Light and shade are fundamental elements of photography, as they play a crucial role in creating depth, contrast, and mood in an image. In photography, light refers to the amount and quality of light that falls on a subject, while shade refers to areas of the image that are not directly illuminated by the light source.
The interplay between light and shade can create dramatic effects in a photograph, from high contrast black and white images to softly lit portraits with a range of subtle shades of gray. By manipulating the light source, photographers can create different moods and emotions in their images.
The direction and intensity of the light source can also affect the way the subject is perceived in the photograph. For example, direct light from above can create harsh shadows and highlight textures, while soft, diffused light can create a more even and flattering illumination.
In addition to natural light, photographers can also use artificial light sources such as strobes, continuous lights, and reflectors to control the light and shade in their images. By understanding the basics of light and shade, photographers can create images that are not only technically proficient but also visually striking and emotionally engaging.

There are times in our lives that are harder than others. Physically, emotionally, what have you, we each have our times where everything isn't as great as we would like them to be.
However, like my tattoo says "Focus on the good and the good will come into focus"
I would like to thank call me Kiss for inspiring me to take a new Emotions in Black & White photo.
I met Kiss as I was cleaning out my exhibit at the Focus Gallery. We had a wonderful conversation. One that inspired me to get to taking a pic with emotions. It helped me center during a time where my confidence was waning, and my direction was veering off course.
I asked Kiss to give this photo a title. I love, “Turns out, I sometimes care more than I'd like.”

In Neenah, Wisconsin, 12 miles from our home, we like to walk the loop along the shore of Lake Winnebago at the day's end. At times the light on the water can be striking. I make images of things that move me emotionally. This scene fed my eyes, brain, and soul. Snap!

Everyone knows loss eventually. That is the nature of life. It is not forever. Some of the finest individuals seem to be taken far too soon. I recently lost a very dear relative to cancer. I found out almost a month later that our Flickr friend Amber Wild passed on the very same day of the exact same cause. We knew Amber had not been well, but you cannot imagine what a shock this was for me. I don't understand why such amazing souls have to suffer so long, then leave us so soon. It is so emotionally painful, but I want to believe that they are no longer suffering. They are in a better place now. This is dedicated to those who have lost loved ones. Much love to you all.
impressions from the part of our round trip that led us along the North fjords of Iceland. Around every corner, after each new fjord crossing or surrounding splendid new vistas opened to our eyes and sometimes I felt I couldn't take in anymore, it was just emotionally and sensorially overwhelming.

Nature's many moods and atmosphere's move me.
Being in nature, or even viewing scenes of nature (thank you photography), reduces anger, fear, and stress and increases pleasant feelings. Exposure to nature not only makes you feel better emotionally, it contributes to your physical wellbeing, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones. Like so many, I'm addicted to it.
I was stationed in Pearl Harbor while in the Navy. Was wonderful! However after several years I missed the many moods that mountains and the 4 seasons provide. As I hunt primarily in the Autumn much grand moodiness is to be found.

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.
When you figure out which one it is,
you will know what to do for each person.
When someone is in your life for a REASON,
it is usually to meet a need you have expressed.
They have come to assist you through a difficulty;
to provide you with guidance and support;
to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually.
They may seem like a godsend, and they are.
They are there for the reason you need them to be.
Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time,
this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.
Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away.
Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.
What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled; their work is done.
The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.
Some people come into your life for a SEASON,
because your turn has come to share, grow or learn.
They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh.

A dog’s enjoyment of the moment and his zest for the simplicity of life should be an inspiration to us. Medical science has proven that stroking a pet lowers heart rate and blood pressure. We know that but did you know that the tactile contact of petting a dog or cat can de-stress a human as well as a tranquilizer and with no harmful side effects?
So, if you are stressed, soak up a big dose of dog therapy! 🐾

The sun was setting and the sky was filled with pink, orange, blue and gray colors streaked from one end of the sky to the other. There were a vast sea behind, the sunlight was casting and reflecting above sea level, emotionally two drops of tears were running down, with no need of words, listening to the quiet ending sounds of a day.

For a good photo, your content is important. But, to be succeed on attracting viewers, it also has to resonate with your viewer. Catch the viewer’s attention visually and emotionally, create your work with emotion.
How to create emotion in a photograph?
Canadian photographer Mr. Spencer Cox described that light is a stronger tool to create emotion. Different qualities of light all carry their own emotions. For example, brightness, contrast, direction, and so on.
To complement your subject, control your light and tone in your photograph to create emotion.
He defined an example of using dark light:

I decided to create a story that went beyond a single frame, a short picture book, if you will. This is the first image from the series.

Yet, there is nothing forgettable about this breathtaking work. The collection, I believe, is filled with hope, light, and love, and it invites us to dream and create a brighter future. Im emotionally and mentally drained, there are no more tears to cry there is only a dull ache a neverending pain that weighs in my chest. ♥Ƒυℓℓ Ƈяє∂ιтѕ♥
One day this owl was found in my Green Leaf Thrashing Plant. She was injured badly. My pet-loving heart was broken to see her condition that's why I just adopted her quickly & brought to my flat to treat her medically, physically and above all emotionally. After few weeks she became stronger & healthy. Although I was pretty upset when I released her in a Central graveyard, Kushtia-7000. However, she finally got freedom. Now, my all-colorful vibrant memories with her are zipped in this photograph.
It is amazing how emotionally attached you can become when you follow and observe your local wildlife.
Over the last week or so we have been having some dramas with a family of Tawny Frogmouths.
On Wednesday Adrienne and I found a dead adult Tawny, the remaining parent was in the nesting tree with the chicks for a couple of days and then we had a couple of days of gale force winds.
For a couple of days it looked like one of the chicks had been abandoned as he was in the nest tree on his own, then he disappeared too. I honestly thought we may have lost the whole family.
So, there were tears of joy yesterday when I found the parent (Dad I think) and the two chicks in a different, but nearby tree.

Artisti di strada presso Apritiborgo - Campiglia Marittima (Livorno). --- Apritiborgo è un festival, che si svolge ogni anno ad Agosto, ricco di idee e di suggestioni, che accosta senza pudore il colto al popolare, la pancia e la mente, il dramma e il comico in un sovrapporsi continuo tra incantevoli squarci urbani, tra pietre che rimandano agli echi del secolare lavoro in miniera e riescono pure loro a raccontare storie, un festival così concepito come Apritiborgo/ABC Festival non è semplicemente una kermesse di spettacoli, ma la proposta di una prospettiva diversa, di un modo differente di osservare ciò che ci sta intorno, di un pensiero laterale che ci fa scoprire il davanti e il dietro delle cose e del mondo. Street artists at Apritiborgo - Campiglia Marittima (Livorno). --- Apritiborgo is a festival, which takes place every year in August, full of ideas and suggestions, combining without modesty the cultured at the popular, the belly and the mind, the drama and the comic in a continuous overlap between enchanting gashes urban, between stones that refer to the echoes of centuries-old mining work and also manage to tell stories, a festival conceived as Apritiborgo / ABC Festival is not simply a festival of shows, but the proposal of a different perspective, of a different way to observe what is around us, of a lateral thought that makes us discover the front and back of things and the world. It is a change of perspective on the way of living a city, it is a declaration of love towards sociality, towards the re-appropriation of human relations, of direct and corporeal language, of verbal confrontation, it is affirming that appearance is not the being and people of flesh and blood have little to do with virtual reality. How much music you can hear, how many body, mind and word acrobatics you can see and hear. Each theater will have a voice, and the public around the city can tune in to the scenario that gives them the most joy.

"Most striking of all Locarno’s sights is the Franciscan Santuario della Madonna del Sasso church (daily 6.30am–7pm), an impressive ochre vision floating above the town on a wooded crag – sasso means rock – and consecrated in 1487 on the spot where, seven years earlier, the Virgin had appeared to Brother Bartholomeo da Ivrea from the San Francesco monastery in the town. The twenty-minute walk up through the lush ravine of the Torrente Ramogno and past a handful of decaying shrines, is atmospheric enough in itself; or you could take the half-hourly funicular from just west of the station to Ticino’s greatest photo-op, looking down through the palms to the sunlit arcaded main front of the church and glittering blue lake behind.
Within the complex is a small museum of icons (Easter–Oct Sun–Fri 2–5pm; Fr.2.50), but the church sanctuary is the focus of all the pilgrims’ attention. On the way through the complex you’ll pass several striking terracotta sculpture groups of biblical scenes. The low, Baroque interior of the church features a number of paintings, two of which stand out: Bramartino’s emotionally charged Fuga in Egitto (Flight to Egypt, 1522) and local artist Antonio Ciseri’s Trasporto di Cristo al Sepolcro (1870). The statue of the Virgin on the high altar was sculpted for the church’s consecration by an unknown artist. By the doorway are dozens of votive offerings from pilgrims giving thanks for the intervention of Mary in their daily lives."

"Most striking of all Locarno’s sights is the Franciscan Santuario della Madonna del Sasso church (daily 6.30am–7pm), an impressive ochre vision floating above the town on a wooded crag – sasso means rock – and consecrated in 1487 on the spot where, seven years earlier, the Virgin had appeared to Brother Bartholomeo da Ivrea from the San Francesco monastery in the town. The twenty-minute walk up through the lush ravine of the Torrente Ramogno and past a handful of decaying shrines, is atmospheric enough in itself; or you could take the half-hourly funicular from just west of the station to Ticino’s greatest photo-op, looking down through the palms to the sunlit arcaded main front of the church and glittering blue lake behind.
Within the complex is a small museum of icons (Easter–Oct Sun–Fri 2–5pm; Fr.2.50), but the church sanctuary is the focus of all the pilgrims’ attention. On the way through the complex you’ll pass several striking terracotta sculpture groups of biblical scenes. The low, Baroque interior of the church features a number of paintings, two of which stand out: Bramartino’s emotionally charged Fuga in Egitto (Flight to Egypt, 1522) and local artist Antonio Ciseri’s Trasporto di Cristo al Sepolcro (1870). The statue of the Virgin on the high altar was sculpted for the church’s consecration by an unknown artist. By the doorway are dozens of votive offerings from pilgrims giving thanks for the intervention of Mary in their daily lives."

There’s no flailing, no belly flop—just grace, speed, and pinpoint accuracy as it snags fish near the surface like it’s playing claw machine with sushi.
In this scene, the male tern has just handed over a freshly caught fish, which in tern culture is the equivalent of a five-star dinner, and says, “I’m emotionally available.”
She accepts, eats the fish, and then breaks into a dance that looks suspiciously like a Cossack trying not to slip on seaweed. Meanwhile, he raises his wings like, “Boom. Behold these pectorals.” This works for terns.
I once gave someone a fish as a romantic gesture. It did not go well. I now have a couch with a permanent impression in the shape of my regret. Just go with chocolate and flowers. It's safer. And it doesn’t smell like trout.
