It has been ten years, and The Old Joes Choir has come a long way, evolving musically, and as an entity that continues to enthral its public. A decade of dabbling, experimenting and extending the boundaries and limits of sound and music has stood in good stead, enabling a group of talented and committed individuals hone and perfect something they were already good at.
It was in 1997 that The Old Joes Choir embarked upon their musical journey; a voyage that has augured well and ushered in positive change, along with a loyal audience, fans of choral music, who have stood by them through the last ten years of evolution. Thus, it is only right that The Old Joes Choir pay tribute to their loyal, unwavering fans, and their decade old journey, through a musical celebration of the last ten years.
You are welcomed to witness a unique event, involving diversity in sound and style, in celebration of a ten year old journey, as The Old Joes Choir embarks upon a voyage of rediscovery; an expedition that will strike at the very core of their musical soul. Sit back, relax, and prepare to be enthralled, as they go back to their roots to present you with our Timeless Echoes.

Join us on a group bicycle ride to different community gardens in D.C., with everyone convening at a community film screening and discussion of a feature-length documentary, "A Community of Gardeners," which promotes urban sustainability and green spaces, with a chance for film-goers to drink, eat and socialize afterwards.
GROUP CYCLE RIDE (1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.) - FREE
Meet up at City Bikes' Adams Morgan location (2501 Champlain St. NW) at 1:00 p.m. Soon aftewards, we will head out for a chance to see Wangari Gardens, a great new city garden in the shadow of the Children's Medical Center. From there we will meander across town to visit the new terraced garden at Brainfood and then to the Fridge Gallery. Following the screening and social hour, head over to City Bikes' Capitol Hill location (709 8th St. SE) for snacks and swag. If you have any questions please email ben@citybikes.com. The group ride is free and open to the public.

The feature-length documentary, "A Community of Gardeners," explores the vital role of seven community gardens in Washington, D.C. as sources of fresh, nutritious food, outdoor classrooms, places of healing, links to immigrants' homelands, centers of social interaction and oases of beauty and calm in inner-city neighborhoods. The film also traces the history of community gardens in the United States, from the potato patch farms of the late 19th century, to the victory gardens of World War II, to community gardening's current renaissance.
Before the screening, we will premiere, "Planting Community: The Story of Wangari Gardens," a five-minute documentary produced by Still Life Projects that tells the story of Josh Singer and his determination to reclaim an abandoned piece of land in DC's Park View neighborhood. The hurdles he faces along the way cause months of setbacks, but his vision of a community garden grows into something beyond what he even imagined.
The screenings will be followed by a discussion and Q&A with filmmaker Cintia Cabib, Josh Singer of Wangari Gardens, Kate Lee of the Brainfood Youth Garden, and Ryan Hill of Still Life Projects.

The Echo Cliffs is a prominent monocline in northern Arizona that runs for dozens of miles in a north-south direction, within the Navajo Nation and Coconino County, in northern Arizona. It is to the east of Grand Canyon National Park.
U.S. Highway 89 runs parallel to it in the valley on its western side.
Prominently exposed in the cliffs are the Chinle Formation of the Colorado Plateau. Its rocks are of the Glen Canyon Group above and the Moenkopi Formation below.

I know some of these are blurry but I still like them ... the colour of the costumes, the movement, the energy.
The Echo Dance Association is a not-for-profit organization, dedicated to promoting community arts through dance performances and related activities. Founded in 1998 in Toronto, succeeding its forerunner originally founded in 1981 in Taiwan by Ms Lee Li-Hsuan Huang, the Echo Dance Association celebrates and promotes multiculturalism through its modern and Chinese cultural dances and many activities that involve and educate the greater community.
With the intensification of the migratory crisis caused by the war in Syria, Hungary, Serbia and Macedonia close their borders to thousands of people fleeing, breaking an ancient migratory route: the Balkan route. In Greece, along the barbed wire of the Macedonian border, men, women and children gather in camps, in huge self-managed tent cities, where NGOs, volunteers and activists are challenging the game of mafias of human traffickers.
Echoes shows a limbo in which the desperation of a pending future contrasts with a vital and stubborn resistance, focusing her gaze on the day before the eviction of Eko Station, the last remaining informal camp in northern Greece. Through the frequencies of a pirate radio, words and rebel songs echo in the silence imposed by the Fortress Europe.

That's why you hear the echo in the mountains:
Echo was a beautiful nymph, fond of the woods and hills, where she devoted herself to woodland sports. She was a favorite of Artemis, and attended her in the chase. But Echo had one failing; she was fond of talking, and whether in chat or argument, would have the last word. One day Hera was seeking her husband, who, she had reason to fear, was amusing himself among the nymphs. Echo by her talk contrived to detain the Goddess till the nymphs made their escape. When Hera discovered it, she passed sentence upon Echo in these words: "You shall forfeit the use of that tongue with which you have cheated me, except for that one purpose you are so fond of - reply. You shall still have the last word, but no power to speak first."
This nymph saw Narcissus, a beautiful youth, as he pursued the chase upon the mountains. She loved him and followed his footsteps. O how she longed to address him in the softest accents, and win him to converse! But it was not in her power. She waited with impatience for him to speak first, and had her answer ready. One day the youth, being separated from his companions, shouted aloud, "Who's here?" Echo replied, "Here." Narcissus looked around, but seeing no one called out, "Come". Echo answered, "Come." As no one came, Narcissus called again, "Why do you shun me?" Echo, asked the same question. "Let us join one another," said the youth. The maid answered with all her heart in the same words, and hastened to the spot, ready to throw her arms about his neck. He started back, exclaiming, "Hands off! I would rather die than you should have me!" "Have me," said she; but it was all in vain. He left her, and she went to hide her blushes in the recesses of the woods.
From that time forth she lived in caves till at last all her flesh shrank away. Her bones were changed into rocks and there was nothing left of her but her voice. With that she is still ready to reply to any one who calls her, and keeps up her old habit of having the last word.
