Eilat, on the Gulf of Aqaba in the Red Sea, in August. White buildings in the distance belong to the Jordanian city of Aqaba, over which flies an enormous Jordanian flag. There are many things not to like about Eilat, but the snorkeling and scuba diving with Russian instructors among the dolphins was wonderful and made it all worthwhile. And I have to say the food in this restaurant was excellent, and it was a great place to observe the polka-dot-silk-shorts-wearing card-playing cigar-smoking leisured classes.
