OE43036 hit the road for the first time yesterday and word quickly got out that it was fitted with an LED blind display. Last night it formed the first “N”23 departure off Westbourne Park (cross linking from the day service) but only got as far as Paddington before needing engineering support to be sent out. This specific working only does 1 rounder on the night element, so once the issue was sorted, it ran short from here to Hyde Park Corner to pick up the return journey on time. It’s pictured on Praed Street, Paddington

On a bustling day in Dublin City Centre, a sleek Wrightbus Streetdeck double-decker bus navigates through D'Olier Street, proudly displaying its Route 9 destination sign: "Limekiln Avenue via City Centre." This particular bus, part of Dublin Bus's fleet, stands out as it's not the usual model assigned to this route, which typically sees older bus types. The Wrightbus Streetdeck, a modern marvel in public transportation, is a fully electric vehicle, contributing to Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann's commitment to sustainability. With zero-emission technology, this bus aligns with Ireland's broader environmental goals, reducing the carbon footprint of urban transport while offering a quieter, smoother ride for passengers. The Streetdeck's advanced battery system allows it to cover extensive routes without the need for frequent recharging, making it a reliable choice for busy city operations.
The Dublin Bus Route 9, connecting Charlestown in the north of the city to Limekiln Avenue in the south, is a vital artery for commuters traveling through the heart of Dublin. Passing through key landmarks like D'Olier Street, the route offers easy access to the city centre's commercial and cultural hubs, including Trinity College and the bustling shopping areas of Grafton Street. Operating with a frequency of approximately 15-20 minutes during peak hours, the service ensures that passengers can travel conveniently throughout the day. The first bus typically departs Charlestown around 5:30 AM, with the last service leaving the city centre close to 11:30 PM, catering to both early risers and late-night travelers. This reliable timetable, combined with the eco-friendly Wrightbus Streetdeck, makes Route 9 an essential and sustainable link for Dubliners navigating the vibrant capital.

On the sleek, eco-friendly Dublin Bus 123 zipping toward Marino, a rogue ice cream display has declared itself the star of the commute. Perched inexplicably near the driver’s cab, this glowing shrine of frozen treats taunts passengers with its frosty swirls of vanilla and chocolate. Every time the bus hums to a stop, the display’s neon sign flickers like it’s winking, whispering, “Forget your diet, Seamus, grab a cone!” Commuters, torn between their 9 a.m. meetings and the siren call of a 99 Flake, clutch their bus passes tighter, wondering if Marino’s got a secret ice cream paradise they’ve been sleeping on.
Meanwhile, the driver, a grizzled Dub with a heart of gold, is fed up with the display’s antics. “Bleedin’ thing’s brighter than me headlights,” he mutters, adjusting his cap as the electric bus glides silently through Drimnagh. Legend has it the ice cream case was meant for a corner shop but got loaded onto the 123 during a depot mix-up. Now it’s a mobile temptation, with kids pressing their noses against the glass and pensioners debating whether a sneaky cornetto counts as breakfast. The display, smug in its refrigerated glory, just hums along, knowing it’s the coolest thing on four wheels.
By the time the 123 hits Marino, the ice cream display has sparked a full-blown bus rebellion. A teenager in a tracksuit declares he’s skipping school to “liberate the Magnums,” while an office worker drafts a petition for Dublin Bus to make ice cream stops official. The electric bus, ever the silent accomplice, charges on, its zero-emission engine purring as if in on the joke. As passengers disembark, they cast longing glances at the untouched display, wondering if tomorrow’s commute might finally bring a lick of that forbidden frost. Spoiler: it won’t, but the 123’s ice cream dream will live on in Dublin lore.
