first salary to buy a DVD player and a television for her husband, who since then has been proudly telling others in the community about his wife's achievements.

Transwestern Sustainability Services partnered with Eagleville Elementary Charter School on Nov. 1, 2013, for a Green Apple Day of Service community event. The Green Apple program, founded by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is designed to combine philanthropy, sustainability and education by making our schools a healthier, more sustainable learning environment for children.
Transwestern Sustainability Services brought together community volunteers to remove invasive plant species, educate the students about Jericho Creek, perform a waste audit in conjunction with Eagleville Elementary’s participation in Keep America Beautiful’s Recycle-BOWL competition and have the students become “Energy Detectives” to find ways to reduce energy consumption in their classrooms.
By the end of the training, these women – now trained energy conservators – were able to conduct energy audits, fill in pre-assessment forms, and advise household members on how to reduce their energy spendings. Poor families invested in cost-efficient energy products such as compact fluorescent lights and wood-cooking stoves.

Another major achievement of the programme was its impact on the twenty women who became energy conservators.
“It is very important to empower these women, as they are the leaders of their households. They are the ones that should have the decision-making power, which is unfortunately not always the case,” explains Pinalben Shah.
