an unwelcome return to winter after a hot but brief spring

I was able to endure the 20 degree cold just long enough to jump out of my car and quickly navigate the icy sidewalk to the park in order to grab a few shots yesterday. Then I hurried back down the icy sidewalk to the relief of my heated car! My fingers were still quite numb!

Love is…

Messy, when in the human form

Hard, when it feels like a tug-of-war

Deep, when the connection is genuine and on a soul level

Freeing, when given without requirement or expectation

Strong, when it endures seasons of change

Safe, when it is something to come home to

Joyful, when it is exciting and new

Humbling, when given generously to others

Gut-wrenching, when torn from your arms

Disappointing, when it falls short of your hopes

Reliable, when it remains steady through life’s ups and downs

Beautiful, when it embraces your imperfections

Real, when it stands by your side

Last shot of the weekend. Tide time worked in my favour, and nice to get the chance to give the 24mm tilt-shift a bit of a work-out on the type of location that drove me to buy it. One of the reasons for getting the lens was to de-risk front to back sharpness on long exposure images. Image stacking not being a great option for this type of work.

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.

In the harsh grasp of winter, when the icy winds cut through the air like unseen blades, the avian denizens of the natural realm engage in a relentless ballet of survival. Birds, those feathered sentinels, scrounge tirelessly for sustenance amidst the frozen landscape. Their quest for nourishment mirrors the primal instinct ingrained in all living creatures when faced with adversity. As these resilient beings flutter through the stark branches, pecking at morsels hidden beneath the snow, one cannot help but draw parallels to the human struggle for survival in the cold seasons of life. Like the avian foragers, we, too, embark on a quest for sustenance—whether it be physical, emotional, or spiritual—facing the biting winds of hardship with an unwavering determination to endure and thrive in the face of winter's unforgiving grasp.

Excerpt from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotte_World_Tower:

Lotte World Tower, is a 123-story, 555 m (1,821 ft) supertall skyscraper, located in Sincheon-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It is the sixth-tallest building in the world, the tallest in OECD countries, and also the first in South Korea to be over 100 stories tall.

It was the fourth-tallest in the world when completed in 2016. The tower opened to the public on April 3, 2017. Haeundae LCT The Sharp in Busan is the second-tallest building in the country.

A "Sky Bridge Tour" is located on the roof of Lotte World Tower at 541 m (1,775 ft), which is the total height of One World Trade Center in New York City, the tallest building in the United States.

On March 17, 2016, before the final phase of external construction, the Diagrid lantern-shaped roof structure was completed. The roof structure was constructed with steel counterparts that are each 12 m (39 ft) and weigh 20 tons. The counterparts were made up of bent metal panels that are 6 cm (2.4 in) thick. The roof structure itself is 120 m (390 ft) high and covers floors 107–123.

Approximately 3,000 tons of steel parts, a high-precision 64t tower crane and GPS alignment systems, as well as welding technicians, were used in the construction of the roof.

The roof structure is engineered to withstand its weight without reinforcing pillars, endure earthquakes up to a magnitude of 9 under the Richter magnitude scale, and winds up to 80 m/s (260 ft/s).

The exterior of pale-coloured glass draws inspiration from Korean ceramics and features accents of metal filigree.

Seoul Sky occupies the top seven levels. Floors 117–118 are the entrance and view floor, including a glass floor and sky show on 118. Sky Friends Cafe and the sky terrace are located on floors 119–120. Seoul Sky Cafe and a souvenir shop are on floors 121–122, and the premium lounge bar, 123 lounge, is on the top floor at 499 m (1,637 ft).

"Rest under a tree, feel the power of nature.

Enjoy the silence of today - and endure.

Review the year and accept thankfully the privilege that you can say for yourself, yes, we got through well - we are doing really well.

We live in peace and freedom, we don't have to freeze or starve.

And this despite these chaotic times when the war has come closer. The war that is rightly on everyone's lips. Which entails sanctions, which we all feel, as it were, and accept and advocate to a large extent in solidarity. However, a war that unfortunately also makes many completely forget that this war is not the only one that people always fight - and will fight - somewhere on this beautiful planet.

Rest under a tree, feel the power of nature.

Enjoy the silence of today - and endure.

And think of those who can’t enjoy the privilege of saying yes, we got through well.

With this in mind, I wish everyone a peaceful Christmas..."

The foreground objects are kelp. Some sticks of kelp seem to have become embedded in the stones of the beach. Not placed by me, but I decided to make use of them in the foreground. No doubt they were washed in by a storm and will be washed away again before long.

Because of the long exposure (1.3 sec) the rushing waves caused movement in the kelp. There was no way of avoiding this and still getting the streaks made by the retreating surf.

Looking at how the kelp clung to the shingle of the beach and how the shark fin shaped rock endured the advancing tide made me think about how much endurance is a part of existence.

right after take-off we ran into a flock of pigeons...the sound of the impact of this one on the windshield was like a bullet !!....I had to endure this sight of blood and guts for the next 7 hours..also ruined the front photo possibilities !!

I finally got around to editing my shots from Anne's Beach at sunrise. It is one of my new favorite places to go, probably right under Jupiter:) It was a spectacular morning with a storm on one side and the sunrise on the other. I have become quite fascinated with dead trees and their shapes.

☀️Please let this be the thing you read today.☀️

For the first time in 11.5 years of creating imagery, I'm doing my first OPEN EDITION print sale. All profits go to National Angels, an organization dedicated to providing resources to foster kids and foster families. Prints are $45 USD each, and WHCC has given their support so that more money can go to this cause. Please share this widely and, if you need a reason, here are some reasons to buy one:

👉 Buy it to honor yourself as a strong pillar in someone's life.

👉 Buy it to honor a strong parental figure (mother, father, aunt, uncle, cousin, sister, brother, friend...someone who lifts you up).

👉 Buy it for your own child as a reminder of strength.

👉 Buy it to support kids in foster care, like my foster son, Jude.

👉 Share it to spread awareness about foster care - there are a terrible amount of kids in care with nowhere safe to go.

👉 The sale will only be open for 3 DAYS.

👉 It will be a very, very, very long time before I do something like this again.

I said goodbye to my foster son 11 days ago. As I huddled, sobbing when he drove away down the street for the last time, I felt great loss and great strength of conviction. I am a foster mother because I am prepared to take on the pain that I don't want children to feel. It hurts so much to lose him - he is everywhere - but I am stronger knowing that I gave him a new life.

Strong as a foster mother. What I learned in my 8 months of motherhood is that I am a pillar, a foundation, the strength of a hundred branches reaching out to steady, and the falling leaves, too, of being able to handle loss with grace. I am everything I need to be. I'm willing to bet you are, too.

Purchase this 10x10 inch fine art print and all profits go to aid kids in foster care.
