The first step in a new knitting project is winding the loose skeins of yarn into balls to prevent tangling. This can be done by hand, but is more efficient using a swift and a ball winder. Here it is on the ball winder. The yarn is Malabrigo superwash wool, and the colorway is Archangel.

I thought this theme was really cool and I had a lot of fun taking this photo and making the dress!! I wanted to go for a really high end look that really resembled Versace! I really hope you like it and that we get a good placing this week!
"The Silvereye is a small bird with a conspicuous ring of white feathers around the eye, and belongs to a group of birds known as white-eyes.
Silvereyes breed in spring and early summer (mainly between September and December), making a tiny cup of grass, moss, hair, spiderweb, and thistledown, suspended from a branch fork in the outer reaches of small trees or shrubs. They lay two to four pale blue eggs, and two (or sometimes three) broods may be raised during each breeding season. The eggs hatch after about 11 days, and the young fledge after another 10 days. The juveniles are independent at 3 weeks and able to breed at 9 months.
In late summer silvereyes gather into flocks and many Australian birds migrate, making their way north along the coast and ranges, foraging busily during the day with much calling and quick movement through the shrubbery, then flying long distances through the night."

From the garden: kale, rosemary, jalapeno, basil, cayenne, sage.
I like almost all foods except extremely hot and spicy. Of all ethnic cuisines, I'm most skittish around Indian and Mexican. So why do I grow hot peppers? I don't know. They readily grow in containers and need little encouragement. Squirrels don't touch them. I discovered that jalapenos and some others are mild enough for my taste. Cayenne is very hot but a little goes a long way. One chilly adds zip to a whole slow cooker meal. They dry easier than anything. And of course they look great. In other words, I'm willing to experiment. If I'm in control, if I put it in, I'll eat it and live with the consequences.
Herbs, on the other hand, I love. There's nothing better than basil pesto. But sage is one of my favourites: indispensible for roast chicken and soup, it's extremely hardy in this part of Ontario, and the pebbled greyish foliage is so attractive.

As usual in mid-spring the garden is full of magenta spreen seedlings. Chenopdoium giganteum tastes like spianch and can be used in any recipe calling for spinach, but is much, much easier to grow and more productive. It flourishes in hot dry weather when spinach is long withered to a crumble. Magenta spreen is a close relative of quinoa, lamb's quarters, and amaranth. I grows to a gigantic size, more than 2 metres, and self-sows abundantly. But I don't mind. I let one plant get big each summer. The seedings are good to eat, and easy to scratch out wherever they aren't wanted.
The magenta colour on the new growth looks fuzzy, but this is how it looks on close inspection. Not like any other plant I have seen.

I have a few favourite foods. If you ask my absolute favourite, depending on circumstances I might answer one of about five different things. In August in Ontario a perfectly ripe peach beats the others.
There's nothing more disappointing than a dry, mealy peach. But the ones in this basket were picked ripe, grown by our favourite small farm fruit vendors from the Niagara Region who sell at St. Jacobs Farmers Market.
These peaches are by no means disappointing. They are still barely firm but dripping with sweetness and flavour.
