I'll be taking a short break this week.

Our internet and landline phone provider (BT) have suddenly told us we have a 2-day process of completely replacing our existing set-up (that works just fine) with a new one.

Like the rice bowl here it looks/sounds simple … but it might be full or it might be empty promises!!

We have had no choice, and no information as to how the "upgrade" is to be accomplished. Currently we are trying to find things out before we are cut off! But given this sudden arbitrary demand, I don't feel sanguine about the process at all!

So I hope we will be back online soon … but it all depends on British Telecom!

Just in case you thought that your lazy Sunday afternoon nap had ended up transporting you through some wormhole in space. They are just bright red berries, is all. Bright enough and red enough for Scarlet Sunday, into which they shall sneak with but an hour or so of Sunday remaining.

Have you been a good boy or girl or dino?

“But today I want to focus on the North of England. So let me be very clear. There is a hard truth we need to address. The cities of the North are individually strong, but collectively not strong enough. The whole is less than the sum of its parts.

So the powerhouse of London dominates more and more.

And that’s not healthy for our economy. It’s not good for our country. We need a Northern Powerhouse too. Not one city, but a collection of northern cities- sufficiently close to each other that combined they can take on the world”

George Osborne quoted from his speech on the 23rd June 2014 at the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) in Manchester. www.gov.uk/government/speeches/chancellor-we-need-a-northern-powerhouse

The Northern Powerhouse was a proposal to boost economic growth in the North of England by the 2010–15 coalition government and 2015–2016 Conservative government in the United Kingdom, particularly in the "Core Cities" of Hull, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield and Newcastle. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Powerhouse

Critics say the Northern Powerhouse was more of a “Poorhouse” than a Powerhouse and yet another example of empty Southern promises from a metrocentric government with a disproportionate focus on London and the South East. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poorhouse

George Osborne (born 1971) is a former British politician and newspaper editor who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2010 to 2016 and as First Secretary of State from 2015 to 2016 in the Cameron government.
