The 'Heart' of my Favorite Toy...
This engine is a 1970 Pontiac 455, currently displacing 467 cubic inches (7.7 liters). My brother, Tom, and I built this beast from the ground up with carefully selected parts to not only optimize performance and durability, but also to be able to run it on pump gas as opposed to racing fuel. The transmission is a highly modified 700R4, 4-speed overdrive automatic that we also built from scratch with every heavy duty performance part we could put in it. The most unique thing about this set up is the custom made, completely home-built, port fuel injection system run by a Megasquirt II v. 3.0 ECU (translation: electronic fuel injection controller). All air and fuel settings, plus ignition and timing, are controlled electronically. We tune it with a laptop computer while driving down the road! This engine is a blend of old-school brute horsepower with modern day engine control electronics. It purrs like a kitten and roars like a tiger! - Phoenix, Arizona
