Driemond takes its name from three small rivers: De Gaasp, Het Gein and the Smal Weesp. The polders here are wet and lie lower than these rivers, so water has to be removed. In our times elecrical pumps are used, but also this mill is needed to keep these polders dry for farming. I have earlier posted a photo of its sluice (www.flickr.com/photos/87453322@N00/51139465367/in/photoli...).
Framed by these birches, the mill across the Gaasp's water is a pretty sight in any season.
Many thanks for all views, fav's - and particularly comments - all are greatly appreciated!
Happy Macro Mondays to you all!

Powerhouse @ Stave Lake
Stave Falls Dam is a dual-dam power complex on the Stave River in Stave Falls, British Columbia, Canada . The dam was completed in 1912 for the primary purpose of hydroelectric power production. To increase the capacity of Stave Lake, the dam was raised in 1925 and the Blind Slough Dam constructed in an adjacent watercourse 500 m (1,600 ft) to the north, which was the site of the eponymous Stave Falls. In 2000, the dam's powerhouse was replaced after a four-year upgrade. The powerhouse was once British Columbia's largest hydroelectric power source and is a National Historic Site of Canada.

The MV SHIRLEY is a charming little retired tugboat/towboat abandoned at anchor.
Her steel hull, during varying water levels tends to scrap against the muddy bottom of the channel.
Once upon a time, tugboat Shirley used to patrol the lake, gathering up floating logs and other debris.
Today, it drifts and sways romantically in the waters outside the abandoned Powerhouse.

I always enjoyed the H1 paint scheme on the ubiquitous Dash 9 series, but catching one leading was never a common sight in my experience.
You can still find the occasional one leading, so I guess this shot could be duplicated today, however, the background from here would look completely different as there's a whole housing development in the back there now...
Into deep twilight in the Tankwa Karoo National Park. De Zyfer cottage, from which the Augustyn family ranched for more than half a century, .centre of shot is an interesting place to spend a few nights. No elecricity except for one solar powered fridge - but, oh, the silence and the stars!
Northern Oklahoma near Ponca City. I previously shot this old house in 2013. It's in worse shape now.
There's a giant elecricity producing windmill going in a few hundred yards behind the house. You can see the crane thru the window on the right. North central Oklahoma is covered with them.
Previous shot below.
Mile 63,5 on The Great Miami River is the site of Dayton Power and Light's H.C. Hutchins Generator Station. Completed in the late 1940's, the plant provides 414 MW of power for Ohio users. The plant was decommissioned in 2015 and its 200 acre site sold for recreational development. What remains is the grid and the dam. Snags cover the top of the dam from one end to the other. Demolition and removal of the entire power station has been completed.

26 March 2017, less than a week before the closure of the 'Hoekse Lijn' between Rotterdam Central - Vlaardingen - Hoek van Holland Strand.
On this day we see the ex-NS 766 arriving into Hoek van Holland Strand. This EMU was one of the 3 heritage trains that ran between Rotterdam and Hoek van Holland that day.
On the 1st of April 2017 the line closed for regular rail traffic and was then converted for metro use.
After many delays, issues and extra bags of money the line was finally reopened on 30 September 2019. But only as far as Hoek van Holland Haven.
Hoek van Holland Strand still remains closed.

Johannesburg has been referred to as 'The Lightning Capital of the World!'. Certainly it is one of the very most lightning prone cities. It's every Johannesburg photographer's dream (I think!) to capture a dramatic, 'forked lightning' shot on camera! I was LUCKY! We had a MASSIVE elecrical storm this evening! I took this from my aprtment balcony. Though it was a dark night sky, the sheer power of the lightning bolts (and there were many!) lit up the night sky. Technique: I've posted all the EXIF data. I did not use a tripod, but rested the camera on a stable surface, used an 8 second exposure and a two second shutter delay.

Much of the land surrounding the Yare has shrunk to a level below that of the river. This is due to the constant removal of water from the marsh, originally performed by windpowered pumps (wind mills) but now done with elecrically powered pump stations.
I find this place irresistible in the autumn (fall) & try to visit at least once every year. The display of tree colour can be quite magical.
A slight disappointment to me was the veritable trickle of water on show. There is a nearby hydro-elecric power station which artificially alters the flow. I have been lucky enough to have seen the falls in full thunderous spate before; they truly leave an impression (as well as a headache!) when left to nature after heavy rainfall.
