Snow White and her Prince have now been fully deboxed. They are posed standing, supported by the built-in doll stands in the base of the display case.

This regular version of the Snow White and the Prince Disney Fairytale Designer Collection Doll Set has the same two base dolls as the D23 special edition dolls that I reviewed earlier. That is the dolls themselves are identical in every way (except for the serial numbers on the back of the Prince dolls). They also have outfits of almost identical designs, but made of different materials and with differing colors. So the dolls have different looks, especially the Snow Whites.

Snow White has the body of a 2012 Disney Store Classic Princess doll. That is, she has hard plastic legs, with hinged knee joints and ball jointed ankles. She is missing the usual manufacturer's marks printed on Disney limited edition dolls, including the part number and her edition size and serial number. She is also missing the twist waist joint of the previous Designer Princess and Designer Villain dolls. She has a pale complexion, the same as the 2012 Snow White, with whom she shares the same body. However, her neck joint has more freedom of movement, especially downward, and her painted on panties are deep golden yellow, much darker than the 2012 Snow White.

Her face mold appears to be the same as the 2012 and 2013 Classic Snow White, but with a considerably different face paint than either of them. She has large dark brown eyes that are glancing to her left, with four short thick lashes over each eye and four very short and thin lashes under each eye. Over her eyes is gold eyeshadow, and thin black eyebrows gently following the curve of her eyes. She also had short rooted eyelashes that are just barely curving upwards, and are even in length. She has a small button nose, a small mouth with blood red lips forming a charming open mouth smile. She has light pink rouge over most of her cheeks, and a round face with small chin. She is a very beautiful and faithful representation of the sweet and charming movie character.

Her hair is a considerable departure from the traditional short flip hairdo. Her jet black hair is parted to the left of her head, and pulled tightly over her head into a medium length braided ponytail that tapers down to a point and is secured by black rubberband, and is sewn to her collar on her right side. There is a small amount of hair product applied just above her forehead, to a thin strip of her hair. In my doll, that strip keeps on separating from the rest of her hair. I haven't been able to integrate it with the rest of her hair; perhaps I will have to apply more hair product to keep it place. There is a thin bright red satin ribbon around the top of her head that ends in a small bow at left side of her head.

Her outfit is a take on her traditional Princess gown. Her bodice and skirt are separate pieces. The bodice is dark blue velvet with gold piping and elaborate gold embroidery, and decorated with a bow made of metallic gold thread. The floral design is similar to the D23 doll, but differs in its details. She has puffy sleeves of the same dark blue velvet, with separate ribbons of bright red satin that float over the velvet. The sleeves have black lace cuffs decorated with gold hearts, and the oversized collar is pure white lace folded in a fan-like manner behind her neck and head. Her skirt is dark golden taffeta with gold embroidering incorporating fleur-de-lis, flowers and hearts. The embroidery in the skirt is identical to that of the D23 doll. The taffeta gives the skirt has a wrinkled, antique appearance. It has a thin pale tan satin lining. There are golden rhinestones scattered throughout the bodice and skirt of her dress. Under her dress is a floor length white satin slip with the lacey pattern at the hem showing below her skirt. It is sewn to her skirt at two spots at the hem, which I chose to leave alone for now. It is also sewn to the waist band of the skirt, so it is a permanent part of the skirt. She is wearing golden tan flat shoes (or slippers), the same as the D23 doll. It is a beautifully designed and beautifully made outfit that is a darker and more ornated version of the Princess outfit of the movie character.

The Prince appears to have the standard Disney Store Prince body, with articulation at the neck, shoulders, hinge jointed elbows, ball jointed hips, and internal knee joints with limited movement. His hands and feet are large, but his head is disproportionately small compared to Snow White. His face has a neutral expression, with small, narrow deep blue eyes, wide mouth and a straight nose. His molded dark brown hair looks okay. His face doesn't look that movie accurate to me; I actually prefer the playline Classic Prince. As with all Disney Prince dolls, he is sturdily built, and can free stand fairly stably. But for safe keeping, it is best to put him up in the included doll stand, which has a wide C-clamp that goes around his waist very snuggly.

The Prince's outfit is very well made and fitted to his body. It consists of a dark blue faux leather vest, a bright red velvet and satin cape with gold piping permanently attached at the shoulders of the vest, a dark blue faux leather belt with a gold metal buckle and a short black faux leather scabbard attached, white satin shirt, black pants and black boots with a worn look and creases. In the scabbard is a steel gray sword with a brown handle. The sword is thin and very flexible. It was slightly bent out of the box, but was easily bent back into shape. The D23 Prince's vest is much thicker, and feels much more like real leather than this Prince doll. But this Prince has an outfit that is much closer in color to the movie character. He looks great in his outfit, and very dashing, but I wish his expression had more emotion, and was more cheerful.

Fairytale Designer Ariel has been fully deboxed, and is posed free standing. Her dress and petticoat are stiff enough to allow to stand on her own, when her legs are slightly bent. Photographed in natural light.

Ariel is based on the 2013 Classic Ariel doll, but with the 2012 style fully articulated legs. Her face is glammed up, and has long slightly curved rooted eyelashes. I think she is the prettiest Ariel doll that Disney has produced. She has long curly flaming red hair. There was hair product to set the curls, but her hair was still fairly soft, especially in the straighter parts. There is a large blue ribbon in her hair, tied into a giant bow in the back. Her outfit was in four pieces: her blue satin skirt with gold embroidery and jewels, her corset-like blue velvet bodice also with gold embroidery and jewels, her white tulle petticoat, and her satin long sleeved blouse with lacy collar and cuffs. She is wearing dark blue flats, matching the color of her skirt. She has no edition number stampings, unlike Eric, but like the other Princesses in this series.

I just received my second Ariel and Eric Doll set, that I ordered online last Wednesday, October 16, 2013. It is #1145 of 6000. At first look, my new set looks almost perfect, with a Ariel in a better pose, her eyelashes more even, and the collar neater than in my #12 pre-ordered set. It almost seems a shame to debox the dolls, rather leaving them as is, but I need to free them from all the packing material, so they can be posed with other dolls, and when reboxed, be able to be viewed from all angles.

The Tiana and Naveen doll set with its protective cover sleeve.

I purchased the Tiana and Naveen Disney Fairytale Designer Doll Set at my local Disney Store, on its release day, Tuesday September 23, 2014. There were only five persons entered in the drawing, and the store had 15 sets to sell. I got my set and opened it up at the register to make sure everything looked good. They looked perfect to me. I took a quick photo, with permission from the CM. In better lighting, the gold embroidery in her dress was much more impressive than I remembered it from looking at the display dolls. I also looked at the back, and it was #4872 of 6000. That was a nice number to me, so I declined the offer from the CM to look at another set to see if it had a lower number. I will photograph the set boxed, during deboxing, and fully deboxed. I will also show the set next to other comparable dolls.

Naveen has been deboxed, and is placed lying down on a counter. His cape is fully extended.

Deboxing the Tiana and Naveen doll set. First its protective cover sleeve taken off. Then the acrylic top cover of the display case is removed. It is loosened from the tabs on the bottom of the case, then slowly slid off the cardboard backing. The dolls are now in clear view. They are attached to the backing and various plastic spacers. Next the backing is cut open, so that the dolls can be released from the backing. Then the dolls are freed from the backing, but are still attached to the display stand and plastic spacer. Then the dolls are freed from the spacer. The hardest part, as usual, was freeing Tiana's head from the spacer, by cutting the tiny plastic tabs embedded in the back of her head. The dolls are still attached to the doll stand. Tiana's dress is also pinned to the cardboard backing at the base of the display stand. Photographed in daylight.

My Designer Zarina Doll has been fully deboxed, and put back on the display stand. The slip cover and acrylic lid of the case have been removed, and the cardboard backing has been cut off the base, so we have a clear view of the doll from all angles.

Even though she is listed as 11'' H, she actually stands 11 1/2'' high on the display stand, the same as previous Disney Designer Princess dolls. She also has the same body construction as the original Designer Princess dolls, with ball jointed neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hip joints. She has rubber legs with internal hinge knee jointed knees, and fixed angled feet. She has the same face mold as the Classic Zarina doll and has a very similar look. The biggest difference between them is the shine, pearly textured skin on her face and body. Her face is shinier than the rest of her body.

Her outfit is based on that of her movie character in The Pirate Fairy, and with details in the product description below. Her navy blue coat is made to look like part of the sleeve of a British Royal Navy officer (the insignia is that of a Lieutenant). Her fairy wings are a single piece of transparent plastic that is tinted pale orange, and is iridescent. It looks like a butterfly with its wings slightly folded. It is sewn to the back of her coat. Her sword is secured to her right hand by a piece of clear plastic and a rubber band, that I left as it was done by the factory. It allows the sword to held at an angle, or straight, and hold the pose.

Her hair is similar in color and style to Classic Merida, even though the movie character has much straighter hair. It has a good bit of hair product to set the curls, which makes them stiff, but the rest of her hair (on the top of her head) is smooth and soft. She has long curvy eyelashes, with antennae-like longer lashes on the outside corners of her eyes. She has thin red lips in a smirk. She has a swashbuckling attitude, and is a very beautiful and impressive looking doll.

#0137 of 4000

First look at my Zarina Limited Edition Designer Doll. My Zarina is 0137 of 4000. There were no designer bags, as there were in the previous Designer doll collections.

I visited my local Disney Store on Februay 18, 2014, for the release of the Disney Fairies Designer Collection dolls. I also noticed that they had several items in the Frozen section that had been missing for several weeks, especially the mugs and Classic Anna dolls, but no Elsas.

They had eight of each Designer Fairy doll, Tinker Bell and Zarina. There were about that many people waiting in line before the store opened, waiting to buy them. I didn't do an actual count, but no one left the line when it was announced how many dolls there were, so there were probably seven or eight of them in the line. They had no designer bags, so they just put them in regular Disney Store bags.

I inspected my dolls, and they looked in perfect condition. I was surprised by their shiny pearly skin (similar in texture to LE Ursula and Harrods Elsa), but they looked very beautiful. The artwork on the boxes were also very beautiful, but the backgrounds behind the dolls were plain looking. The CM had to help me take off the slip cover of the Zarina doll, as it was very tight. She said all the Zarinas seemed to be that way.

CMC Classical Model Cars

1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Gullwing Coupe

Motorcar Miniatures

www.motorcarminiatures.com

From CMC:

Who doesn't know about the famous Uhlenhaut coupé with its landmark gullwing doors? Only two prototypes of this model were built, and it was and still is a formidable street car. The irony is that most people only had the chance to see it from behind. Back then, while the fastest BMW was capable of reaching 170 km/h, and the fastest Porsche, even up to 200 km/h, the Uhlenhaut coupé could speed at nearly 300 km/h. It surely caused a lot of amazement as well as jealousy.

The explanation, however, is simple. Underneath the bodywork is an enhanced 3-litre Formula 1 engine. Actually the two coupés were built for racing. Their intended mission was to participate in endurance races, such as the Mille Miglia or the 24 Hours of Le Mans. But Daimler surprisingly decided to retire from professional racing at the end of 1955, and the situation changed drastically.

Rudolf Uhlenhaut, an ingenious engineer in charge of the Mercedes racing department, rightly decided that it would be a shame to let the two cars sit idle to gather dust in a garage. As a result, the two 300 SLR coupés became his personal company cars. Today every automobile enthusiast knows what is meant by "the Uhlenhaut coupé," even though this was never an official designation. When Rudolf went to work in the morning, the whole neighborhood noticed it. Because the 300 hp 8-cylinder would send out a throbbing uproar. And there were limits to what the additional silencer could do to reduce the deafening noise of the side pipes. Rudolf Uhlenhaut really enjoyed driving the coupés, and he also had the skills to handle these beasts of power. Contemporary witnesses confirm that he was able to drive from Stuttgart to Munich in less than an hour. Given the increasing traffic congestion, this is something we can only dream about today.

The Uhlenhaut coupès are not for sale. Daimler holds onto them as if they were their crown jewels. If you want to see the original Uhlenhaut coupé, you have to visit the Daimler museum in Stuttgart, Germany. If you want to see it every day, however, just put our incomparably beautiful model on display in your cabinet.

Deboxing my Designer Zarina Doll. First the slip cover and acrylic cover are taken off. She is now in the clear. She is secured to the factory packaging by wires, thread, rubber bands and plastic T-tabs. Then I released the plastic spacers from the cardboard backing, and cut the backing from the base of the case. I left a small bit of plastic and a clear rubber band around her right hand, that was useful to keeping the sword secured to her hand. Then the spacer was freed from the doll by snipping the rubber bands, wires and T-tabs attaching her to the spacer. The hardest to remove were the tiny T-tabs tacked into her head. Then I removed the wires attaching her to the stand, and cut her boots free from the spacers at the base. Then I cleaned up the base of the display case by removing the cardboard at the base (which was tacked to the base by double sticky tape), and cutting of the plastic spacers that were used to secure her feet to the base. I lay her down on a counter to finish removing the remnants of the packaging restraints. She is then fully deboxed.

Ariel is next to be removed from the display stand. She is still tied to the doll stand, and her dress still tacked to the base of the stand. There was also tissue paper wrapped around her legs under her skirt. There was a tie in the back of her skirt that when cut made the skirt fuller. Her hair was in two sections in the factory packaging, but the gap was easily shaken out. There was hair product to set the curls, but her hair was still fairly soft, especially in the straighter parts. She is wearing dark blue flats, matching the color of her skirt. Her outfit was in four pieces: her blue satin skirt with gold embroidery and jewels, her corset-like blue velvet bodice also with gold embroidery and jewels, her white tulle petticoat, and her satin long sleeved blouse with lacy collar and cuffs. She has no edition number stampings, unlike Eric, but like the other Princesses in this series.

Eric is the first to be removed from the display stand. He is place on a counter to inspect his outfit, and partially disassemble it. First, his sash and belt are sewn together, so I cut the stitching (except for one), so I could remove it. The belt has a Velcro closure, but the sash is just tied together with the loose ends hanging like a men's tie. The belt and sash are removed, and his shirt and pants are partly opened to show his back. On his lower back is stamped his edition number and size: #1145 of 6000. He has dark blue painted on underpants, matching the color of his pants. His rolled up sleeves are sewn in that position, and has considerable fraying from the inside of the cuffs. It should be easy to free the cuffs, and roll down the sleeves. However, they don't look like they are full length, and would stop short of his wrists. His shirt and pants are then closed up. His sash and belt are placed next to him. Then his sash and belt are put back on. I had considerable difficulty redoing the sash tie so the ends would hang as nicely as before.

Deboxing my Limited Edition Ariel and Eric Doll Set, #1145 of 6000. They are in their display case, with the clear acrylic cover removed. They are attached to the cardboard backing and plastic spacer, and also supported by the built in doll stands. Then the backing is opened by cutting the tape holding the sides together.

Then the dolls are removed from the backing, but are still attached to the plastic spacer, and to the doll stand. Ariel's skirt is also tacked to the cardboard at the base of the stand. Next the backing is cut off from the base, so that we are able to view the dolls from all angles. The backing stored with the acrylic cover. Then the spacer is removed from the dolls. It is necessary to cut the plastic ties that attach the back of Ariel's head to the spacer. After the spacer is removed, the dolls are still attached to the doll stand by wires.

Photographed boxed, during deboxed, and fully deboxed using built-in camera flash.

Rapunzel and Flynn Rider are now fully deboxed. They are placed back on the display stand. Rapunzel is standing, supported by the built-in doll stand. Rather than place Flynn back on his doll stand, I stood him up on his own, behind Rapunzel's right side. This is so that Rapunzel could face forward, while not completely blocking the view of Flynn. I also tried to put them in a more romantic pose by having Flynn helping Rapunzel hold the lantern up. Flynn's other hand is on Rapunzel's waist. They are both looking straight ahead, but definitely have a connection with each other.

Her dress is closed up and she is now fully deboxed.

Now it's Belle's turn to be deboxed. There are tiny plastic tabs pinning her dress to the bottom

backing. Once her dress is freed, there are wires holding her legs to the doll stand, tissue paper wrapped around her legs and . One of her gloves is pinned to her dress, and her hair is wrapped with rubber bands, keeping it close to her neck. The wires are removed, and she is freed from the doll stand, and laid down on a counter to continue the deboxing. Her skirt is raised and the tissue paper removed from around her legs. Her dress is opened in the back to make removing the wire around her waist easier. She has no stamped numbers on her back, where they usually are for LE dolls.

The plastic spacer is then removed from the backs of the two dolls. The next step is to free the dolls from the built in doll stands. The Beast is the first to be removed. Once the wires tying him to the doll stand, and the rubber band tying him to Belle's arm are removed, the Beast is freed from the stand, which is clamped to his waist. He is placed on the counter to inspect him. There are no further fasteners to remove, except that I chose to leave the jacket sewn to the front of the shirt. He is now fully deboxed.

The cardboard backing has been cut open to reveal the ends of the various fasteners used to secure the dolls and plastic spacers to the backing. Then the large spacer is freed from the backing, and the backing is laid down flat, revealing the backs of the dolls, who are still attached to the spacer, the doll stands, and the bottom of the backing. Next the backing is cut off from the base of the display stand. The bottom of the backing is still stuck to the base with double stick tape. The backing, with the Certificate of Authenticity attached, is put away inside of the acrylic top of the case.

Deboxing my Belle and the Beast Doll Set. First the illustrated slip cover is slid off the display case, revealing the dolls inside a clear acrylic enclosure. They are secured to the built in doll stands and the cardboard backing and plastic spacers by wires, rubber bands and plastic tabs. Then the clear acrylic cover is lifted off the base. In this case I had considerable difficulty freeing the cover from the base. The tabs under the base wouldn't let go of the cover, no matter what I did, until I turned the box upside down and fiddled with the tabs while I jiggled the cover. In the process Belle's hair got a bit messy, but her hair wasn't that neat to begin with, so i smoothed it a bit before taking photos of the set uncovered.

First look at my Belle and the Beast Doll Set, part of the Disney Fairytale Designer Collection. Purchased from my local Disney Store through the raffle process on release day, October 1, 2013. There were 28 doll sets available, and easily three times that many people who entered. I was very lucky in that I was the next to last person to be chosen.

DOLLS IN LINE: Chelsea; Madison; Barbie

MISSING ITEMS: Shoes, belly jewelry, sunglasses

PERSONAL FUN FACT: It's kind of ironic that I have many pieces to this "1st Edition" My Scene Barbie but not the doll. However I have the opposite problem with my "1st Edition" Chelsea--I have the doll, but barely any of her stuff! I probably got these pieces from a variety of sources, but truth be told I really cannot recall anymore. I do know however that the v-neck tank top came with my third Style It! Dana. In the spring of 2014, I purchased a lot off eBay with the three "1st Edition" Moxie Girlz dolls and a random Style It! Dana. I already had Dana, but I was happy to discover she was wearing a shirt that went to a My Scene doll! As for the rest of these fixings, if I had to guess, I'd say they originated from the "Bratz Guy bin" of 2011. I got a ton of My Scene scraps, and a few dolls, from said lot. The pants were from a small baggie of clothes I got at the flea market in 2021. They were the last clothing item I had been needing, so naturally I was VERY excited to acquire them. I really like the color palette of this ensemble. The earthy tones with pops of cranberry remind me of the Xpress It! Bratz line. These pieces are all very versatile, however I really enjoy using them together. For the most part, none of my "1st Edition" Barbie clothes have spent any time in storage, as I've always found a rogue, scrappy flea market My Scene doll to wear them. I'd still love to find the Barbie who is supposed to don these outfits someday, but at least I've gotten tons of use from them regardless!

Jasmine and Aladdin Fairytale Designer dolls have been completely deboxed and then replaced on their doll stands. I placed in a pose similar to what they had originally, but without a rubber band securing their hands. They are photographed in diffuse natural light.
