Here is the nixie driver printed circuit board after having been bathed in etchant. The dark bits that remain are the copper circuit traces, though they don't look like copper in this shot because they still have laser printer toner stuck to them. I'll scrub that off later.
Here you can see the traces on the other side of the board through the thin epoxy. The tricky bit with making double-sided boards is to get the two sides to line up properly, and I ended up misaligning them just a tich. It should be close enough to work, though.
It's occured to me that electronics would be a horrible hobby for young children. Involving, as it does, toxic and caustic chemicals, lead, hot irons, tiny sharp bits of metal, power tools, and (depending on your project) high voltage.

I was all excited to get tinkering but couldn't locate my breadboard, which was last seen when I was in college, so with my fingers crossed I headed to Radio Shack. I was pretty sure they would be useless, but not only did they have a selection of breadboards, but also they also had Arduinos in stock. I am amazed.
