In American architecture, painted ladies are Victorian and Edwardian houses and buildings repainted, starting in the 1960s, in three or more colors that embellish or enhance their architectural details.

Psalm 119:69 “Arrogant people smear my reputation with lies, but I observe Your precepts with all my heart.”

They met at the annual Ghosts and Goblins Halloween Ball.

He was handsome, charming and every bit a gentleman.

And she was literally a vision in her flowing gown designed by icm.

It was love at first fright and they sparkled with it.

They pledged each other their hearts and lived happily ever after.

Which for a ghost is a very long time.

Happy Shocktober.

A razorbill partially illuminated by a carnival of spring wildflowers and embellished by silver drops of rain. I might have romanticised that a bit but you know, I liked the shot!

I don't ever give a rat's ass about the official word of anything, Spring starts when the flowers start growing and the buds on the trees start to appear, that is Spring, to say otherwise is assuming one knows better than nature itself, when I hear this - the official start of Spring is such and such a date, I just laugh, walk in nature, she decides for herself when to appear in her own good time, sometimes enthusiastically early, other years fashionably late.

The Blue Grape Hyacinth, as tiny and delicate as they are, made an appearance in the front garden and I was thrilled, I love them, Spring is my favourite time of year, particularly May, but here we are in the middle of April, who cares when as a macro photographer's dream field is abundantly starting to arise.

I hope everyone is well and so as always, thank you! :)

The seed pod of a weedy variety of geranium, I can see why they multiply so well with their spring loaded seeds.

Worth a look in large if you have the time

It would be very easy to drive past Garton on the Wolds its a small settlement off the main road . It's worth stopping however to look inside its small church St Michael and All Angels.

This deceivingly stark honey-brown church perched upon a rise just to the south of the village, looking far out across the rolling Wolds uplands, the exterior may convey classic Norman, reflective of its existence at the time of Domesday Book, but the inside conceals an undiscovered gem.

Exposing the visitor to a unique sensory overload quite unlike any other parish church, the walls are covered with exquisite Pre-Raphaelite style paintings provoking an awe-inspiring experience from the glowing hues of reds, yellows, and orange decoration filling every inch from floor to ceiling.

This decoration was the product of a mammoth Victorian restoration project which occurred in the 1860s and 1870s, and was paid for by the second Sir Tatton Sykes of nearby Sledmere House—one of eighteen churches in East Yorkshire aided by the Sykes family—under the supervision of renowned architect, George Edmund Street.

The lavish embellishment was also augmented through carefully restoration by the London firm of Clayton and Bell, who occupied a leading place in stained-glass window design and manufacture

In the upper part of the town is the Romanesque church of San Martín de Tours, from the 12th century.

The church stands out for its simplicity, although its crypt is striking, a medieval space embellished by the play of light and comprising six free-standing columns and others attached to the wall with capitals decorated with heads and plant motifs.

Welcome to the Wilkins house. This quaint home painted baby blue and pink was once owned by a prominent businessman in the community. However today it has fallen into neglect and now considered endangered as the landmarks office is trying to find a quick buyer.

The house was built by John T. C. Wilkins in 1860. His son would later occupy and renovate the house in the 1890s. He would adapt this house to patterns used by George Barber, an architect from Tennessee. Barbers work was famous for including design features such as gingerbread trim, arches and balconies.

Sadly this property fell into serious neglect after being acquired by the town. It was purchased with the intent of demolition to make way for a new splash park and town well. This didn't sit well with many and the house continued to fall into disrepair. Staff from the local landmarks office took notice and worked with town officials to save this unique house from demolition. An agreement was finally made and now a preservation-minded person is being sourced to purchase the segment of the property with the house. The only catch is that the purchaser will be required to fully restore the house within two years of purchase. As of writing this post, this house is still on the market and has been for sale since 2021. Hopefully someone will save this fairy tale house before it meets an inevitable fate.

Gold trim on a Brown Shingle is definitely not ˆde rigueur"!

This is one of the most beautiful Renaissance stone residences in Rouen. This magnificent 16th-century mansion is located on Place de la Pucelle, in the historic centre of Rouen. It is a fine example of the Louis XII style, which is a transition between flamboyant Gothic and the style of the First French Renaissance. Its architecture is similar to that of the courthouse and the former finance office located on Place de la Cathédrale.

It was William II Rufus, Lord of Bourgtheroulde and member of the Exchequer of Normandy, who decided at the end of the 15th century to have a stone mansion built worthy of his rank. His son, William III, oversaw the continuation of the work and the embellishment of the building.

The main façade retains elements of Gothic art and mullioned windows. The salamander, emblem of Francis I, is in the centre.
