The pictures on this chart demonstrate the interior quality of broken-out eggs for each of the designated grades as specified in the U.S. standards with respect to white and yolk quality. Pictures 1, 2, and 3 represent the appearance of broken-out eggs of high, average, and low AA quality; 4, 5, and 6 represent high, average, and low A quality; and 7, 8, and 9 represent high, average, and low B quality. Summary of why the FSH and CCT tests are valuable for infertility treatment

What is the balance between egg number versus egg quality

Natural birth rates shows us what happens in nature. We physicians cannot change nature.

Data from counting eggs in ovaries shows that the egg numbers decline throughout a woman's life until they are gone

Ovarian Reserve Testing Overview: reproductive aging and how testing helps us understand the fertility potential of women

Female Age Reflected in Lab Tests: we can see how a woman's reproductive fertility declines in the lab that matches what we see in nature.

Lab tests correlate with egg number and age.

2008 study showing that FSH levels related to IVF outcomes. Importantly, there is a FSH level at which we stop seeing babies made - the "No-Go" level. Each clinic must determine it's no-go level.

Genetics cause miscarriages - mostly. This graphic shows the egg chromosomes and spindle in younger versus older women

Miscarriages rates go up with a woman's age. Data from many studies

The FSH level on d10 of the CCT when only the d10 value is abnormal. We find that 17% of the values are in the no-go-range and overall 21% would be abnormal in virtually any lab.

The number of eggs declines with age, data from an older study

Reason why we test for reproductive aging ovarian reserve

Why do we test for reproductive aging?

Ovarian Reserve Tests: FSH & CCT Title Slide for how to determine egg quality

Distribution of abnormal CCT values in the entire population based on the age of the woman.

How do we test fro reproductive aging and fertility status?

How the CCT process works

Egg number is not the same as egg quality but the terms are related

Why we believe that the CCT is of value. We find that 37% of abnormal FSH levels are only seen with the CCT versus a baseline FSH.

How do I find out about my egg reserve?

Being aware about your body and fertility

A typical sign is an inability to conceive. Be awake to the possibility of infertility, especially if you have crossed a year of trying for a baby.

Other signs may be,Amenorrhea (absence of one or more periods, not due to pregnancy) Menstrual Cycles (shorter than 21 days)

Miscarriages. If you have any of these symptoms and cannot conceive, it is time to talk to a fertility specialist.

How safe is the process of egg retrieval?

it is very safe and pain-free.

The process of retrieving eggs is the same as the first step of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and is performed under general anaesthesia. The woman receives a few hormone injections that produce multiple eggs. After a week or two of hormone injections, the eggs are retrieved. In the case of cryopreservation, eggs are thawed and follow the same procedure as that of routine IVF.
