This image was created from multiple exposures blended together in Photoshop CS6 layers using the "Lighten" blend mode. All exposures were taken with a single Paul C. Buff Einstein strobe with a 22" beauty dish attached to a Elinchrom boom arm and a 3-stop B&W ND filter attached to my lens. If you send me a FlickrMail message, I'll be more than happy to send you some information on mostly how I photograph this style and what equipment I use, along with some YouTube video links that help explain this process.

So, shortly after Hawaii, the great 1DMkIIN's hotshoe died a slow and erratic death. I'm about to send it back to Canon Canada in the hopes that they can repair it for me in fairly short order. Because of that, and the fact that we've been moving / crazy busy since then, I'm going through the B-Sides to catch up / get ahead in the project for a little bit. I might just break out the Panasonic LX5 + Strobez in the meantime...
I hummed and hawed for a long time between this one and the one that I wound up using from this night. Larz and I went up hollyburn for a photo shoot and although the snow conditions weren't particularly epic, the photo session was, and shredding down the trees with headlamps was an awesome experience.

After relying on speedlights for a long time, I finally decided that I 'needed' a small, battery powered, studio strobe. Early last year, I bought my first Quadra Hybrid. 6 months later, the second was delivered. And this week I got the third. Somewhere along this slippery path, I also got the HS trigger. Not only to do actual HS shots, but more so that I can use strobes with the EOS M3. Which has no 'exposure simulation off' option, leaving me with a black screen, when using strobes.
My 430EX's are for sale now.
