The total lunar eclipse took place on June 15, 2011. It is the first of two total lunar eclipses in 2011, the second will occur on December 10. It is relatively rare a total lunar eclipse when the moon passes through the center of the Earth's shadow. The last total lunar eclipse was on February 20, 2008. The next total lunar eclipse center is 15 April 2014.1
First trip to the annual Seattle trip in this car. Was a blast to drive all weekend, even though the ride was harsh and the car is almost impractical. The sacrifices we make for style.

So many eclipse shots being uploaded. This was my attempt back in March 07. Taken from Maracas beach (hash lime). Only a ten inch plastic tripod was available so this was shot while lieing in the sand. This was the only half decent result out of about 100 frames. Hats off to the folks who upload good shots.

Struggled with poor focusing possibly because of dew on the lens, but captured the Harvest Moon Eclipse.
Stellarium screenshot. Location is N47 deg 37 min W 122 deg 20 min - somewhere around Seattle :-). The moon will eclipsing as it's just rising and will enter total eclipse roughly due east and 10 deg above horizon, exiting about bearing 105, about 30 deg above horizon.
To frame the space needle in the shot, you want to be roughly due west of the needle. Since this is not really possible unless we go out to Bainbridge with hella big telephotos, we're going to shoot from Kerry Park. With a wide angle, it should fit.
When the eclipse was total, I had to increase the exposure to get a good picture. I'm not sure exactly what settings I used here to get such a good shot. I'd been fiddling and most of the pictures I took did not come out, but this one did. I tried to take more like this, but I was never able to figure out what settings I had used!
