This is a greeting card that I made for a friend some years ago who needed some encouragement. I think we all could use some of that right now. Glad I took a picture of it before I sent it to her. HSoS!

(Smile on Saturday Group Theme: Postcards and Greeting Cards)

(For any stampers, this was my "recipe" for this card: I embossed several prints of the eagle using an eagle rubber stamp, black pigment ink, embossing powder, embossing heat gun and then cut out different parts of the eagle and layered them to give it a 3-D look (which unfortunately you cannot really detect from this photo of the card). I then embossed the scripture with gold embossing powder on vellum paper. The last step for the background, rather than use a rubber stamp was the result from experimenting with fusible webbing, gold embossing powder and the embossing heat gun.)

I made this card for the new Hero Arts Holiday Challenge contest. heroarts.com/blogs/club/2013/10/13/new-holiday-challenge/

I have chosen two categories, Deck the Cards and A Few of My Favourite Things.

I love to stamp and emboss and I was able to use some flower sequins I received in my mystery box I got in July.

Supplies CG215 Wreath of Leaves, CL343 Holiday Sayings, CH119 Flower Sequins, Pale Tomato Shadow Ink, H/A Gold Embossing pwd Brilliance Galaxy Gold Ink, Gold Stickles.

TFL

Made from watercolor paper, mounted onto a white reporter-fold card base. To make the background, I placed a piece of 140# cold-pressed watercolor paper on my non-stick craft sheet. Then I used a blending tool and foam to swirl on Dried Marigold, Spiced Marmalade, & Dusty Concord Distress Inks.

Next, I stamped Hero Arts G3316 Harlequin Pattern Block over top, using Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink. Then I stamped Hero Arts K5192 Dots over top of that with Tea Dye Distress Ink. Then I dripped water droplets onto the background and dried them with a heat tool.

Next I stamped the "thanks" definition from the Hero Arts CL479 Dictionary Greeting set using Rusty Hinge Distress Ink. I inked the stamp up a second time and misted it with water and stamped it again along the right edge.

I stamped Hero Arts H5261 Flourish Trio over the purple part using VersaMark watermark ink and then heat embossed with gold embossing powder. Then I stamped the "thanks so much" greeting from Hero Arts CL142 Thank You Messages using VersaMark and heat embossed with white embossing powder.

I used Fiskars Upper Crest border punch along the right edge and rounded the corners on the left side and the card base using a 1/4" Corner Chomper. Then I "edged" the watercolor panel with Rusty Hinge and Dusty Concord Distress Inks. Next I wrapped metallic gold cord around the watercolor panel and adhered it to the card base.

For the intaglio heart (see close-up here), I used a Fiskars heart punch to punch a heart from a cracker box. On the chipboard side of the punched heart, I covered it first with Dusty Concord Distress Ink. Then I applied a very thin layer of titanium white acrylic paint and allowed it to dry. The Dusty Concord ink mixed with the paint, making a lighter tint of purple for the background.

When the paint was dry, I again covered it with Dusty Concord Distress Ink and then heat embossed it with 5 layers of UTEE, adding Misty Lavender Pearl Ex powder to three of the layers. I coated my Flourish Trio stamp very well with VersaMark ink and then pressed the heart piece into it while the UTEE was still warm. After it cooled, I removed it from the stamp and adhered it to the card base using foam squares for dimension.

BTW - Made my own background paper - CFW "stemplate" with Tim Holtz Distress Inks. Seriously LOVE making my own backgrounds. Totally don't know why I buy so much patterned paper! : )

On this card I tried the resist technique wich Jennifer showed us in last wednesday's video.

Resubmitting for the Spring challenge! :-)

One of my friends has triplets that are about to turn one year old. So I decided to make a fun card in the shape of the number 1 for their birthday! This is the resulting card and matching envelope. There is just a bit of pale green dye sponged between the bunnies on the envelope to give that hint of grass!

When making this card, I selected a very thick patterned cardstock by BoBunny for the card base. And because the main part of the card is so narrow, I didn't want to add a lot of bulk to the front that would make it imbalanced and not stand up well for display. That's why I decided to keep things simple with paper piercing and embossing, and why I adhered the bunnies directly to the card without pop dots.

Materials used:

* A2 envelope (to hold 4.25" x 5.5" card)

* bone folder

* BoBunny Double Dot double-sided cardstock: Wasabi (green)

* cardstock: white

* chipboard from food product to make template

* EK Success Cutter Bee scissors

* Hero Arts CL139 Birthday Messages ("happy birthday")

* Hero Arts CL153 Happy Day Animals (bunnies)

* Hero Arts CL155 Playful Animals ("hip hip hooray")

* Marvy Uchida Clever Lever Giga punch (purple): 3" circle (when making template)

* mousepad

* needle

* Odorless mineral spirits (OMS) - Mona Lisa brand (Michael's)

* pencil

* Prismacolor Premier colored pencils

* Ranger Archival Ink (waterproof): jet black

* Ranger embossing powder: seafoam white

* ruler

* Tsukineko Memento Dew Drop (dye ink): new sprout (pale green)

* Tsukineko Sponge Daubers (I **love** these!)

* Tsukineko VersaMark watermark ink

Thanks for looking!

-------------------------------------

Edited to add:

The triplets were born on Easter Sunday last year (March 23rd) which is why I used the bunnies! :-)

You can download a template for this card from my blog, Gaal Creative.

I made this pop-up card using two sheets of 8.5" x 11" 140# cold pressed watercolor paper (Canson Montval). I cut the first sheet in half vertically. One side I used to make the back, and the hills and valleys to attach the other pieces. The other side I cut in half and used to make the waves.

I used the second piece in my printer, to print dolphins from Hero Arts Sea Life - Dolphins Digikit. I used Photoshop to size the dolphins and then I printed them on the watercolor paper. Next I applied Milled Lavender Distress Ink to the dolphins using a blending tool and foam over my non-stick craft sheet. Next, I cut them out.

Then I applied Dusty Concord Distress Ink along the top edge of each cut-out dolphin, and Weathered Wood (gray) along the bottom edge, using Tsukineko Sponge Daubers (Hero Arts MI002). Then I blended that in using the Milled Lavender on the blending tool. I spritzed both dolphins with a mixture of water and Ranger Perfect Pearls (in pearl) and let them dry. Then I added googly eyes for dimension.

To make the back, I masked off the area that would become the hills and valleys. I stamped Hero Arts S5146 Bold Flourish using VersaMark watermark ink (Hero Arts VC250). Then I embossed with Ranger seafoam white embossing powder and my Heat It craft tool.

Next I cut a piece of Eclipse mask tape larger than the Bold Flourish stamp and stuck it temporarily to my craft sheet. I stamped the Bold Flourish on top using VersaFine onyx black pigment ink and let it dry. Then I cut out the stamped image - leaving some white space around the edges - and used the negative piece (not stamped) to mask the top white area of the card.

I used Tumbled Glass, Faded Jeans, and Chipped Sapphire Distress Inks, applied with blending tool and foam and/or sponge daubers to color the area around the embossed flourish. I also stamped and embossed the flourish two more times on other pieces of watercolor paper, cut them out, and applied Distress Inks to make the rest of the waves. I spritzed all the wave layers with water and dried the droplets with my heat tool to get a splotchy watercolor effect.

Then I assembled the card. I attached both dolphins with foam tape, to give even more dimension. To finish it off, I added several Hero Arts CH181 Clear Gemstones.

Hello! This is a card that I made for my sweetie!

The heart has been cut out and adhered with pop dots for dimension. I colored in the flowers and the rest of the border using a glitter gel pen. It really shines in person!

I also used two colors of ink on the heart. The second color is applied just around the edges for a bit of vignetting. It is a bit hard to see in the photo, but it is there!

Resubmitting for "manly" week...

I made this card for a distinguished elder gentleman in my life. It combines traditionally masculine elements such as dark rich colors with not so traditional ones for some contrast that I like. He is also an artist, so I think he will especially appreciate all the elements and details.

For this card I first stamped with my Hero Arts woodgrain stamp and then embossed the snowflakes with clear embossingpowder. After that I distressed the background and stamped the deers.

Hi! I was so excited to read about Deloris' Catalog CASE challenge! It sounded like so much fun, and I had just acquired the Heart Flourish stamp and was dying to use it!

I selected the tag on page 71 of the Hero Arts 2009 catalog to CASE. The tag was made by Sally Traidman and features the Heart Flourish stamp. I started with Sally's tag as my inspiration, but I decided to change the colors and make the tag into a card. I love the pink and orange color combo of Worn Lipstick and Spiced Marmalade Distress Inks and decided to use that as my color theme.

Materials used:

* Avery pre-strung shipping tag: manilla

* cardstock: kraft

* chipboard circle, 1 3/4" diameter

* gemstones, large red (unknown brand)

* Hero Arts K5153 Heart Flourish

* Hero Arts CL288 Scallop Borders

* Hero Arts CL142 Thank You Messages

* Plaid Apple Barrel craft paint: 20219 Banana (yellow)

* Ranger Distress Ink: Worn Lipstick (pink) and Spiced Marmalade (orange)

* Ranger embossing powder: seafoam white

I was inspired to make this card after seeing Anette Hjerpaasen's fabulous One-Layer Hello Card that she sent to Dawn.

I used 140# watercolor paper as my card base, so it would still feel thick and luxurious, even though it is only one layer. I stamped Hero Arts S5146 Bold Flourish twice on the card front using VersaMark watermark ink and then heat embossed with Ranger seafoam white embossing powder.

Then I used Eclipse Tape to mask off the horizontal bands. I used Tsukineko sponge daubers to apply Distress Inks to each band. The top has Tumbled Glass and Faded Jeans. The middle has Dried Marigold and Rusty Hinge. And the bottom has Shabby Shutters and Peeled Paint. For each band, I applied the lighter color first, a single stripe of the darker color, and then blended that in with more of the lighter color to give the graduated effect.

I removed the masking. Then I stamped the "happy thoughts" sentiment from Hero Arts CL267 Card Messages using Ranger Archival Ink in jet black. Then I added three different sized pearls to the darker edge of each band from Hero Arts CH213 Sea Mixed Accents (blue), CH216 Sunshine Mixed Accents (orange), and CH214 Earth Mixed Accents (bronzy green).

To finish the card, I stamped and embossed the Bold Flourish design on the back of the card, too. (If you try this, be sure to lay the card out flat when you emboss, or you will heat the embossing on the front side and may stick it to your work surface or smudge the original embossing!)

Thanks for looking! :-)

Hello! This card was made using only two colors of Distress Ink: Spiced Marmalade (orange) and Broken China (blue). The other colors, like the green, are a result of the inks blending.

Materials used:

* cardstock: cream, aqua, and textured burnt orange

* Fadeless art board (like posterboard)

* Hero Arts K5153 Heart Flourish

* metallic elastic stretch cord

* Ranger Distress Ink: Spiced Marmalade (orange) and Broken China (blue)

* Ranger embossing powder: seafoam white

* Ranger Inkssentials Heat-It Craft Tool (heat gun)

* Ranger Inkssentials Mini-Mister

* Ranger Inkssentials Non-Stick Craft Sheet

In Greek mythology, Myrrha is the daughter of Cinyras king of Cyprus. Cinyras wants to get her daughter married, but Myrrha is secretly in love with her father. With the help of her servant, she gets in her father’s bed, and makes love to him a few nights. When the father discover the face of her aughter, he tries to kill her. Myrrha, now pregnant from her father escaped in the woods where she stays for 9 months. She prays for the Gods to punish her, banishing her from the living world as well as the Death’w world. The gods then decides to turn her into a tree. Some say that the myrrh coming out of the tree was her tears.

Myrrha gave birth to a son Adonis by a hole in the bark. Adonis then become a god symbolizes the revival of nature… like this tree that gave its body to become paper, an envelop of paper that travelled around the world before being turned into bark.

Anybody sees the beach??? It seems that we are caught in waters!!

This is the first time I've ever made a card in a shape other than an A2 sized rectangle. I've always wanted to, but never have - so I was really excited that this week's challenge was to make shaped cards!

I decided I wanted to make a scalloped circle card using acetate, but it was harder than I thought! My punch wouldn't cut through one layer of the acetate, much less two, so I had to use a piece of scrap paper to make a template, then trace it, and cut it out.

I make my own copper colored clay from Gold, Alizarin Crimson and Ultramarine blue Premo clay, Ranger copper and antique gold embossing powder. The resulting color is a really rich copper penny color with a rich patina darkened and aged just a bit by the embossing powder.

I added turquoise acrylic paint treated with copper embossing powder and baked, sanded and buffed.

I needed a variety of new colours to match the Kumihimo cords my Mom made. So got myself a selection of inks, herbs and spices and played !

I wrote down the recipe for each of them.

I sanded and buffed half of each bead so I have a matte and shiny example too.

2 February 2011

Upon typing my name into eBay's search field, I found many retro dolls with the name Kerry. I've never heard of them, but I went with the vintage feel and colors on some of their dresses for my layout.

I edited my photo to give it a vintage feel and picked some papers that matched. They are a little brighter than what I saw on eBay, but I'm okay with it.

In my gallery, you can see each page individually. Here I have digitally stitched my two pages together.

Journaling reads:

"Murphy is such an incredible little dude! His smile is infectious and that little laugh makes my heart sing! He has such a zest for life-he's fearless, carefree and determined. I want to be like this three year old when I grow up! He is a constant reminder to be happy! For such a little person, he has so much wisdom. I can't wait to watch him learn and grow. I know he'll continue to inspire me...and make me smile! :) 2 February 2011"

Hi there! I haven't made a scrapbook layout in a long time, so I new I wanted to create one for this week's challenge.

I really love Sarah's journal page showing her kids blowing out birthday candles. As soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to use it as my inspiration. I knew that it would work well with some pictures I recently took. They are from a walk in the woods my husband and I shared at a park near our home.

One of my favorite parts of Sarah's layout is the scalloped border all the way around the photo montage. But, I don't own Hero Arts CL288 Scallop Borders yet. (It's on my wishlist!) So, I used my Fiskars Threading Water border punch, instead.

Materials used:

* cardstock, textured: white, rust, blue, and green

* Fiskars Threading Water border punch

* Hero Arts CL123 Whimsical Alphabet (names)

* Hero Arts CL146 Travel Journal ("remember this" journal block)

* Hero Arts CL147 Favorite Journal ("a day in the life of")

* Marvy Uchida Clever Lever Mega punch (pink): 2 1/2" scalloped circle

* Marvy Uchida Clever Lever Super Jumbo punch (blue): 2" circle

* photo montage created in Photoshop and printed on photo paper

* Plaid All Night Media Pop Dots

* Ranger Archival Ink (waterproof): jet black

* Ranger embossing powder: seafoam white

* Tsukineko Memento Dew Drop (dye ink): potter's clay

* Tsukineko VersaMark watermark ink

UPDATE 3/5/09:

Someone asked about the dimensions of the photos in my scrapbook layout. The verticals are approximately 1 3/16" wide x 5 3/8" long ... and the bottom piece (for the page title or sentiment) is approximately 6 13/16" wide by 1 3/16" tall.

This is an example of some of the holiday cards that I made this year. They feature BoBunny Double Dot paper, stamping and embossing, and ribbon. For more information on how I made the cards, please visit my blog, Gaal Creative.

I have finally tried digi stuff. The background & owl are digital the rest is HA stamps. I made this card for Jacob, Eric's little brother. TFL

For Joanne's 'Green' Journal - I had to do a page inspired by the Emerald City. I used loads of inking, painting and embossing to create the backgrounds and the picture is from a vintage children's book.

Thanks for looking!

This card was inspired by this weeks CardPatterns design. 4.bp.blogspot.com/_VCdzh29cmaU/Sbssh3cPLdI/AAAAAAAABUI/Gh...

The birds' nest is a paper flower folded in half.

I thought I would resubmit this card for the Distress challenge this week. TFL

Embossing, Distress Ink and water, were used for this card. First i embossed the white cardstock with white embossingpowder. Then i added 4 colors of Distress Ink on my acrylic block, sprayed with water on the block, and then i stamped it on the paper. After drying, i stamped the "flowers" with a darker color of Distress ink. (Or take a look on the HA blog to see Shari´s video ;))
