This is the Shawal moon as seen on 10th September 2010 in Islamabad, Pakistan. I wiated it to be dark enough to take this shot as being of 2nd day, it stayed on to the sky line for quite a long time.

Eid Mubarak or Happy Eid ul Fitr to all.

Ketupat (not to be confused with Lontong) is a type of dumpling from Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines (where it is known by the name Patupat in Kapampangan. Puso in Cebuano, or Ta'mu in Tausug), made from rice that has been wrapped in a woven palm leaf pouch which is then boiled. As the rice cooks, the grains expand to fill the pouch and the rice becomes compressed. This method of cooking gives the ketupat its characteristic form and texture of a rice dumpling. Ketupat is usually eaten with rendang (a type of dry beef curry) or served as an accompaniment to satay. Ketupat is also traditionally served by Indonesians, Moros and Malays at open houses on festive occasions such as Idul Fitri (Hari Raya Aidilfitri). During Idul Fitri in Indonesia, ketupat is often served with chicken curry, accompanied with spicy soy powder. Among Filipinos, puso is also traditionally used as a pabaon or a mobile meal, traditionally brought by workers as a type of packed lunch, served with any selection of stews.
There are many varieties of ketupat, with two of the more common ones being ketupat nasi and ketupat pulut. Ketupat nasi is made from white rice and is wrapped in a square shape with coconut palm leaves while ketupat pulut is made from glutinous rice is usually wrapped in a triangular shape using the leaves of the fan palm (Licuala). Ketupat pulut is also called "ketupat daun palas" in Malaysia.
In Indonesia, ketupat sometimes boiled in thin coconut milk and spices to enhance the taste.

Eid-ul-Fitr is an annual celebration of the muslim community, and the people of Bangladesh prefer to celebrate the event with their close family at their hometown or village. Railways prove to be a popular form of transport, but the number of seats available don't do justice to the number of prospective passengers.

For those who don't know, these are my two nieces who's all grown up now -- Back in 2015
The one on the right also picked up photography and owns her own camera now. Reminds me of me when I was a teenager, she goes everywhere with her camera. Only thing is, she doesn't like the 50MM as much as I do haha. About 15 years ago, I was the photographer of the family. Always taking pictures of others, for keepsake and seldom have picture of my own but now its like I have my own personal photographer and I've turned into one of those aunties lol.
Good times. I love going through my feed and reminisces the good old days :-)

Eid ul-Fitr, Eid al-Fitr, Id-ul-Fitr, or Id al-Fitr (Arabic: عيد الفطر ‘Īdu l-Fiṭr), often abbreviated to Eid, is a three-day Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting (sawm). Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity," while Fiṭr means "original nature," implying the restoration of one's best human composition. The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the thirty days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan. The first day of Eid, therefore, falls on the first day of the month Shawwal.

My two-years old boy, Ben & my sister in-law, Belle. All smiles on hari Raya. It was just us -- My little family, my parents, my nieces & half of my siblings and we had wonderful raya :)
Week 5 of the 52 week challenge, I made an attempt to tell the story of Muslim holiday: Eid-al-Fitr.
After having fasted for the past month, which entailed eating only during night time, I thought it was interesting to juxtapose my family eating lunch against the afternoon light that was coming through the window.
Lets make this Eid the riot of colors...
Wishing you all a very happy blessed Eid. Hope you all will enjoy celebrating with your loved ones.
The happiest meaning of Eid ul Fitr will always stay for the kids. As the years go by, the context and meaning changes drastically.
