Los Angeles

July 3, 1983

This is just some of the collection. I have some permanently on my board and three or four in constant rotation dependent on my mood. I didn't want to shut them away in a drawer as I also happen to like the way they look . . .yes, I know, I'm sad. :-)

The Hurricane was commissioned by me and built from scratch by an old RAF chum of my dad's.

Sing or Scream!

EBS ValveDrive offers the possibility for classic and traditional warm tube sounds up to hard and pure tube distortion. The EBS ValveDrive tube preamp/overdrive pedal can make your bass either glow or growl, whether you want your instrument to sing or scream. The EBS ValveDrive delivers everything, from classic tube warmth to hard and pure tube distortion. The design in steel, chrome and Bakelite is based on a classic concept with an easy dial-in design. See it in the Allied-Indies Store.

Here is another version of the Kay Fuzztone pedal. This time my customer wanted it in a regular enclosure instead of a wah-pedal style enclosure. I also added a volume control, an added gain stage for more output, and a switch to go from silicon to germanium diodes for a different clipping effect. I went simple with the external design but I love how it looks. Feel free to email if you'd like me to build one for you.

Roland really put a lot of effort into their booth (and I'm told this year it's far less impressive than usual).

See it in the Allied-Indies Store.

The EBS OctaBass analog octave divider creates a single note one octave below the pitch of the played note, adding a new dimension to your sound.

Intelligent Tracking: The incredibly fast tracking allows for rapid playing techniques. The pedal also recognizes two or three-note chords.

Sound Control to Major Tom, Sound Control, 7th February 2016.

This thing is pretty awesome. I looked on eBay and there was one listed with a Buy It Now of $695.

Here's a thing that's actually kind of humorous. This is my old Lowepro camera bag. No camera stuff to keep in it right now. Sold most of my expensive camera gear to get this company off the ground. BTW, I lived in Santa Rosa when I bought this bag and back when Lowepro was a local company. I'm told they've moved production out of the country now, so this is kind of a relic from my past. Still got mud on it from me rolling down the hill at Bernal Heights (I used to call it, "Venereal Heights"). Never could get the mud to come off.

Er, anyway...old man stories get sidetracked sometimes. Heh...I've been putting my home-built, "keepers" in here and planning a new pedalboard...eventually.

The yellow one at the back on the right is an MXR Distortion+ with an OPA2134 opamp, which was a really good mod. Thank you, Lionel. To its left is an Expandora built with old-school cans. The green one all the way to the left is a Brassmaster clone. In the middle is a CE-2 chorus clone. The black pedal is a clone of a Demeter Compulator. The blue on this side is a Mutron III clone and finally the black one on this side is a Rat clone using a vintage Motorola opamp.

The gold pedal all the way to the right is one of the old 2-footswitch Catalinbread Galileo pedals, not something I built.

Not sure how I accumulated this many, "keepers."

my new effects configuration. i replaced the old CS-2 compressor with a new MXR dyna comp. (thumbs up!) and i arranged my pedals in a way which left me room for ONE MORE PEDAL! so the flanger came back into the mix! SO GRAIGHT!

Fishman presented a surprise bass pedal, an octaver with lots of options and controls, a fantastic sounding pedal.

The Behringer UP300 (or UP100) has two trim pots inside at the top of the circuit board. The one on the left controls depth. If you’ve felt like you aren’t getting enough phase even with the external Depth control turned up, open your pedal up and turn that trimmer with a screwdriver. The trim pot on the right is where the fun is - it interacts with the rest of the controls to create new sounds unlike any other off the shelf phaser. Ringing, metallic washes, chirping, and self-oscillating destruction. You can set and forget it (or muzzle it again if these sounds are too much), drill a hole in the top of the pedal so you can adjust the trimmer with a screwdriver, or make the trim pot into a full size externally mounted control. Fun.

Musician kneels on stage while playing an electric guitar, focused on adjusting effects pedals. The atmosphere is lively, filled with lights and energy from the audience.

Traditionally a guitar effects maker, Empress' MultiDrive also sounds killer on bass thanks to a ton of tweekable parameters.
