Solar #Eclipse2017 photographed using the gaps between oak-tree leaves as a pin-hole lens. Lens: 50mm f/1.8 w/reverse ring filter

I believe this is shortly after the partial phase started.

These folks were from Moorhead, Minnesota.

You can see that there were some scattered clouds moving in. Nothing to note on a normal day, but this was not a normal day.

This video spans about 44-minutes and the first frame is about 2-minutes before the start. Sony A7 II full-frame from Tellico Plains, TN.

I took and kept too many--will get'em out of the way before we start looking ahead to 2024.

After having seen it, it's pretty easy to understand why, in the days before astronomy and science, people really lost their shit when this happened.

Light filtering through the tree in front of our house during the total solar eclipse 2017. Note that we were in an area of Missouri with above 90% coverage, but not full coverage.

Also, a lot of insect noise is documented here. :)

It was definitely strange. It felt like late evening, although the sun was directly overhead and was still creating sharp shadows.

The effect of the "crescent-shaped light spots" is totally natural. What happens is that openings between the leaves that would normally cause "splotches" of light essentially become so many pinhole projectors, some of which create images of "the crescent Sun" that overlap.

The wind in the leaves adds to the effect and makes those crescents move around.

But essentially you really can "see the eclipse everywhere". I thought that was one of the most fun things about it and I'm afraid many people totally missed this.

Total solar eclipse, 21 Aug 2017 1:02 PM, seen from Pioneers Park, Lincoln, Nebraska.

To get this image I had Triggertrap connected to my NEX3N doing multiple LE HDR runs. 17 images total, stacked in Photoshop with selective blending to bring out features in the corona and chromosphere while preserving naked eye faithfulness. Some blurriness from local cloudiness.

Solar Eclipse viewed through an h-alpha telescope from Livermore, California.

An obvious double exposure that wasn't well thought out. Perhaps blinded by the light
