It occurred to me that I may have an addiction to French pocket knives - 3 of those are in the photo.

 

Left to right:

- Deejo "37g" Ebony

- Opinel Effilé 10 Olivier

- Laguiole en Aubrac

 

The Deejo is a stylish lightweight pocket knife with a hint of an ebony handle.

 

The Opinel "Slim No. 10 Beech" is a dead cheap, razor sharp, French made folding knife. Unlike the "classic" Opinels, the slim line knives feature a highly polished blade.

 

The Laguiole - famous French knives named after a 1,200-people village in France and (if genuine) all the different Laguioles are handmade in or around that village. Different price class than Opinel or Deejo, though still my EDC knife.

A stylish "Deejo 37g" lightweight pocket knife made in France propped up against a Nikon AF-D 35/2.0. (click link for photos taken with this lens)

 

The knife comes with a hint of an ebony handle. Lockable blade with liner lock, but still "street legal" in Germany, as it is dual hand operated.

 

The "37g" name comes from the nominal weight of this knife - 37 grams.

 

These knives also come with other wood inserts on the handles, such as juniper or olive. Or even as "naked" w/o that piece of wood at all.

 

Tip, in case you stumble upon those in an online shop: though the "naked" versions do look even more stylish and cool, they are unfortunately very uncomfortable to hold in the hand.

 

Better buy in a "brick and mortar" shop where you could "try it on" and see how the respective wood and metal combo really looks like.

It's not that easy to keep the whole thing going ;-) ...

When I have an idea in my head, I try everything. It wasn't that easy to flare here. As a last try, I tipped a lot of the grill lighter over the poor pieces of branch so that it was enough – and it worked best with the bottle in one hand and the camera in the other ... A big mess in the snow, but that's thawing away soon ;-)

Das ist gar nicht so einfach, das Ganze am Brennen zu halten ;-) ...

Wenn ich mir eine Idee in den Kopf gesetzt habe, versuche ich alles. Hier war es mit dem Anfackeln gar nicht so einfach. Als letzten Versuch habe ich jede Menge vom Grillanzünder über die armen Zweigstücke gekippt, damit es ausreichte – und am Besten ging es mit der Flasche in der einen Hand und der Kamera in der anderen ... Eine große Sauerei im Schnee, aber das taut ja bald wieder weg ;-)

Laguiole en Aubrac by Markus Bahlmann

Another French pocket knife. A genuine French "Laguiole en Aubrac" with polished blade and hardware, ebony wood handle.

 

Genuine "Laguiole":

(or: why your product should not be named after a place):

 

There's probably a gazillion different makers/distributors/sellers of "Laguiole" knives (in France alone there's allegedly over 130 of them), but most of the knives - the cheap stuff - are most likely from somewhere in Asia...

 

The problem here is that "Laguiole" as a single word is neither a brand nor a single knifemaker, it is just the name of a 1,200-people village in France, and therefore cannot be protected as a quality mark.

 

As a rule of thumb, only "Laguioles" with the "Laguiole Origine Garantie" as issued by the "Association de Défense du Laguiole Origine Garantie" in the town hall of the village Laguiole are genuine, hand-made knives from the region.

 

You may find the wording "Laguiole Origine Garantie" written somewhere on the blade and/or the respective logo "L within O" is applied to the knife - and that is a protected logo / wording.

 

Lauguiole en Aubrac also has the bull head as protected logo.

Sometimes things speak to me. Or I want things to talk to me. I do that too. Talk to them. Sometimes.

My idea was to show the contrast between ice and fire. So I looked for something flammable and found these matches to freeze properly. In the hope that they would torch properly too. Yesterday I got the taste for it when I photographed the "heart in the fire" ;-) These five also resisted a lot and didn't want to ignite for me at all – but I don't like to give up :-))) Now I have a thick blister on my thumb from the lighter. Then I let a small birthday candle help me (after politely asking her). The ice melt could begin ...

Manchmal sprechen die Dinge mit mir. Oder ich möchte, dass die Dinge mit mir sprechen. Ich tue das ja ebenfalls. Mit denen reden. Manchmal.

Meine Idee war, den Gegensatz von Eis und Feuer zu zeigen. Also habe ich nach etwas Brennbarem gesucht und diese Streichhölzer gefunden, um sie ordnugnsgemäß einzufrieren. In der Hoffnung, dass sie auch ordentlich fackeln würden. Ich war nach gestern auf den Geschmack gekommen, als ich das "Herz im Feuer" fotografiert hatte ;-) Auch diese Fünf haben sich haben sich ordentlich gesträubt und wollten sich erst gar nicht für mich entflammen – aber ich gebe ja nicht gern auf :-))) Jetzt habe ich vom Feuerzeug eine dicke Brandblase am Daumen. Danach habe ich mich von einer kleinen Geburtstagskerze unterstützen lassen (nachdem ich sie höflich gefragt habe). Die Eisschmelze konnte einsetzen ...

Hans Schabus collected for some years all things with Hans (Hans = John Johnny - and was a very common name - and it is also the name of my father): Hans in Luck, Johnny Head-in-the-Air, plastic budgie (Hansi is a common name for lovebirds), Junghans clock, Hans beer bottle, Hansel und Gretel,....

As one of the items he found was the sign of a café house he build this container with a working cafè inside, with a waiter.....

 

Hans Schabus sammelte über mehrere Jahre alles mit hans: Hansa Kisten, Hansa Kekse, Hans Bierflasche, Hans im Glück, Hans Dampf, Hansi Hinterseer, Hans Guck in die Luft, Lufthansa, Hans Albers, Hänsel und Gretel, Plastik Wellensittich (häufiger Wellensittich Name: Hansi) Junghans Uhr, Hans Zug, Hansaplast.... Da einer der Gegenstände, seiner Sammlung das Kaffeehausschild ist, ist im Kontainer ein funktionsfähiges Kaffeehaus mit Kellner...... Und spiegelt sich der Hansi im Café Hansi von Hans Schabus

Zweck des Pastafarianismus, Spaghettimonster: Aufzeigen der unsinnigen Privilegien, die Religionen genießen, indem diese ad absurdum geführt werden. Atheisten ersetzen nicht Gott durch das Spaghettimonster. Es geht um das Aufzeigen von Privilegien - Privileg, Vorrecht, Vorteil impliziert, daß jene die diese Privilegien nicht haben benachteiligt sind, diskriminiert werden ( = "some things and people count, most don`t") - Es heißt also per se: Ungleichbehandlung. Beim Pastafarianismus geht es um das Aufzeigen von Privilegien, somit um das Aufzeigen von Ungleichbehandlung (Ungleichbehandlung verschiedener Religionen durch die Bevorzugung bestimmter Religionen, sowie auch Ungleichbehandlung von Konfessionslosen, Atheisten), Aufzeigen von Diskriminierung und die Bekämpfung dieser. Es geht um die Herstellung von Gleichheit - Dies ist genau das Gegenteil von Antisemitismus! So wie es auch das Gegenteil ist von "some things and people count, most don`t"

Atheismus ist mit vielen Vorurteilen behaften, Atheisten waren und sind nach wie vor Diskriminierungen und Verfolgung ausgesetzt.

Ich habe keinen von Fabio Keiners Kommentaren gelöscht, ich habe ihm die Redefreiheit nicht verwehrt.

Anregung zum Nachdenken: Nicht die Atheistin verwehrt die Redefreiheit, nicht die Atheistin, ist diejenige die blockt. Geblockt wird zum Beispiel von jemandem, der nach eigener Aussage sakrale Tapisserien fertigt.

La commune de Vaduz s'étend sur 17,3 km2 répartis en un territoire principal et six exclaves. Située sur la rive droite du Rhin, avec le Pont Couvert, la partie centrale abrite la zone urbaine de la capitale ainsi que le village d'Ebenholz. Deux portions de territoires sont enclavées dans la commune de Schaan au nord, deux autres dans la commune de Planken au nord-est et les deux dernières sont situées en zone montagneuse dans le sud-est du pays.

but share the common ground of placing art in the public realm without looking for monetary gain.

You will enjoy the expressions of the contemporary art in unexpected forms,

with live performances found only at cutting edge venues for contemporary art.

The artist showing their works and those in attendance are friends of not only our project in Italy but offer a selection of the best emerging talent in the street art world today.

The raw essence of the streets and the artist generosity and friendliness in sharing their works with the public in their countries, as well as now in Italy enthusiastically participate with the only purpose to share their feelings, their sensations, their nonsense, their logic, and their techniques.

We are proud to say that their artworks are meant to share the art itself and their heart as well.

Even the artists whose works have come from all over the world, sometimes to distant for themselves to attend, will be with us through the spirit of their masterpieces.

"Post it Up" sarà abbastanza caldo grazie alle nuove opere inviate da artisti di tutto il mondo!

Siete tutti invitati alla terza edizione di questo evento pressoché unico nel genere,

che vi darà l'opportunità di vedere la vera arte urbana proveniente da diversi luoghi e culture!

Tutti i lavori sono rappresentativi dei più disparati significati ma di sicuro privi dell'egoismo spesso imposto da un possibile lucro.

Potrete godere delle espressioni più disparate dell'arte contemporanea in forme inaspettate,

con performance dal vivo che vengono riproposte solo in pochi altri eventi.

"Post it Up" sarà abbastanza caldo grazie alle nuove opere inviate da artisti di tutto il mondo!

schwer zu bearbeıten ıst.

 

Die Weihnachtsbotschaft in Gestalt der Krippe von Bethlehem

ist hier mit einem Boot verbunden, das mit den Jüngern Jesu

zum Ufer der Zeit unterwegs ist. Durch den Engel mit der

Posaune des Jüngsten Gerichts wird das Geleit himmlischer

Mächte und zugleich auch das Ziel angedeutet.

 

Das Kunstwerk ist ein Symbol für den Weg der Kirche zum

Ewigen und ein Zeichen der partnerschaftlichen Beziehungen

zwischen dem Evang.-Luth. Dekanatsbezirk Rothenburg ob der

Tauber und dem Dekanatsbezirk Hai am Kilimanjaro

(Tansania).

Okay, well – it did not even make a real face when I sprinkled the pepper on the radish slice ... Somewhat clumsy. And I also did not want to take down the slice – in my skill today it would certainly smeared everything ... So, my idea was to present you this typical German dinner, which reminds with its colors of the fairytale Snow White. It consists of pumpernickel, cream cheese and radishes in slices – garnished with coarse pepper and salt for flavor enhancement. Delicious to enjoy as a starter. Really tasty :-))

Okay, na gut – es ist noch nicht einmal ein richtiges Gesicht entstanden, als ich den Pfeffer auf die Radieschenscheibe gestreut habe ... Etwas ungeschickt. Und runternehmen wollte ich die Scheibe auch nicht mehr – bei meiner Geschicklichkeit heute wäre es bestimmt alles verschmiert ... Also, meine Idee war es, Euch dieses typisch deutsche Abendbrot zu präsentieren, das mit seinen Farben an das Märchen Schneewittchen erinnert. Es besteht aus Pumpernickel, Frischkäse und Radieschen in Scheiben – zur Geschmacksverstärkung mit grobem Pfeffer und Salz garniert. Gern als Vorspeise zu genießen. Wirklich lecker :-))

Hier noch ein kleiner Ausschnitt aus dem Märchen der Gebrüder Grimm – zur Erinnerung:

Es war einmal mitten im Winter, und die Schneeflocken fielen wie Federn vom Himmel herab, da saß eine Königin an einem Fenster, das einen Rahmen von schwarzem Ebenholz hatte, und nähte. Es geschah, dass sie sie sich mit der Nadel in den Finger stach, und es fielen drei Tropfen Blut in den Schnee. Ingredients: 9 round slices of pumpernickel (wholegrain bread from rye meal, pumpernickel is typical German bread), cream cheese, 1 slice of radish, coarse pepper and coarse salt (which unfortunately runs immediately once it is on radishes), LED light from the right (no ;-) bicycle rear light today), white cardboard as a reflector.

Zutaten: 9 runde Scheiben Pumpernickel (Vollkornbrot aus Roggenschrot, im Ausland gilt Pumpernickel als typisch deutsches Brot), Frischkäse, 1 Scheibe Radieschen, grober Pfeffer und grobes Salz (der leider sofort verläuft, sobald er auf Radieschen liegt), LED-Leuchte von rechts (kein ;-) Fahrradrücklicht heute), weißer Karton als Reflektor.

Wenn üben üben üben alles ist was von Bedeutung ist, dann hätte man ein Leben voll von Bedeutung geführt - indem man Gedichte auswendig gelernt hat, die man nicht versteht, denn man hat ja sein ganzes Leben lang geübt geübt geübt und das ist ja laut obiger Aussage, das einzige was von Bedeutung ist.

Daß man gewisse Fertigkeiten üben muß ist eine Binsenweisheit, daß nichts sonst von Bedeutung ist als üben ist falsch - Was also hat das mit Ideenwerkstatt zu tun: weder ist es eine Idee (abgesehen davon, daß es falsch ist), noch ist es eine Methode Ideen zu finden, denn durch Repetition kommt man nicht zu Ideen, weil eine Idee per definitionem das Gegenteil ist - einen Einfall zu haben ist etwas anderes als diesen Einfall, den man selber oder ein anderer einmal gehabt hat zu wiederholen.

Je länger man Fehler einübt um so schwerer wird man sie wieder los. Etwas unwahres wird nicht wahr dadurch, daß man es dreimal oder öfters wiederholt. Ein Fehler wird nicht richtig dadurch, daß man ihn wiederholt. Je öfter man ihn wiederholt, um so mehr verfestigt sich der Fehler, um so schwerer ist es ihn zu eliminieren, zu korrigieren. Üben ist da kontraproduktiv, denn es verstärkt und verfestigt Fehler, das heißt es führt zu Verschlechterung und nicht zu Verbesserung. (= 2. Auseinandersetzung mit Gegenposition, Beantwortung von Fragen nach Erklärungen, nach Begründungen, eingehen auf Leute, die hinterfragen, eingehen auf Kritikpunkte, Auseinandersetzung mit Gegenargumenten, Diskussion, führen einerseits dazu, daß man auf Fehler aufmerksam wird, was Grundlage für jegliche Verbesserung ist und andererseits führen sie zu neuen Ideen. Blocken bewirkt das Gegenteil. Und je länger man das Blocken rund um die Uhr jahrelang übt um so mehr verfestigen sich die Fehler um so mehr beraubt man sich selbst der Möglichkeit zu neuen Ideen. Ich bin nicht diejenige, die blockt - wie wahr, das ist wahr auch ohne 3malige Wiederholung

 

Am Sonntag habe ich gearbeitet, es stand die Vorstellung "Alles Walzer alles brennt - Eine Untergangsrevue" auf dem Spielplan des Volkstheaters - ein Stück über das rote Wien und den darauf folgenden Austrofaschismus, in dem es auch um die Geschichte des 1. Mai geht.

Das Kreuzmonument wurde von. Giovanni da Bologna (auch Giambologna genannt), 1594/95, ursprünglich für das geplante Grabmal Herzog Wilhelms V. von Bayern geschaffen. Am Fuß des Kreuzes wird es von der trauernden Maria Magdlena innig umschlungen. Das Kreuz besteht aus mit Ebenholz furniertem Holz, die Skulpturen aus mit rötlich-braunem Firnis überzogener Bronze.

 

The Cross Monument was created by Giovanni da Bologna (also known as Giambologna) in 1594/95, originally for the planned tomb of Duke William V of Bavaria. At the foot of the cross, it is embraced tenderly by the mourning Mary Magdalene. The cross is made of wood veneered with ebony, and the sculptures are made of bronze coated with reddish-brown varnish.

Die Jesuitenkirche St. Michael in der Neuhauser Straße ist ein zwischen 1583 und 1597 errichteter römisch-katholischer Sakralbau, der nach dem Erzengel Michael benannt ist. Das Kirchengebäude ist am Übergang von Renaissance und Barock entstanden, es ist der „erste große Kirchenbau Süddeutschlands nach dem Abbruch der spätmittelalterlichen Tradition“ Viele Bauideen wurden von Il Gesù übernommen, der römischen Mutterkirche der Jesuiten. So wurde die Münchner Michaelskirche prägend für viele barocke Kirchen im deutschsprachigen Raum. St. Michael war auch das geistliche Zentrum der Gegenreformation in Bayern. Herzog Wilhelm V., genannt der Fromme, initiierte den Bau eines Jesuitenkollegs mit Kollegkirche. Gleichzeitig wollte Wilhelm V., der die Gegenreformation in Bayern entscheidend vorantrieb, mit dem Bau Zeugnis seiner geistigen Herkunft ablegen, die er bis zu den römischen Kaisern Konstantin und Justinian zurückführte. Am 18. April 1583 war bereits Grundsteinlegung. Das monumentale Tonnengewölbe, das bis heute zweitgrößte freitragende Tonnengewölbe der Welt wurde 1587/88 eingezogen. Das Tonnengewölbe hielt trotz pessimistischer Stimmen zur damaligen Zeit bis 1944 stand. 1590 stürzte der Turm ein und zerstörte den Chor; das Tonnengewölbe hielt dagegen. Die Bauarbeiten wurden zuerst eingestellt, dann wurde eine beträchtliche Verlängerung der Kirche nach Norden geplant. Erst 1593 wurden die Arbeiten an St. Michael wieder aufgenommen. Am 6. Juli 1597 wurde die Kirche eingeweiht. Wilhelm V. geriet durch seinen Baueifer (schließlich hat St. Michael in seinen Ausmaßen die Mutterkirche der Jesuiten, Il Gesù in Rom, deutlich übertroffen), an den Rand des Staatsbankrotts. Dennoch wurde St. Michael direktes Vorbild für über 100 Nachfolgebauten. Die Jesuiten betreuten Kirche und Kolleg St. Michael bis zum Verbot 1773. Im gleichen Jahr wurde St. Michael Hofkirche.

  

The Jesuit Church of St. Michael in Neuhauser Straße is a Roman Catholic church built between 1583 and 1597 and named after the Archangel Michael. The church building was constructed during the transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque period and is the ‘first large church building in southern Germany after the end of the late medieval tradition.’ Many of the architectural ideas were taken from Il Gesù, the Roman mother church of the Jesuits. As a result, Munich's St. Michael's Church became influential for many Baroque churches in German-speaking countries. St. Michael's was also the spiritual centre of the Counter-Reformation in Bavaria. Duke William V, known as the Pious, initiated the construction of a Jesuit college with a collegiate church. At the same time, William V, who was a key figure in promoting the Counter-Reformation in Bavaria, wanted the building to bear witness to his spiritual origins, which he traced back to the Roman emperors Constantine and Justinian. The foundation stone was laid on 18 April 1583. The monumental barrel vault, which is still the second largest self-supporting barrel vault in the world, was installed in 1587/88. Despite pessimistic voices at the time, the barrel vault remained intact until 1944. In 1590, the tower collapsed and destroyed the choir; the barrel vault, however, remained intact. Construction work was initially halted, then a considerable extension of the church to the north was planned. It was not until 1593 that work on St. Michael's was resumed. The church was consecrated on 6 July 1597.

Die Saliera gilt als die einzige erhalten gebliebene Goldschmiedearbeit Benvenuto Cellinis (1500–1572). Sie ist ein Werk der Spätrenaissance und zeigt eine allegorische Darstellung des Planeten Erde: Neptun, der Gott des Meeres, zu seinen Füßen ein Schiff als Salzbehälter, von vier pferdeartigen Wesen mit Rossleib und Fischschwänzen getragen, und Tellus, die römische Göttin der Erde. An ihrer Seite befinden sich ein Tempelgebäude, das als Behälter für Pfeffer dient, sowie die Darstellungen von Landtieren und einem von Blüten und Früchten strotzenden Füllhorn.

 

Die Figur des Neptun symbolisiert hier das Meer, welches das Salz hervorbringt, wohingegen Tellus die Erde symbolisiert, welche den Pfeffer hervorbringt. Cellini schreibt zu seinem ikonographischen Programm diesbezüglich: „Beide hatten die Beine anmutsvoll ineinander geschoben; das eine hielten sie gestreckt, das andere gebogen; welche Stellung Berg und Ebene der Erde bedeuten sollte.“ Der Sockel der Skulptur ist in acht Nischen eingeteilt, in denen Allegorien der Jahreszeiten einerseits und Morgenröte, Tag, Dämmerung und Nacht andererseits dargestellt sind.

 

Die Figuren wurden von Cellini, der zu dieser Zeit in Frankreich eine große Werkstatt mit vielen Mitarbeitern aus Frankreich, Italien und Deutschland unterhielt, freihändig aus Goldblech getrieben – wie er in seiner Werkbeschreibung schrieb, „von so schöner Gestalt und so anmutig, als ich nur wußte und konnte“ – und teilweise emailliert. Der Sockel umschreibt ein Oval und besteht aus Ebenholz mit Verzierungen aus Gold. Insgesamt misst das Tischgerät 28,5 cm × 21,5 cm × 26,3 cm und ruht auf vier lose in das Ebenholz eingelassenen Elfenbeinkugeln. Auf diese Weise in alle Richtungen zu rollen, ermöglicht es der Tischgesellschaft einen schnellen Zugriff auf das kostbare Gewürz..........................The Cellini Salt Cellar (in Vienna called the Saliera, Italian for salt cellar) is a part-enamelled gold table sculpture by Benvenuto Cellini. It was completed in 1543 for Francis I of France, from models that had been prepared many years earlier for Cardinal Ippolito d'Este.

 

The cellar is the only remaining work of precious metal which can be reliably attributed to Cellini.[1] It was created in the Mannerist style of the late Renaissance and allegorically portrays Terra e Mare (Land and Sea).[1] In Cellini's description, the sea was represented by a male figure reclining beside a ship for holding the salt; the earth he "fashioned like a woman" and placed a temple near her to serve as a receptacle for pepper.[2][3] The salt cellar is made of ivory, rolled gold, and vitreous enamel. The gold is not cast in a mould but hammered by hand into its delicate shape. It stands about 26 cm tall. The base is about 33.5 cm wide and features bearings to roll it around.[citation needed]

 

It came into the possession of the Habsburgs as a gift by Charles IX of France to Archduke Ferdinand II of Tyrol, who had acted as a proxy for Charles in his wedding to Elisabeth of Austria.[4] It was originally part of the Habsburg art collection at Castle Ambras, but was transferred to the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna during the 19th century.

Die Insel liegt 10 Kilometer nördlich von Mindanao, der südlichsten Insel der Philippinen. Von der Nordküste Camiguins aus kann man die Silhouette der 54 Kilometer entfernten, nordwestlich liegenden Insel Bohol erkennen.

 

Camiguins weiteste Abmessungen sind 33 und 14 Kilometer. Die Insel umläuft eine durchgehend betonierte 64,1 Kilometer lange Ringstraße, deren Bau von der spanischen Regierung mit 600 Millionen Pesos (2005 umgerechnet rund 10 Millionen Euro) unterstützt wurde.

 

Die Insel bevölkern etwa 77.000 Camigueños auf 229,8 km². Der Inselname leitet sich von dem einheimischen Wort Kamagong ab, mit dem ein Baum bezeichnet wird, der zur Ebenholz-Familie gehört.

It is politically part of the Northern Mindanao Region of the country and formerly a part of Misamis Oriental province.

 

Camiguin is the second-smallest province in the country in both population and land area after Batanes. The provincial capital is Mambajao, which is also the province's largest municipality in both area and population.
