I took this in November as a response to the election of Trump. It represents my fear of the time, one which hasn't exactly abated.
What can one say?
- No interchangeable lenses
- No view through the lens
- Aperture-priority only
But...a very, very fun camera to shoot with! The built-in f1.7 45mm Yashinon lens produces excellent photos, and the rangefinder remains bright and easy to use since this camera was born in the early 1970s.
I did have to replace the "pad of death" (a rubber damper under the top cover which decays over time) but it was relatively easy with tweezers and glue. Repair to the Copal Electric leaf shutter was more difficult and time-consuming. There are web resources out there for repair of both parts, but I would suggest getting a used Electro with the shutter still in working condition.
Digital photo taken with Pentax K-70.
Photo Frenzy... I got the idea in my head at 10:30 PM to blow a roll of film in the basement. 5 minutes later I had shot these 16 shots. Two hours later, they're on flickr. I am hooked on home development.
1970's Yashica Electro 35 GSN with Yashinon 1.7/45mm on Fomapan 400 (expired 2012) at EI200 in PC-Glycol 1+50 (5 g/L carbonate, 2 g/L KBr) for 8 mins @ 20C.
Another shot from my recent test roll while experimenting with PC-Glycol again. This is a re-make of a previous selfie that I took, but I think this one is better.
In the process of loading up this roll of Fomapan 400, I finally loaded cassettes with all the rest of the 100ft spool. From what was left I now have about a dozen rolls ready to shoot. It's very expired, but seems to only show a few defects. I rated in at EI200 due to age and lack of proper storage.
Ah, balloons I thought. They'll make a nice photo. Did I think that the big ganch Julian Simmons would walk into it? No indeed. But there you go.
(Julian, if you're reading - sorry, but you are!)
For those of you not misfortunate enough to come from Northern Ireland, big Julian is a local "celebrity"
