Another 'box' is lifted from her deck on 26th October 2016

The Ebba Maersk is a container ship owned by the Danish shipping company A. P. Moller-Maersk Group. The fifth of the Mærsk E-class, she and her seven sister ships are among the largest container ships ever built. She has a total TEU capacity of 11,000 TEU 14-ton containers by Maersk definition; however, with standard ratings she can hold 14,770 containers. This rating goes by physical space rather than weight. Her beam is 183 feet (56 m), her length 1,302 feet (397 m), and she has a deadweight tonnage of 156,907. (Wikipedia)

Felixstowe plays host to ships even bigger than this. The newest giants have a deadweight tonnage of 200,000, and can carry 20,000 containers. How big can they get?

These photographs were taken from the Orwell Lady, which cruises down the Orwell from Ipswich to Harwich and back regularly. Check their website for times. I thought it was very interesting, and well worth the time and cost.

Ebba von Eckermann is a Swedish textile designer, who had her own fashion label during 1950- 60- and 70s. The production was situated in the small village Ripsa in the county of Sörmland, but the clothes were sold in both Paris and New York. To inspire America retailers, Ebba and the photographer K W Gullers made an album with photographs and a story about the production, the company, and Ripsa.
