priceless are the words of wisdom i have heard from the beautiful women i have had the privilege of meeting along my journey. when in doubt, their words and stories remind me to embrace the present and know and believe that the road ahead is filled with great possibilities. i carry within me an elixir. from time to time it needs to be consumed in large doses, but more often than not i sip.

I couldn't decide which way the front needed to be oriented.

I'm on my way to the Slipper Room tonight anyway, and the story only gets better when I find out that some members of the Alpha Psi Ecdysia burlesque group out of SUNY New Paltz are performing.

Miss Elixir is a blur of motion: she whirls chains as she dances, whipping the links around in bright whirls and snapping them smartly against the stage floor.

This is my first time seeing her with the group, and afterward we talk a bit. I allow that it's tricky getting low-light pictures of someone so, well, whirly. She wishes me luck with the processing; I think we do all right.

Semicolons. I never really understood them, but I always liked them. You can use a semicolon as a soft period, because by using a semi colon as a period between two sentences, you show that those two sentences have a closer relationship to each other than they do to the sentences around them. I guess in a way, you’re my semicolon conjoined sentence.

The caipirinha is a delightful cocktail from Brazil. As easy to drink as it is to make:

Place six wedges of lime in a mixing glass, add a tablespoon and a half of sugar.

Muddle well, until all the sugar is dissolved.

Fill the mixing glass with ice and add 3 ounces of cachaça.

Shake well and strain into a rocks glass filled with crushed ice.

Enjoy.

My first forays into macro photography... I recently purchased a Nikon 105mm VR and just love it!

This is a shot of the famous (or maybe not so famous) Elixir al Borducan. A special tipple from the AL Borducan Hotel (hotel website) in Sacro Monte di Varese (photos here and here). I stayed at the Al Borducan while I was working in Italy and I have to say it is one of the friendliest hotels I've ever been to, the couple that runs the hotel are just wonderful and its location in Sacro Monte di Varese is really hard to beat. I highly recommend a stay at this hotel, or just stop by for the wonderful food and great wine.

History of the Elixir (Source: www.borducan.com))

Elixir at Borducan is the liquor of Sacro Monte based on extract of orange and potherbs which was invented by Davide Bregonzio , a fighter under Garibaldi in 1872.

Its recipe has come down to us thanks to the tradition from father to son. Davide Bregonzio’s story is legendary: he fought at Marsala among the expedition of the One Thousand, wearing his red shirt in 1860, but he was from Varese by birth and an expert herbalist who produced a distillate called “ Ten herbs from Campo dei Fiori” at first.

During a travel to Algery he could appreciate the local oranges and when he came back to Varese he decided to invent a new liquor, The Borducan elixir, whose name meaning “orange” comes from the Arabian exotic places. In 1872 “Caffè at Borducan” was opened in the very heart of Santa Maria del Monte” village and the recipe became quickly successful coming down from every family descendant to the last one: Bruno Bregonzio, who is Davide’s grandchild.

Davide distilled his elixir on his own until he died in the rooms of the newly restored hotel restaurant “At Borducan”
