For the Macro Monday challenge "bathroom" (November 30th 2020)
Part of the regular daily routine is to reach for my electric toothbrush. Such an improvement on my ordinary toothbrushes. Gentle and soft, regular or polish - I can select from 5 or 6 heads, to suit my needs! And I even have an app on my iPhone to time myself! So it satisfies the geek in me as well as my dentist ;o)
This shot is of the small tray that holds 4 brush heads, and is part of the toothbrush assembly. (size guide in the first comment field)

For this project, I chose to take a macro/close-up picture of the bristles on an electric toothbrush head. As I do not have an actual macro lens, I combined my Canon kit lens with +1, +2, +4 diopters and 10x macro filter stacked in addition to a 2.0 teleconverter. This setup allowed for the brush head to be less than an inch from the lens and gave me a very narrow depth of focus making the “in between” white bristles in focus and the outside blue bristles out of focus only a fraction of an inch farther away.

I wanted the toothbrush in motion. It was a lot harder than I expected as most of the time the photos just looked blurred. I tried different shutter and apertures and different flash settings and position. This was the best. It's got movement but without being told I'm not sure you'd know.

christmas 1983 - check out all my classic 80s kid presents! this was a couple weeks before my 2nd birthday.
i'm sure this was probably the first year i had my stocking (which my grandma made). my name wasn't even on it yet!

Every night before retiring this is my routine. I floss, then I brush with my sulcabrush. Then, I use my electric toothbrush and then rinse with my mouthwash. It might seem like a lot and not very glamorous, but at my recent dentist visit the hygienist told me my teeth were extremely clean and I must be doing something right. I told her what I did and she said that it was an excellent routine.

One of the things about coming home is you get to sort through your mountain of gifts!
I now have a dentist in my family, and it seems entirely appropriate that she plumped for a his and hers electric toothbrush system. It seems very flash, as it has a little remote unit telling you when you move on to the next bit of your mouth.
I've never actually joined the world of electric toothbrushes before, so I'm sure it will be a great adventure. :)

My old electric toothbrush, which my wife bought in 2000, has stopped working so I bought a new one today. The packaging took some removing. Happily I had my Swiss Army Knife to hand.
