Vertigo - and minimalism - looking down from a friend's balcony. If the driver of the blue car had any sense of symmetry he would have parked one space to the right. But the off-centre car is somehow the equivalent of those mismatched flower beds - actually shrub beds - giving the image a lopsidedness that appeals to me.

More glimpses of urban environments to come. None are recent. I do enjoy looking back, though...

On 7 January 2026, the Netherlands lies beneath a thick blanket of snow. Code Orange is in effect, and its impact is felt everywhere: flights are cancelled, trains and buses barely run, and the daily rhythm slows to a crawl. Streets blur into white lines, appointments vanish from calendars, and the country is forced to shift down a gear. Yet this weather also brings something rare. Silence. Slowness. A city that pauses to breathe. Normally, the centre of Amsterdam is always just a little warmer. Surrounded by buildings, crowds, and urban heat, snow rarely lasts here — it turns wet, grey, and disappears. But not today. On the Noordermarkt, beside the Noorderkerk, snow falls without pause. Large, soft flakes drift down and settle on the open square, between the trees and along the paths where market stalls usually stand. The market is empty. No stalls, no chatter — only space. The square slowly transforms into a quiet, white field. The surrounding façades fade into the snowy veil, while the Noorderkerk remains standing like a calm anchor — sober, steady, and unmoved. Snow brings inconvenience, without a doubt. But it also connects. It brings everything to a halt and, at the same time, opens space for wonder. And on this winter’s day, the white remains — right in the heart of the Jordaan, in Mokum. A rare moment. And precisely for that reason, so special.

A quiet winter scene on the Noordermarkt in Amsterdam, beside the Noorderkerk, captured during heavy snowfall on 7 January 2026. The usually lively square is covered in fresh snow, transformed into a calm, almost timeless landscape in the heart of the Jordaan.

Stilte. Vertraging.

In the 1970s, these old buildings housed a pioneering foundry. This was where the first all-magnesium motorbike wheels were made and later the first hollow-spoke wheels. At the end of the 1980s the company moved to larger premises and became a world leader in the manufacture of these products. Since 2000 the company has been under the control of Brembo.

TIme for a flickr break.

Seems like a good time to say thanks to friends, contacts and regular visitors for all the support, feedback, advice and copious amounts of inspiration over the past year.

It's always appreciated.
