This particular custom repaint is a depiction of a flashback scene from the hit series, where the story is set in the year 1864 - the year Damon was turned into a vampire.
I use Tonner Doll Company's factory produced Damon Salvatore doll. The left-hand photo shows the doll in its original factory state.
As with all my creations, I completely strip the original factory paint on each of the dolls, and completely repaint the facial features in, paying attention to accuracy of likeness and lifelike expressions. The doll also underwent extensive hair rework for authenticity and to match the proportions of the face.
Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area . Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise.

Ok, I loved this picture... the color of the sky is beautiful and I finally found a large enough picture to work with. The only real photoshopping I did was to get rid of the crow that was perched on her knee... because well... they dont really use it too much in the show so far (even though it was one of the main reasons why Damon got around so much in the story =/)... easy peasy to get that out, the joys of the clone stamp tool!

La Crèche is an artistic and curatorial collaboration between Playground Berlin and Kunstraum Richard Sorge at the 7th Berliner Kunstsalon Art Fair, October 5-10, 2010.
It is a favela-style pavilion for experiencing art, as well as a playful architectural art installation in itself. It aims to show art in a collaborative environment rather than the white cube. La Crèche is built solely from discarded recycled materials. Irregular and surreal, it hosts 2D and 3D works as well as video, performance and installations that integrate organically into its structure.
