Elefanten am Wasserloch

Namibia 2014

(c) Ushan Gunasekera Photography

Desert adapted Elephants are found in only two locations in the world; in Mali and in the northern reaches of Namibia. In Namibia one can find them along the dried up riverbeds of the Kaololand and as here, in the Damaraland area.

In May, after the rains, the desert blooms for a short period of time and the elephants don't have to go far for a meal although the nearby river has already ceased to flow

Selous Game Reserve Tanzania

This guy has been bringing his elephant to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire for years. It used to upset me (I don't go to circuses for this reason) but a friend that worked there was telling me about the deep bond that they have and all he does to make that elephant happy and now I feel a bit better.

Elephants Tsavo East, Kenya

We spent an hour watching a herd of elephants wallowing in, what had become, a very muddy waterhole. Suddenly one sprayed mud over another, whether out of anger or kindness we would't know.

The beautiful sight of a huge African Elephant (Loxodonta africana africana) in Kruger National Park, South Africa.

There were elephants outside the reserve, too.

Seen at the Pinnawela elephant orphanage in Sri Lanka, these two elephants were preening and touching each other all the time... it must be love !

Amboseli National Park Kenya.

This beautiful young Pygmy Elephant had been tossing vegetation onto its head and was swishing its tail, I hope with joy. It certainly gave me great joy to see it.

Elephants crossing the plains

Elephant at the Cincinnati Zoo

Nearly got ran over by an elephant to snag this shot, I'm pretty sure she wasn't gonna let a man with a camera halt her progress. What a fantastic experience to be so close to these amazing creatures.

At a focal length of 37mm you can appreciate how close I was to get this shot.

Another one from my elephant shots. Think it's a quiet nice one, so I hope I don't bore you with my elephant pictures.

An oldie but goodie. Liked the way the light was hitting this.
